New Coaching Staff

So what does everyone think, will this new staff be able to recognize the areas where the Sooners have talent and use them appropriately? For example, will they finally let Millard handle the ball more than 3 times a game. All the turn over could be a good thing or it could be a disaster. Only time will tell. I am optimistic that this next season will be better than anyone expects provided the injury bug doesn't hit the way it has the last few seasons.

Well i think its a change for the good. I think people like shipp were just along for the ride, I like shipp, i remember the days when he played. He was a great player on some awsome Defenses.

I think the most important thing is that all these guys have a resume' that says, "Good Recruiter"...  Stoops  I think finally realizes how less than great his recruiting has been over the past 3 years.  OU has been a step child to ut, Bama, LSU, etc...  If this is more than just hype, then OU should be getting some quality players in the 4 and 5 star levels.  2014 is not that far away and HS boys are getting the calls now so we should see some gains shortly if our newbies are worth their hype...  With the less than spectacular past recruiting it will take some time to fill in holes with depth.  I don't see impressive results for a year or two and without Bama type depth winning the Big 12 is about all OU can hope for until then...

I understand the recruiting argument even though I don't necessarily agree with it. How many of these 5 star guys ever actually pan out? Go back and look at the draft picks from this years first round in the NFL and see what they were ranked coming out of high school. For example Sam was a 2-3 star recruit and went first in the draft. Sure you will get some no brainers like AD but he could have played NFL right out of high school. For the most part I think you get the guys that fit your system from a body style and speed standpoint then you develop them. What I want to know is can these guys develop talent into the first round draft picks we are used to seeing come out of OU. I actually think Bama's, LSU's and the whole SEC's success has more to do with the training table and steriod use than any talent level differences. My proof of this is when the SEC sends O-line and D-line players to the NFL how many of them dominate the way they did in college? The answer is very few. I think it has to do with the PED testing done in the NFL that is not done in the SEC. Look at the O-line and D-line ranks of the NFL if you don't believe me. The most dominating conference in the NCAA does not have the majority of the starting spots on O-line and D-line. Why is this?

TD, I am not after 5 star recruits, I am after what is important to the team's needs.  As you say, low star players can be a 10 if they are positioned properly with respect of those needs.  I hope the coaching staff gets players that fit those needs, but also get players that are intune with todays college football successful schemes...  I am all for great offenses, but also great defenses.  You can not be the top dog with only one working.  The need is skill players and big bodies, big fast bodies...  I don't care about a players success in the NFL, I care about players making an impact on OU and OSU, (Tulsa too) teams...

Thats ok you take you 1&2 stars, i will take all the 5starts i can get. If you get lots of top talent, and then can't win you have a coaching problem not a player problem.

Can anyone say Lane Kiffin? All the 5 stars and still not winning. The test will be whether Bob's staff can adjust to what is now winning championships.

Kiffin sounds like he has the Mack Brown syndrome. I sure hope Bob's new staff, Brings back some good defense's. OU has been lacking in a good strong dominating Defense for  along time.
