It's Free Agent Season!

March 13, 2013 5:23 pm

What a great day......i loved the Reggie Bush signing.....and im usually the one screaming for defensive help....but he will help out by just being on the field....,do teams keep their safeties deep all the time now to shut down CJ? Swartz said bush will start.....he wont be a 2nd back...if players like CJ, stafford, and burelson were tweeting him the last few months trying to recruit him, then im all for his signing....if our players want him that bad, then so do i.....i dont understand why detroit would sign jones if he wasnt going to play DE. we already got fairley and suh.....unless they plan to put suh at DE...but with jones size i see him playing DE. just because another team didnt play him there doesnt mean he cant......all i know is that if u told me yesterday we would sign houston, quin, bush, and jones today....i would of been happy as hellll.....you never know what other players may get cut or not get paid what they want and maybe come to detroit for a year or 2.......now for the draft i see miliner, jones, or one of the 2 tackles as our choice...im holding out hope we get an older DE for a decent 1-2 yr price like a freeney or abraham just to plug a hole for a few years......give me barret jones or one of the 2nd round safeties in the 2nd and the Lions will be looking pretty decent......now only if we had a coach lol

DHB ran a fast 40, but on the field his speed never showed up. His route running is average at best and his hands are worse than average. I say no in my opinion.

I havent checked out the Bears boards on here......but i live in chicago, and i havent met one fan yet that wasnt happy as **** that the bears signed bushrod and bennett.....the tribune today was almost all bears articles......they are claiming emery as GOD. they needed a WR....he got them marshall.....their line sucked....he got bushrod.....they had worst TE's in the league....they got bennett.....then another bad thing for us bear haters.....if the bears dont do well this year, and by spending this money, they might not resign cutler.....and i dont want them to lose him....cutler will never win. But to say bears fans were mad is just crazy in my eyes....and i see plenty of bears fans daily and they make me sick....when i went and picked my daughter up from school today i was wearing my Lions gear proud. We got Reggie Bush dammmit! Lol but anyways, yeah, i didnt want the bears to upgrade their line that well...now they will probably draft another lineman since they got their TE. one thing is for sure, the NFC north is gonna stay tough and competitive....i just think lions are still a year or 2 away..but we will see....footballs the easiest sport to turn a team around.

Heyward Bey is fast....and that's it. His best year was 2011 where he had 64-Rec 975-Yds and 4-TDs.  2012 he took a step back.  If the Lions can get him for cheap then I wouldn't mind him competing for a roster spot.

I'm pretty sure Corey Williams will be back. C Will did say he wanted to stay with the Lions and he is willing to to take a paycut.

I have no clue where all the money is coming from, but I LOVE what the Lions did today.  As much as I was against the Bush signing, it had more to do with the fact that I thought it would cost us re-signing Houston or Delmas.  They not only signed Bush, but re-signed Houston AND signed one of the best cover safeties in the NFL.

I have no idea how good our DE's will be, but Jones is a big guy at 6'5" 275 and ran a 4.7, so he should do well lining up outside in the Wide 9.  I think he may be used occassionally on the inside, but I think with Detroit, he will be at DE.

I can say, after all the signings they made today -- I have been pushing for them to draft Milliner, but I think their best bet is to get the best DE in the draft with their #5 pick.  I wouldn't be upset with either pick right now though, Milliner or a DE.  Either one would make us a heck of a lot better defensively.

The part about all the signings that shocked me is -- They said the money used for the signings was from Suh restructuring his deal.  They also were talking about, if the Lions can get a long term extension done with Stafford, it would free up even more money.  So the Lions may not be done.

I thought the Lions were going to be sitting on the side waiting for the bargains, but Suh's restructuring must have opened up alot of money for the team to use.  I think that is huge step in the right direction in the maturity of Suh and maybe he is trying to become more of a leader on this team.

Whatever reason he restructured -- I applaud him and applaud Mayhew for getting those deals done with Quin and Bush before they had a chance to look elsewhere.

Tim Twentyman tweet this,

"He's open to it. He wants to be there when they win the Super Bowl."

If the Lions can extend Stafford then they could get another  10  million.

Suit yourself.  I'm telling you what he is; you're dreaming of what you wish he was.  If you start him at DE, you have a hole at DE
Whatever you say, Mr. Realist....

When this happened last night my buddy(a Raiders fan) texted me to tell me and basically breathed a big sigh of relief.  Dude was horrible.  And with all the problems the Raiders have right now, to be relieved he's gone is saying it all.

If those numbers are real. We got a steal for both of those players. What does everyone think of our front office now?

It really seems like Suh made most of this possible.  I am shocked, I really didnt think he would do it.

but I LOVE what the Lions did today.
Not to sound like a dick, but I am shocked you actually wrote this.  I was waiting to for you to come online today and shit**** on these moves.  My apologies.

With our current needs (yes i know mayhew and bpa) I would think our first 2 picks are going to be a combo of  DE, OLB, S, OG, WR.  If between FA and the draft we put even solid players at those 5 spots, and injuries dont decimate us, I think the Lions are in store for a hell of a season.  Aside from DE, OL, and LB (as of right now) each of our units is improved.  Even though I cant currently say OL and LB are not better, I dont know that they are worse.  DE is really the only spot I feel like we are not currently at least equal to where we were last year.  Even S, where I think an upgrade would still be great, of Quin and Speivey is at least equal to Delmas and Speivey.

And of course we can always use depth.

The Lions probably still need one more corner.  Dominque Rogers Cromartie, Cary Williams and Antonine Cason are still out there.  I hope the Lions give DRC a look.  I don't think he'll be too expensive.  He's a guy that's best suited playing on the outside.

One of these guys and a safety and I think they Lions should be done in free agency. We need to see what Travis Lewis and Tahir Whitehead bring to the OLB table. And i say we let Willie Young/Jason Jones take over the DE positions. We have ronell Lewis there too. I read somewhere that the Play of Suh and Fairley made avril look good. Any elite DE would have gotten more sacks. So Young/Jones/Lewis shouldn't be too bad there. If all this happens, I still say draft Eric Fisher with that 5th pick and move reiff to RT. That would be my prime off season
