Ladies & Gents...Your Big 12 POY!!

March 21, 2013 8:29 pm

That was him Laughing in full exposure...can't shoot, can't dribble...can't pass...plays the lanes fine on D...but a sham of a showing from Marcus Smart...exposed for being young and inexperienced and holes all over his game.

This is not to pikk a fight with any of my fellow KU posters (honest)....but I'm just gonna state the obvious and say his hype machine got him the Big 12 POY when there were at least 3 other more deserving players out there.

Way to rep the league OK St....ya Bums!

Marcus Smart won Big 12 POY in large part because of the game he had at Kansas.

Ladies & Gents...Your Big 12 POY!!

Well one game doesn't make a season...Smart wasn't as good as his game at AFH might lead one to believe and he's not as bad as his game today.

But to be honest, I was thinking about your thread on Smart as the conf POY when I was watching the Oregon / OSU game today!  I was hoping that the hicks from Stoolwater would pull that one out but also thinking 'how can this guy be the POY in one of the best conferences in D1?'

I completely agree.  AFH is the biggest stage in the conf and the conf title goes through Lawrence by way of AFH.  A big game in AFH is worth at least 3 or 4 big games on any other courts in conf.  And if your big game in AFH helps your team come away with a rare W in AFH, the media's and coaches' opinion of you skyrockets.

Ladies & Gents...Your Big 12 POY!!

Did anyone else seem to think though that maybe Smart could be wearing down a little bit. He has seemed to not be himself the last few weeks and is looking more like a Frosh. I read somewhere else someone agreed with me that maybe he is starting to become tired because they rely on him so much and he is starting to play like a freshman more because he has become tired and maybe freshman legs got to him? Just a thought.

I can get on board the AFH "National Stage" thing...like Heisman candidates needing to step up in big moments or have one "defining" moment to solidify their candidacy.

I would still say that Markel Brown destroyed us just as crucially as Smart in the AFH game, but the wheels were already in motion for Smart to ascend to perceived greatness I suppose.

As far as the legs/hit the wall theory...ehh...I can understand it...BUT...the kid did have an entire week off from playing games when he came into the NCAA Tourney.  This can be used to counter I'm sure and folks could say he was rusty, but whatever...just wanted to voice my perspective that he is a bit less than what he has been made out to be, I'm not sold on the kid yet...but I'm just one.

Now to make a prophet out of me... at the behest of the season, I DID say that if a Jayhawk didn't win POY then it was going to come out of OKST, I even had him in mind when I said it (Lebryant Nash as well), but I thought his dominance should have been more apparent.
