My "way too early" draft picks for the Titans

February 27, 2013 12:45 pm

Barring any FA pick ups, trades or other shockers and without taking in consideration any comp picks we may get (we should get a good one for losing Finny to FA, a decent one for Jason Jones and maybe a 7th for Jake Scott if we're lucky) .... this is how I would draft:

1) Chance Warmack OG
2) Jonathan Jenkins DT or Jonathan Cyprien SS
3) Margus Hunt DE or Devin Taylor DE
4) Khaled Holmes C
5)TJ Barnes DT / Robert Lester SS
6) No pick - traded last year
7) Cooper Tayler SS

Biggest focus is upgrading our Defensive and Offensive lines.

from what i have heard we should get an extra 3rd round comp pick for Finny.  I really want to see one of the top OGs picked early and a center picked in the first 4 rounds.  Then focus on the DL ... more DEs to rotate in and a space eating mean mofo**** DT.  We have talent at DT we just need a big guy.  Then a SS to work into the mix - may not start right away but a guy to compete and train up.

Otherwise ...

I like our WRs (with or without Britt),
like our TEs (with or without Cook),
our LBs look great (if McCarthy is healthy),
obviously fine at RB,
fine at QB (got to give Locker one more year before bringing in someone else - if anything bring in a FA vet),
and finally I like our DBs if we can improve our pass rush the DBs will shine.

1. Yeah i like Warmack a lot i hope we get him.
2. I am fine with Crypien here, not sure about jenkins i think he could fall a bit.
3. Would like to see Jenkins here especially if we end up with two 3rd round picks. Otherwise i want us to go Travis Frederick or Brian Schwenke here as well.
4. Im not sure what i want here probably BPA between DE, DT, or LB
5. I think Robert Lester could be a steal here.
6. No pick
7. RB, TE, or CB depending on Jared Cook status plus Branden Barden getting a DUI ( http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/n

dui).
I would like to see someone else be the #2 back behind CJ but i think Javon Ringer will be next season and Harper 3rd  and im not big on harper either. Wouldnt mind seeing a back drafted to push Ringer/Harper

I meant to point out that we are only fine at RB if Ringer and Reynaud are retained otherwise we only have two Rb's on the roster.

I do expect at least one of Ringer/Reynaud to be retained but the Titans could go another direction at this spot.

I think Ringer gets another shot to see if he can stay healthy and be a reliable backup...it would be a travesty if we don't keep Reynaud..

Yeah... Reynaud to me is a must especially considering this is likley the year Mariani gets cut.
Im not sure it seems like more reporting is coming out that the Titans want a brusier behind Johnson.

Terry McCormick - Titans beat writer since 1997. Currently cover the team as co-owner of [http://TitanInsider.com ], as well as being the AFC blogger for National Football Post.
The Titans don't appear interested in re-signing free agent Javon Ringer, who has missed 27 games due to injury over the last four seasons. Perhaps they'll show some interest in speedy draft prospects such as Clemson's Andre Ellington or North Carolina's Giovani Bernard. Chris Johnson has been remarkably durable, but he does have 1,693 touches on his tires since 2008. Feb 21 - 11:11 AM
Not real sure why he thinks they are looking into "speedy draft prospects" if our gm wants a "Change of pace back". I dont think webster is playing down ringer i think he sending a message to the team that he wants to do what he can to win.

Surprised by the no interest in retaining Ringer but not disappointed...

Yeah, a Speedy RB is questionable to me to but TEN does love drafting RBs...it seems like...

If TEN goes after a RB I say Lattimore in 4th 5th round would be a worthy risk.... if he's there

If they let Ringer go im not sure they would draft lattimore. do you think? Swaping an injury prone for a guy coming off ACL? surgery?
Dont get me wrong i like lattimore late too just not sure the Titans want to go that way.

I wouldnt mind going for Jawan Jamison, if we got him though i would like to see him bulk up a bit more though. Otherwise I also like, Zac Stacy, Miguel Maysonet, Denis Johnson

So many questions about this team and the direction they're headed. Bud was willing to roll out the red carpet for Peyton, I wonder if he's still willing to get truly involved in FA and snag a top OL and DL and maybe S. I like Warmack with the first pick unless we can trade back for extra picks. After that, it will depend on what happens in FA. I've also seen some speculation that Lotululei could be available, again, depends on health. He's a big body that could clog up the middle and be an anchor for years to come. We may also be able to get him later should he fall back a bit.

We have to get OL help this year... not doing so means munchak and Matthews are telling us that mediocrity (or worse) is fine.
They also cant fall into the trap of the guys coming back are going to be healthy so that makes it all better.

ENOUGH is ENOUGH!!! get a good starting Center and Guard in here and get some backups that can actually hold the fort down just in case.
I have also re-evaluated Velasco and i believe now he is a good backup capable of sliding in for a few games if need be but i still dont believe he should be a starter.

Never been sold on Velasco. At this point there aren't a lot of guys I trust on that line anymore. Roos and Stewart both played alright but they need to have bounce back years and play well. We need upgrades at every other spot and the good news is if the Titans spend a little money and draft properly it can happen this offseason.
