I don't think they have the cap space for a high priced backup like that. He would see playing time with Ben's history of injuries but they need someone at a lower price.

Cap space is unlikely to be an issue with Matt Cassel. He'll be cut by the Chiefs and will not get signed for starter money.

Many of these reject QBs that get cut due to ineptitude suddenly look "okay" if you can get them for peanuts.  I think Cassell is mediocre, but I also think Cassell is better than Batch and Leftwich.  I just want our QB2, whomever that is, to be better than the creaky slow old man or the slothy slow slinging Lerch we had in 2012.  Ben will miss snaps and games,  it is a given, we need a capable backup moreso than most NFL teams.  The position cannot be ignored or neglected by Colbert any more.

You've got to be kidding me.  That guy couldn't succeed with a better than average and consistent OL, a great running game with a great RB, an perennial Pro-Bowl TE (no departed) and one of the few true #1 caliber type receivers on the outside.

I would say yes Cassell has shown befor ethat inthe right system he can be succesful.  Granted hisbest season are under the Wies/McDanaile offense but his one season under Haley was not terrible.  There are alot of Cassel bashers out there but is should be noted that in his 5 years as a starter (counting his year in NE) he has had 5 diffrent OC's.  How similar any of them have been Ill leave up to smarter peoplebu changing your OC every year is going to effect your QB's play.  If we were looking at Cassel for the long haul I would say no but as a back up fill in for 3-4 games a year I think he would be okay.
