I agree whole heartedly that Kiffen is a bad hire...I am sure he has a vast array of knowledge and experience but his basis for structuring a defense is based on what the NFL was 15 years ago, not today.
I have to smile with the mention of the flex defense a variation of the 4-3 defense which Tom Landry was credited with having developed in the late 50's while the defensive coordiantor of the Giants and with a specific goal of stopping the legendary Jim Brown of the Cleveland Browns.
Landry's, and Ernie Stautner (Landry's defensive coordinator for 25 years), implemenation of the flex in Dallas was perfectly suited because of the presence of arguably the most dominant defensive tackle in football history, Bob Lilly (Alan Paige is in the same catagory).
The Cowboy D-Line personnel today would never lend itself to a flex defense.
