Reports say that we just signed former Bucs OT Jeremy Trueblood, contract details not disclosed yet.

Kind of scratching my head at this one to be honest, he doesn't seem to be a really good fit for our ZBS, he's more of a down-hill mauler than anything.  Not really that "finese" OL that we typically go for...he is a big dude though, 6'8" 320lbs.

i don't know the terms of the deal, but i don't think i like this.  Tyler Polumbus was serviceable this year which sadly is a big upgrade over where we have been at the offensive line position.

i would have rather brought him back, as i have an erie feeling that the Redskins are hoping one of 2 hurt guys will be healthy enough to man the RT spot.  sounds familiar right?

I would much rather they had taken the money used on Trueblood and Pashos and used it on Winston. We're right back where we were last year with medicre talent at the RT spot. :(

Oh well, maybe Tom Compton, the RT we drafted last year steps up. ;/

The only thing I can think of is that we are trying to bring in veterans to push Tom Compton in camp.  It's possible that they see a lot of potential in Compton and giving him some stiff competition may push him to work harder??  Who knows though, not a fan of are RT situation currently.

Polumbus, Compton, Trueblood & Pashos, pretty crappy if you ask me.

I was reading the comments about Trueblood on Profootballtalk.com and the Bucs fans were saying this guy gets flagged for holding and grabbing facemasks all game and every game! I`m not sure I like this move. The Pashos move was even more ridiculous!!!!!

yes...did you?

the Redskins lead the league in rushing at 169.3 yards per game
the redskins were 2nd in the league in rushing TDs with 22
the redskins were tied for 12th on sacks allowed with 33
the redskins were 5th in total yards
the redskins were 4th in scoring

RD,
I am the last person in the world who will defend the shannhan's but they were able to game plan and sub-par talentwise line into a productive unit.
would i rather have Eric Winston at RT?  of course
but, i would rather get serviceable performance on the cheap from the oline and try to improve our secondary and defense with our limited free agent dollars.

i would just like to point out how i was able to respond to you in a nice rational tone

wolf,
you are either a moron or just incredibly unrealistic.

I haven't seen the trueblood or pashos contract, but i am willing to bet that the 2013 salaries of Jeremey true blood + Tony Pashos + Tyler Polumbus + Tom Compton (isn't he the runner up on AGT?) < Eric Winston

Sampson, you're such a moron. I'm talking about the money they used on their contracts for THIS YEAR!! If I had known I needed to spell that out for you, I would have. Geez what an idiot!

They could have offered Winston some kind of contract with a small salary this year and much bigger salaries next year and beyond. Yes, the signing bonus would have been a factor, but if they don't waste money on those 2 players, it would given them a better shot at Winston. Sure, the money those 2 players got wasn't much, but hell, I would rather they had used all the money from Pashos, Trueblood, and everyone else they've signed and used it on Winston. Especially since they have yet to sign a freaking DB.

Unfortunately, they don't seem to really care whether they line is any good or not or whether RGIII has a chance to actually stand in a pocket and pass the ball. And before you say it, yes they game planned to help the OL, but that game plan had RGIII running way to freaking much. So I'd rather they use our FA money on the best RT they can afford, by not giving money to trash.

Anyway, as per usual, it's a waste of time to try to talk to you because you're too stupid to understand anything even when it's laid out for you.

Yes moron, I understood and again you are an idiot. Salaries in the NFL aren't guaranteed so why would Eric Winston play for the minimum this year hoping he actually sees year 2 of his contract versus getting a $7MM+ signing bonus plus the minimum salary

Of course I did, and I singled him out quite a bit and his play was pretty atrocious in both the run game and passing game.  Let's face it the rushing stats were padded because of Griffin's scrambling ability not our OL's blocking.  Polumbus was to blame the majority of the time, he got pushed back on running plays and would get absolutely manhandled on passing downs.

Of course salaries are guaranteed in the NFL Sampson. At least some of it is in a lot of the bigger contracts. Where the hell have you been besides in your little romper room>? You hear it all the time about how this portion of the contract is guaranteed when you hear that someone has signed with a new team or signed a new contract with their old team. I just saw that Wes Welkers entire $12 million contract is guaranteed.

So we could have saved the money on Pashos and Trueblood, and offered Winston something with the 2nd and 3rd year contracts guaranteed. That way, we would have had a small cap number this year with the contract bumping up in year 2 and 3.

That makes a hell of a lot more sense then signing crap and hoping they work out.

Hey RD, on one hand, stupid was right in that Tyler Polumbus was serviceable but only because he was all we had there. He did his job, he just didn't do it very well. He sucks and the guys we signed won't be much better. But it appears that unfortunately, the Redskins brain trust think along the lines of what dummy has to say, aka scheme to help the line instead of getting better players. So we will just have to suck it up and hope one of the guys they have find their inner pro bowler. Otherwise, RGIII will be running for his life again this year. :(

Lol, how can you say he did his job but sucked at it? lol.  So essentially he didn't do crap.  If Grossman were back there all last season we would have won 5-6 games with Polumbust at RT, probably would have led the league in sacks against.

Winston something with the 2nd and 3rd year contracts guaranteed.
i actually suggested this a couple of days ago, i just don't know if you can give him a 2013 salary of $1MM and then guarantee a 2012 salary of $8MM

So we could have saved the money on Pashos and Trueblood
what is their 2013 salary and how much of it is guaranteed?

i imagine its close to the minimum, so you wouldn't save any money because you still need to have a full roster

Otherwise, RGIII will be running for his life again this year.
what games exactly was RG3 running for his life?

aka scheme to help the line instead of getting better players
yes this is actually the way to build winning teams.  why is it that every team in the league isn't busting down the Jets door about derrel revis?  the guys is consider the best CB in the league why doesn't everyone want him?
its simple you have to pay him too much and you can use ypou scheme to maximize players ability so you don't need the best players at every position

3 years ago namdi asmough was the bets corner on the planet...then he went to the Eagles he was a bad scheme fit and now he is out on the street

teams need to use scheme to hide weaknesses

and again wolf, your solution for every position is to go out and sign the highest paid guy...how has that worked for any team in the NFL?
you guys crush daniel snyder and vinnie cerratto for doing that but thats what you want to do

He did his job, he just didn't do it very well
again how didn't he do his job well?
we lead the league in rushing we were in the middle of the pack in sacks allowed

you want to give all the credit to RG3?  good i am fine with that.  so, again with the QB we had stick with polumbus and use the FA dollars to fix the area that needs the most attention

again for the 100th time, i agree we need to upgrade our OL, but to me its like saying boy my house could use a new coat of paint, so i will ignore the termite damage and repaint the house

use the limited resources to fix the biggest issues and then work your way down

Lol, how can you say he did his job but sucked at it? lol.

Because his job as the RT was to A) block people on running plays and B) block people on passing plays. He did that, he just didn't do it very well. So technically, he did his job. He just sucks at it. LMAO

you either do it or you don't do it.
its pass fail on each indvidual play if he blocks his guy he passes if he doesn't he fails

if he blocks his guy but not in a manner that asthetically pleasing to you he still blocked his guy and passes

again he isn't the best RT in the league, the reality is we have no cap room and no #1 pick (and I am not HOF bemoaning the RG3 trade just stating a fact)

so if you look at things realistically the 2nd round pick should be an immediate starter
the 3rd round pick should challenge and hopefully win the starting job at some point in the year
FA wise we have no cap room and we need to get creative whether that is structuring a contract to include a low salary in 2013 and a high guaranteed salary in 2014 or if its taking fliers on low risk high reward guys

with all that said how do you want to spend the limited resources?  to me this draft should be all in on fixing the defense.
Free agency you can do low risk high reward at any position, i just wouldn't want to move away from a known commodity (Tyler Polumbus) hoping to get lucky on someone else

Trueblood slammed the bucs fans on his way out the door ... the article is out there, search for it ... maybe that is part of the reason some of the bucs fans are responding the way they were .... but, it also does soom as if they aren't to worried about their o-line by him leaving.   I know he did start for a while, was a second round pick, lost his starting job real early last year, and never got it back.
Was he injured or did he lose the job due to an injury?

At the least it beats waiting for Brown to finish Yoga classes for another year.
