AM GOLD!

July 20, 2008 7:11 pm

This thread is dedicated to RockFlorida, Mjollnir, Skydog and the rest of the regulars on the "song threads"  Hopefully, they will join in on this thread and have fun too.

Remember the days of the Transistor Radios, your Favorite AM Radio station and the songs you listened too.  There was Rock and Roll, Bubble Gum, Soul, and Cross over country.  There was American Top 40 with Casey Kasem every Sunday Morning where you could find out where your favorite song on playing on the radio was at on the charts.  And Usually on New Years Day Casey would have an all day show counting down the 100 songs of the year.

So this thread is again a lyrics thread, give the lyrics of a song from 1965 to 1984 then someone will name the song, and artist , the only catch on this thread is that the song had to be a top 100 hit, so no "B" songs or album cuts. After you have guessed the song and artist you must start list the lyrics of another song.  Also, since these are top 100 songs you should limit the lines of the song to 2 lines , hey we have to have some type of challenge don't we?

One last note: show everyone your favorite AM radio station.  The one you use to listen to all the time.  If you recognize someone else let them know.  You won't believe how many people you can find that will say they use to listen to that station.  I know when I was in the military I found people from Illionis who use to listen to my home town station.  It was KAAY 1090.  Most listened at night from 11:00 PM to 2:00 AM, Clyde Clifford and "Beaker Street".

If you're driving into town
With a dark cloud above you
Dial in the number
Who's bound to love you
YOU TURN ME ON, I'M A RADIO - JONI MITCHELL   I'm very flattered RHINO, but I'm just not that kind of fellow. Even if you are dashing at 6'4" in your postman's uniform. UGHHH!!!   I'm getting two images in my head now, either the VILLAGE PEOPLE or CLIFF CLAVEN!!!!

NEXT LYRICS:  I'm a little surprised that this one hasn't been used for this theme yet.

I was born in the wagon of a travellin' show
My mama used to dance for the money they'd throw
Papa would do whatever he could
Preach a little gospel, sell a couple bottles of Doctor Good

I gotta pick you guys brains. Several years ago, I seem to recall a website known as Tapestry or something like that. It was Bristish and it listed every British rock group known to man, specializing in the 60s and early 70s. It listed group members, discographies of some, I mean, really obscure bands. I think it is based on a book, a rock encyclopedia type format.
I also recall an American version of that website, but don;t remember the name?
Does this sound familiar to any of you? I'm gonna still keep searching.

NEXT LYRICS: While I have their first two releases, I don't have this album, their third and the first one where they were in control of the music.

I feel the moments hurry on
It was today, it's died away,
And now it is forever gone.

And I will drink my coffee slow
And I will watch my shadow grow
And disappear in firelight
And sleep alone again tonight.

Early Mornings Blues and Greens - Monkees. I had their first four albums, and wore them down pretty good.

But lookin' at them just gives me the blues
'Cause how ya gonna make some time
When all you got is one thin dime

I am sad to say that I do not own any Monkees albums.
I have some of their hits on some of those compilation discs but never indulged in their own stuff.
Should I partake?

I'm tellin' ya. I think we are all melding into one giant mutant music lover!
Pretty scary!

OK, next lyrics:

You're on your ear, the ocean's near
The light has started to fade
Your high is timed, you found the climb (climb)
It's hard to focus on more than what's in front of you(you)
