Flavor of the week?

March 1, 2013 9:27 am

Is it Geno, Floyd, Joeckel, Fisher, Werner, Jones or Star? I'm sure within the next two months they all will be at some point the one who the so called experts say the Raiders will pick. It used to be easy to pick who we will be picking. Now, having a new GM and owner, we don't know, yet. I'm sure in 5 years or so we will have an idea of what Reggie's style is. For now, it's a crapshoot.

For me, the next two months is going to be as painful as watching grass grow. All the players draft status will rise and fall. We've seen Moore fall. Star fall. Fisher rise. Geno rise. Jones is all over the place. I think at this point, we know what we know about the players. The rest of the time is going to be like following the Kardashians. Other than my wife, who cares? Why is the draft so freaking long after the combine takes place? Is it so the players have time to injure themselves or get arrested? I would think that the NFL would want the new players to get to know their new team asap.

Nice post Vapor...I agree that it is going to be painful to watch the next couple months. In regards to Geno, it seems the local commentators are leaning toward the Geno "interest" being a smoke screen at this point, which is FINE by me. I have also heard some analysts from local radio say that they thik the Raides are going to trade down. Which I think is encouraging, but who really knows at this point? Like you said, so many guys have fallen off the draft map in the last month, it really is a crapshoot.

I guess the good thing about the players rising and falling is that IF we are able to trade down, it looks as if there will be plenty of talent in the 15-20 range. Whereas 3 weeks ago it seemed like the draft was thin after pick 10. As far as the Geno topic, it would be foolish for the Raider brass not to play the game of smokescreen. It is all part of the job this time of year.

You are right, guys are rising and falling all over the place except one guy that stays right up there - WARMACK (the closest thing to a sure thing).  I am not saying take a guard at #3 - no team will do that.  I am saying trade down and take him several spots lower if possible and pick up a second rounder and more in the process.

I'd throw Floyd in there also. He is holding steady. Any one of those guys is a great building block for us.

I know. I can't tell how many times I've hearda Just ????? Baby saying from some pathetic analyst. We know everyone. We haven't been good since 2002.

CSN Bay Area agrees with the Contra Costa Times that Oakland's purported intrest in West Virginia QB Geno Smith is likely just a "smokescreen."

Reporter Paul Gutierrez believes the Raiders' "most likely and logical move" is to trade down from No. 3, and feigning interest in the draft's top quarterback is one way to create a market. We wouldn't rule out the Raiders taking another stab at finding a franchise quarterback, but Smith would be a reach at No. 3.

Next flavor please

I dont think Geno Smith is a realistic option unless Carson Palmer refuses to give the team CAP relief and gets released. Drafting a project like Geno Smith when you already have an established veteran AND a young developmental QB on the roster is just plain stupid.

After seing how well T.Pryor played in week 17 even though he didnt get ANY first teams reps up until that week makes me think Reggie will wait at least another year before deciding our future at QB. Sure T.Pryor showed sub par footwork and accuracy issues but he also showed the ability to make things happen when plays break down and he did have some great throws in that game when he was able to set his feet.

I would prefer a trade down into the 7-10 range so that we could pick up an extra 2nd and 3rd/4th round pick but if we're stuck at #3, I'd go with either DT S.Floyd or DE B.Werner.
