FIRE TT NOW!!!!!!

March 14, 2013 4:59 pm

I have had it with this *** clown, he is nothing but a tight pocketed retard who doesn't know how to run a ******* football team. Everyone else in the confrence is getting better while he just stands their with his thumb up his ***. Jackson would have been a great pickup but NOOOO. Teddy boy will instead probably draft a HB in the 6th round no one has ever heard of, and call it a day. My God I could do a better job of running this team than him. Time to end the TT experiment, and promote Eliot Wolf to GM. Last FA we signed was what Charles Woodson? That worked out pretty well. TT's reluctance to dabble in free agency is unreasonable.

FIRE TT NOW!!!!!!

March 14, 2013 5:07 pm

Wait...how does a guy who does not know how to win a football team...run one that is a contender every year and already won a Super Bowl?

I guarantee you would ruin this team inside of 2 seasons.

Ahh...Elliot Wolf will move up in the organization for sure...but you like him because of?  Last name right?
Remind me how many Super Bowls the great Ron Wolf won as GM?  Same as Ted Thompson right?

Woodson, Picket, Benson, and could easily go on with guys that may not be high priced big names that get people excited...but the type that good football teams are built out of.

FIRE TT NOW!!!!!!

March 14, 2013 5:10 pm

I think fire is a bit premature...lol. I will give you this, on paper, the Bears have gotten better, the Lions have gotten better, the Vikings are in a position to leverage their Harvin draft picks to get better, the Niners have gotten better, the Seahawks have gotten better and the Falcons have upgraded their rb position. Again, this is all on paper. Green Bay is sans Woodson, Jennings, Walden and so far has not done anything to upgrade and now arguably the top portion of the @ 100 FA's have beeen signed
.
At this point no one should be surprised that TT hasn't made a 'splash'. He rarely if ever does. Have to see how the draft plays out, and the season for that matter. If the season is a failure based on talent differential or lack of depth, then yes, some serious questions should be asked.

Yeah.....let's fire a super bowl winning GM for not backing up the Brinks truck and off loading millions into the bank account of a 30+ year old running back whose tires have almost no trad left on them.

Sheesh. Overreact much?

I was venting, but it still does not give him an excuse for not signing any FA's year in and year out, that would better the team. A name like Glover Qunn comes to mind, he would have been a perfect fit, but nope....Do I think we should fire him? Probably not, but I'm still pissed off.

I get the frustration, but the bottom line is that not only do ARod, Clay and Raji need new contracts, but James Jones and Burnett come up at the same time as Raji and Clay, and the next year, Bulaga, Cobb, Jordy and Bishop are up.

That's a lot of "core" players coming up in the next couple of seasons. How many of those guys are you willing to lose to get some UFA's this year?

not quite true southbeach 25. The pack is 20 mil under the cap and williams, hawk, and pickett can clear 20 mil more after this year. The pack has money. That's why they offered jennings 9 mil this year and why they went after canty and jackson. Tt is just a tight wad. Also a lot of those guys you mentioned will be paid after 2 years and will not have huge increases. They have nothing to do with paying a player for 2 years right now.

As I said in another thread, this has been a great regular season team. But when playing playoff caliber teams in the post season (or regular season for that matter) they've looked way overmatched. 15-1 or 12-4, or 13-3 doesn't get the Lombardi Trophy. We need a player or 2 to get us there. I think Jackson would have been one of those pieces. Peyton Hillis??? Really???

We don't know what they offered Canty or Jackson...if anything at all.  Canty I read failed his physical.

And TT is a tightwad when it comes to first wave of free agency...as he should be if people would historically look at the success of these high priced free agents.
But he will pay top dollar to the core guys and will typically spend up near the cap (saving some for injury emergencies and locking up contracts)

Jackson would of been nice, but we'll see what the contract details are.  I'd be fine with Turner.  We just need a 3 and 1 beast to get a first down.

I'd rather spend the money on a o line guy or LB.

How much of the 18M they are under do you think new deals for both ARod and Clay would eat up? Don't forget, they also have draft picks to sign out of that money, so it is probably closer to 13M or so.

and why they went after canty and jackson
It's pretty well known now that the Packers didn't offer Canty a thing because they thought he would fail their physical. As far as Jackson, you have no clue what they offered him.

Also a lot of those guys you mentioned will be paid after 2 years and will not have huge increases.
Really? Jordy's average salary comes out to just over 3.4M per. James Jones at 3.2M per. Cobb is on his rookie deal at 800K per. All three of those guys are going to get at least twice what they are making now, Cobb way more than that. Jones contract runs through 2014 and Cobb and Nelson through 2015. Assuming you would want to get something done in order to avoid either franchising them or letting them hit FA, you would want to do something with all three over the next year to year and a half.

They have nothing to do with paying a player for 2 years right now.
Yeah, it actually does.

They don't have to pay Rodgers or matthews until after 2013. They were willing to spend on canty and jackson, that's the point. They are still willing to give jennings 9 mil, that's the point. They obviously have money.
As far as nelson and jones. It' s not certain they will get twice as much. They each had 1 great season. After this season pickett and his 8 mil will expire. I doubt they will pay williams 8 mil after this year along with hawk at 6 mil. Money isn't as tight as it seems. I would rather have a D lineman or RB for what they're paying jennings.
People don't like to hear about offering $ to a 30 yr WR while skimping on neccesities. That' s why people are mad. Unless the pack is bluffing and upping his price, which I doubt

How much of the 18M they are under do you think new deals for both ARod and Clay would eat up?
$18 mil is just the starting point. If they cut others to clear cap space now (including Finley) and after next season (including Hawk), they could have a lot more to work with for Rodgers and CMIII extensions, and others into the following offseason. The cap will also rise by at least a couple mil each year.

Rodgers $10.5 mil base in 2014 plus bonuses has already been figured into the cap allocation. How much more will he get in his extension? Assume an annual hit of $23 mil per season (including a big signing bonus and guaranteed loot). That's about $13 mil added against the cap on top of his current base.Capologist will get creative on when his compensation hits the cap the hardest.

CMIII is at $3.73 mil next season, plus whatever incentives he can still get from the $3.25 mil specified in the current contract. He will get bumped to about $10 mil per season starting in 2014.

Rajii is a question mark. He has not dominated recently, yet could get some big interest in free agency if not tagged.

Finley's departure could free up $8.75 mil of cap space. That would be money well saved. Cobb and Nelson will not be addressed until after 2014 heading into their final contract year, knowing the franchise tag is available if they want to use it. Jones will not get a huge bump unless he puts up great numbers, and ther Packers may bring in more young talent to avoid having too much $ tied up in the WR corps. One of the 3 (Cobb, Nelson, Jones) could possibly be traded while under team control for draft picks. SOme of the pricier DBs could also be cut if they don't produce next season.

It's a Rubik's cube of possibilities. Let's hope TT can keep spinning the sides properly and put the Packers in poaition to contend for titles for many more years. They have probably 5 peak years of Rodgers at the trigger, so TT should focus on getting/keeping the team in peak condition during that time, even if it means a complete rebuilding period after Rodgers is gone. To me, that means at least one blockbuster acquisition (like the Reggie White deal) that solildifies both sides of the ball for a few seasons. Imagine what the Packers could have done with someone like Julius Peppers or Jason Pierre Paul opposite Clay Matthews the past few seasons.

I'd rather win at least 1 more title under Rodgers in the next 3-4 years and then languish with a middling record for a few seasons, as opposed to making the playoffs and get bounced before the Super Bowl for each of the next 7 seasons.
