boston, how does it hurt anyone.  Did you not learn how to multiply percentages when you were in elementry school.  10% of 1000 = 100,  10% of 1 million = 100 thousand. 

I don't agree with people making babies to get more money.  I raised my family on a military enlisted salary that never exceed 30K a year before I retired.  I have no problems with those that make more than me.  If all men are created equal then all men should be taxed the same rate.  The same rate doesn't mean they pay the same amount or don't you understand that.  And the 25K deduction is a bigger deduction than one gets right now, but it is the same for everyone,  and doesn't depend on welfare babies to increase ones income. 

But then you just don't seem to grasp that concept.  And you cannot prove that it will hurt the lower income in any stretch of the imagination, unless you are one of those who don't pay taxes and would have to pay a little bit to help out the country. 

Tim Tebow has been pretty swole for a while, pretty good speed, pretty athletic, very strong...naaaaahhh, could'nt possible be...not Timmy....but Gas says they ALL DO, WITHOUT EXCEPTION...and here I was thinking Timmy was just drinking his milk and reading scripture...lol

Teabow has nothing.  There is a very large segment that wants him to be something, but he just isn't it. 

Teabow could very well be a total fraud.  I have doubts because a lot of people have dug looking, but it would not surpise me in the least to find out he is Full of it.

My belief, yes.  Too much money, too much competition, too much pressure.  And way too easy to obtain.

Did you have health insurance and military housing?  Add that to your benefits.  Did you use a military shop to buy cheaper products?  Add that to your benefits.  Did you not pay taxes on your military pay?  Add that to your benefits.  Did you get a pension at an early age?  Add that to your benefits.

Boston, by taking away the deduction. CAN YOU NOT READ, THERE WILL BE NO MORE DEDUCTIONS OTHER THAN THE 25K.  DO YOU REALLY THINK OBAMA IS GOING TO TAKE MONEY OUT OF HIS POCKET BY RASING TAXES, IF YOU DO THEN YOU ARE ONE NIAVE INDIVIDUAL. 

There are so many tax deductions, they can raise taxes all they want and the rich will not pay more, it's all smoke and mirror.  Look at how your Democrate leaders raised hell when the Republicans talked about capping deduction,  That didn't fly and the President stated he would veto any such legislation.  If the Democrates really wanted to hurt the rich they would hurt themselves.  Look at how many in congress are rich individuals.  They will not LET ME REPEAT THAT, THEY WILL NOT TAKE MONEY OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKETS.

As for welfare babies, that is what they do make babies to get more money from the Government.  Cap the family deductions to 2 children and see who has family values.

As for the Military, and their so called good deals at the commisary.  Why is it if it is such a good deal, our military members in uniform who are E-5 and below with 2 kids qualify for Food Stamps?  Why does our Commassary take food stamps if we get such a good deal?  Why does the cost in AAFEES for a pair of jeans cost 3 times as much as a pair of jeans in Wal-Mart. 

OBTW, thinking our food is tax free at the commissary is a joke too.  We get charged a 6% surcharge on all the food we purchase.  The benefits have been eroded because of bleeding hearts who don't think those who volunteer for their country should be paid much or get any other benefits.  Family memebers now have to go downtown to doctors who don't want their insurance because it doesn't pay for their medical.  And the so called Medical for life I was promised when I joined is gone to the wayside.  No there is no free lunch in the military and the compensation for those who serve their country doesn't cover anywhere near as much as they deserve. 

You think housing is so great.  Check up on most of the bases that are closing.  I know for a fact that When George AFB in Victorville closed the Military tried to give the town of Victorville CA the base housing for the homeless and Victorville stated the housing wasn't fit for the homeless.  It was ok for the military members to live in but they wanted a billion dollars to fix up the housing to make it livable for the homeless.  That is how good your base housing is.

It boils down to overall tax burden, as a percentage of earned income.

A flat tax across the country would treat everyone equal.  If you had to pay say 10% of your earnings and the same thing for Bill Gates then what would it matter.  10% of of 50K = 5K but 10% of 1 billion would be 100 million now wouldn't that be a great trade off? 

A flat tax would only treat everyone equally if the Federal Income Tax exists in a vacuum.  It does not.  It exists in conjuction with numerous other taxes - specifically let's just look at Social Security taxes.

Social Security is taxed on the first $114k of earnings (roughly, the exact figure is $113,700), at 6.2%.  So let's say your flat tax of 10% gets put in place.  One taxpayer has a taxable income of exactly $50k, and the other exactly $500k.  Just for the sake of simplicity.

Person making $50k has 100% of their salary taxed for social security.  That means 6.2% of their income was taken for SS. 
Person making $500k has only 22.74% (that $113,700) of their income taxed at 6.2%.  Meaning their overall SS tax burden is actually only 1.41% (I rounded that up, btw).

So that's a difference of a 6.2% tax and a 1.41% tax - and this number gets smaller the more you earn.  Sure, the person making more is paying more in whole dollars, but that's not how we determine tax burden - that's a world of percentages.

So if we have a flat 10% tax, and add in SS, the person making $50k is paying 16.2%, and the person making $500k is paying 11.41%. 

Can you explain to me how that is equal?  Because it looks like a discrepancy of roughly 4.8% to me, when the federal income tax is actually put in context.

The other big one is sales tax.  The more money you make, the more you are able to save - right?  That's pretty basic.  Doesn't mean people will save it, but they have more opportunity.

So let's say we have a person spending - and I'm just pulling these out of my ass - 80% of their income vs a person spending 50% of their income.  The person spending less, as a percentage, pays sales tax on a lesser portion of their income.

Once we start getting down into the lower tax brackets, many people are spending 100% of their available income (and for many, they are spending even more).  Once we start getting down towards the poverty line, these expenditures aren't even for extraneous crap, they are almost all for basics like food, shelter, clothes, etc.  Yes, sure, you can find plenty of examples of people that spend their small incomes on crap, no doubt - but they are not the rule.

I'll admit I like that more than most of the example flat taxes I've heard, but I'm not sure that's feasible.  Just saying, the median household income in the US is aroudn $45k, usually split across two incomes.  It could very well be that nearly 50% of Americans still wouldn't pay income taxes, lol.  Maybe even more.
