Woody Johnson has single handidly destroyed this NY Jet franchise and it is unlikely to be competitive for years to come.
The Revis situation alone can turn out to be a huge catastrophe in the making. If the Jets wait and he doesn't recover then what? On the other hand they may be forced to trade Revis before he is fully healthy at a discount simply because other NFL teams know that Revis is a free agent in 2014 with no strings attached to the NY Jets. The other compelling reason is that his price tag may be too rich for some NFL teams to swallow.
The fact that this team is in Cap hell and has so few players under contract is a huge problem one of which can not be corrected overnight and some players may not want to restructure their contracts as they may want to take a chance and test free agent markets when their contracts end with Jets.
Isn't it funny that the moron Tannenbaum is now pontificating from the NFL network pulpit? I find him hilarious as he has proven to me and other Jet fans that he truly is a mindless twit who never had any business to be elevated to GM. Blame Woody for this mess as he is solely to blame for hiring such an inept staff to run his football franchise.
The fact that Idzik took this job doesn't mean that he is capable as Woody has made sure that whoever he hires takes a back seat to him and that not one person in this Jet organization has autonomy from Woody Johnson which is the main reason why this Jet team will languish in mediocrity until we find a bonafide QB.
The following two years are going to be tumultuous as it is unlikely that Rex Ryan will be retained as HC and we will once again be looking for another HC in 2013. The fact that no one was interested in coming to the Jets to fill out their management roster is a telling sign as to how bad this team will perform in 2013. We already know that Ryan lacks the skills to be a complete HC and should have met the same fate that Tannenbaum did when the season ended. I don't care to have a HC who only understands defense and allows his players to run amok in the locker room and who gives rave reviews of his own players who by NFL standards suck.
The fact remains that Sanchez is on our team and without question he is the worst starting QB in the NFL and should have been sent packing after last year and is only here by default because our idiot ex GM saw fit to give the worst rated QB in the NFL a $13+ million dollar gift for persuing Peyton Manning arguably one of the greatest QB's in NFL history.
The Jets have held on to players who without question should have been released last year, the two most notable are Pace and Scott who produced so very little and who never came even remotely close to playing at the level of which they were paid. Another player that comes to mind from last year who should have been cut was Eric Smith. Unfortunately we have been hanging on to players for too long hoping that they would somehow be better the following year only to find that they even got worse. Another one of those players in this category is Dustin Keller who has never come close to playing at the level of which he was drafted. I say let Keller walk and if he does well on another team so be it. We can't hold onto players who can't stay on the field or who are not complete NFL players.
This Jet team will not be able to compete in 2013 mainly because it doesn't have a QB and has far too few players that can make a difference on the offensive side of the ball to be competitive. In addition to the offensive woes we also have an offensive line in transition and one of which has regressed.
There are so many holes on this team to fill and because we are in cap hell we will not be in a position to even draw interest from marginal players who can get a better deal from another NFL team.
I don't think that we can win more than 4 games in 2013 and if this is the case more season ticket holders will flee as fast as they can from this organization knowing that 2014 will more than likely be another year that will be lost as a new HC will be hired and a complete purge will once again take place as it did this past year.
Woody Johnson is so far removed from understanding these implications and doesn't seem to care and is the complete opposite of Robert Kraft owner of the Patriots who was a fan first before becoming a NFL franchise owner. Yes Woody Johnson is not good for NY and doesn't have the same passion as we expect from a franchise that hasn't won a Super Bowl in 44 years. Woody was and still is enamored with the fools gold rush of Rex Ryan and his beleagured two AFC title games both of which we played miserably and lost. It would seem that Woody Johnson is hanging his hat on those 2 AFC Championship losses and believes that to be his major crowing achievement of being a NFL owner. Somebody should tell Woody that finishing second in the NFL means absolutely nothing and that the greatness of NFL franchises is measured in NFL Championships and Super Bowls. Sadly it is unlikely that the NY Jets will have a new owner any time soon and it will be more than likely that we will continue to languish behind other NFL franchises for what this NY Jet team lacks more than anything else is a great QB.
Sadly I am not optimistic about 2013 and beyond for there are just too many what If's for this team to be competitive and the biggest one of course is at the position of QB. The one main ingredient that above average football programs have is an above average QB. I can only hope that we get lucky and find our QB for until we do it is unlikely that we will field a competitive team. Maybe we will find one in this years draft but we should never stop trying to find a QB and until we do we should draft one evey year for it is more likely that we aren't going to win many games because we still don't have a QB that gives us a fighting chance to win on any given NFL Sunday.
Lastly, until we find our QB the blemishes of our owner will stick out like a sore thumb for when you have a great QB the chances of winning another Super Bowl are increased by 100% and somehow the fans that show up at the stadium become more tolerant of their owner and the talent level of players and management is vastly increased as they know that they will have a better chance to improve their credentials and receive the accolodes that come with winning Super Bowls just as Bill Belichik has done in NE.
Yes it all starts with the QB find one that can achieve greatness and you have a much improved chance of winning a Super Bowl and forgetting about how much you hate the owner of your team.
rudyi4, I agree that we need a qb. That is the problem with this team, the owner and head coach thinks Sanchez gives the Jets the best chance to win. With that kind of thinking the Jets are in a tail spin and will not be able to pull out of it and crash and burn. You are right the Jets will have a long and painful season ahead of them next year.
The Jets need a lot of help everywhere and where should you start. I would like for them to get that qb from Ark, but I don't see that happening. They need help on the offense and defense of lines. Linebackers are a must also this team is in trouble for a few years to come. I wish Woody would sell the team to someone who will go get a great coach and let him build this team up from the ground. I know this will take time but that is the only way for the Jets to ever win another super bowl.
