Proof of friction between Rodgers and Jennings?

March 18, 2013 9:39 am

Greg Jennings is now a Viking, and it sucks.  However, he's a good guy, and I'm happy that he got a second big pay day.  He took a clearly better deal financially, so you can't fault the guy.  However, the thing I noticed is that Aaron Rodgers never campaigned for the Packers to bring him back.  The reason this is so interesting is because he was so vocal when James Jones was a free agent about wanting him back and seemed exasperated with the Packers that they wouldn't just give him a long term deal.  Rodgers never made a peep about Jennings.  I wonder if the two had a strained/non-existent/contentious relationship, and Jennings was looking for a reason to leave.  Maybe there is something to the rumors that Rodgers receivers don't like him.  Or maybe Jennings didn't like to have to share the ball so much with Rodgers being such a great distributor.  Either way, the silence seemed to speak volumes to me in this case.

rodgers and matthews have mega contracts coming up so there is a conflict of interest. Meanwhile jennings wanted the highest contract available after seeing lesser wrs get big deals the past few years. Jones didn't have to get a huge contract to stay so it didn't take much convincing.
As far as friction. There probably is some bc you had 4 good recievers who all want the ball + finley. jones, jennings, nelson, cobb, and fin have all had big seasons. It's no suprise they want the ball. Not a serious issue, just the nature.

Please don't include Finley in any discission about GOOD receivers...He's not EVER in a conversation of that ilk!

Packers are so farkin stacked at WR its not even funny. They really don't need Jennings. I would have liked them to keep him, but really why throw money at him when you got jones cobb nelson ect.

The Packers need an O-line or soon they'll need a QB...Of the 3 you mention Jennings is the better of them all...He's a better route runner and pass catcher than Jones. Nelson is similar to Jennings, but he was injured a bunch last year too! Cobb is faster, but he's more of a slot reciver...Keep dropping back 50 times and continue to get Rodgers sacked and a WR will be the  least of your problems...

Yea, the Packers have been moving toward an all wide receiver offence for a few years now.  Matt Millen tried the same thing in Detroit.

Yea, you heard him campaign for Woodson among others to return. Weird he didn't do the same for Jennings.

Never said he wasn't. They don't need him. Btw last i checked.... Jones led NFL in recieving Tds.

Considering WR IS NOT a problem, thanks for the advice.

God the Viqueens steal another Packer and the fourm becomes crawling with them again.

dan your grandpa was a semen while mine was a sargeant in the Bulge. Yours is definitly the receiver. Go ahead and take greg for 9 mil a year. He's going from the nfc's best qb to the one of the worst. Just ahead of AZs. Good luck with that.

No.  Proof that, like most FA's, there is little sense of loyalty when a fatter paycheck presents itself.  I like how now Jennings says Favre advised him.  No need to like Greg, you were advised by your friend Benjamin Franklin numerous times over.  It's all good, your hardly the first.

Jennings is getting older, he has been injured and he has seen Jordy Nelson become Rodgers primary target.

Jennings was probably lowballed, not Urlacher lowballed but close, and he knew it was time to move on. The Packers still have Nelson, Jones, Cobb, and Finley. Jennings probably has 3-4 more productive years and this is a case that both parties are better off seperated.
