T2 / 4-3 going by the way of the flex

March 11, 2013 10:34 pm

well....again say what u want... but i strongly believe the game has passed Kiffin by....the more i watch him at USC and i watch several of their games it was pretty horrendous....they ran on him and passed on him...if offensive coordinators in the pac 12 can do this what in the world do yall think the NFL will do.....i believe that this defense has already been figured out by o-coordinators in the league...

thats why i believe the following

some of you are old enough to remember the flex defense the boys use to run several decades ago...it was a good gap control defense......right up until the time offensive coordinators started to fiqure out a way to attack it...and attack it they did...compounded by the fact that dallas loss the proper personnel to run that flex defense  along the way.......

kiffin is going to try and bring that T2 / 4-3 here and frankly speaking we dont have the proper personnel to run it...again i believe the game has past Kiffen by......not sure we will get the necessary people in the draft to do it and certainly not in free agency as we have no money to do something of any quality...and to make matters worse i believe we will accomplish very little in re-vamping our oline...i think we will get one guy maybe two maybe.....and that means this defense will again be on the field to much....not to mention for the past four years this defense cannot seem to get turnovers...its not a playmaking defense...why.... because there are no where near enough playmakers on it....i have stated that time and time again as God himself only knows how many years now....

i dont believe we will do very well with the new coaches we took on but the defense in particular might have a little success to start only because some teams we start to play wont be use to us being in a T2 defense so it will be new to them a little and unforunately new to our defensive personnel...but in the end...this isnt looking good at all...and if history is a teacher...which it is...this isnt going to end well...this team is a mess i cant remember seeing it in such a mess since 2000-2002 when we had all that dead cap money and couldnt put decent players on the field...

this season right now still looking scary........i hope we draft properly from top to bottom....we will need every fricking one of them to be good.....

T2 / 4-3 going by the way of the flex

I believe Kiffin is only the figure head.  I think Maranelli is going to be in control alot more then Kiffin.  I think the D will be better in the 4-3.  Question is can they stop that option read they are going to see at least 4 times a year now.

T2 / 4-3 going by the way of the flex

I agree whole heartedly that Kiffen is a bad hire...I am sure he has a vast array of knowledge and experience but his basis for structuring a defense is based on what the NFL was 15 years ago, not today.

I have to smile with the mention of the flex defense a variation of the 4-3 defense which Tom Landry was credited with having developed in the late 50's while the defensive coordiantor of the Giants and with a specific goal of stopping the legendary Jim Brown of the Cleveland Browns.

Landry's, and Ernie Stautner (Landry's defensive coordinator for 25 years),  implemenation of the flex in Dallas was perfectly suited because of the presence of arguably the most dominant defensive tackle in football history, Bob Lilly (Alan Paige is in the same catagory).

The Cowboy D-Line personnel today would never lend itself to a flex defense.

crazy as u know i have always been a proponet of the 4-3 ...i loved the way zimmer ran it here and during those years the defense was a top 5 defense...but kiffins hybred 4-3 scheme has been fiqure out and again i still dont think it will do well again..

i just dont see us overcoming everything that has to be overcome this off season...to many issues to many scheme changes...to many coaching changes...to much jerry jones circus...
