That doesn't make the heckler any less of a punk. It's really easy to yell garbage at someone and then hide behind the "Don't touch fans!! Waaaaah!!!" defense.

The heckler not only deserved what he got, he should have been beaten mercilessly with bats. I have no pity for him. Nobody deserves to take crap from some loser who probably makes $4.50 an hour and then goes home to a broken home and ugly children. Here's hoping that this makes ballpark tough guys a little less likely to spew their drunken filth in full view of everyone.

Although I don't agree with what JC did...I don't think a suspension for the remainder of the season is warranted.  The two incidents are two entirely different things that you cannot string together.  JC served his suspension for the PED allegations and should now be issued a suspension that is appropriate for this incident.  The Phillies were mired in a slump and the comments made directly to JC were inappropriate.  I just wish JC exercised a little more patience in the situation and held his cool.  He will go through the legal process and will most likely be put on probation in a criminal case against him.  I am not sure if there is a standard suspension that MLB has for such cases...but Romero should be treated no different than anyone else.

As far as the Phillies...this is the last thing that they needed.  To lose another arm in the bullpen will hurt a lot.  This makes the sense of urgency to add another arm to the bullpen.

Let me see if I understand you correctly? From what you say in this post it seems you feel a paying customer heckling a player at an MLB game should be dragged from the stands and beaten nearly to death(at least) with baseball bats. Since you use the plural "bats" I assume you mean that the heckled players teammates should join in on this "merciless" on-field beating you advocate.

Sir, what you are supporting is the felony crime of "assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill".If the "merciless beating" you favor happened to kill the fan, the players involved would be guilty of murder! So, am I correct in assuming that you think it's justifiable for a professional athlete to maim or kill anyone at a game who dares jeer him?

Besides the harm to the man being beaten, have you thought through the practicle implications of what you favor. Such a beating would invariably result in a huge riot breaking out in the stadium. This could very well result in lots of innocent fans being hurt or killed.Does anybody want the very violent type of riot that occurs at some European soccer matches(and results in many deaths) breaking out in a baseball stadium where they're watching a game with their kids?If you have kids, would you want them in such a place with all hell breaking loose? If you're fine with all this, then you have some very deep problems!

There will always be loud-mouthed drunken bums at MLB games. If they get out of line they should be hauled away by the police and arrested. But, there is NO PLACE in MLB for players who physically attack the bums who verbally abuse them during games. These players are professionals, and should act accordingly.Crowd control at ball games is the job of law enforcement professionals. They should handle the louts. The players are there to play ball. They should stick to playing the game!!

The heckler not only deserved what he got, he should have been beaten mercilessly with bats. I have no pity for him. I hope you are saying that "tongue in cheek" sport. If a girlfriend/wife nags you to the point that you push her out of your face, then you go to jail. Period. It's called battery.

Yes, players are held to a higher standard. It's part of the deal of big time sports. It's not surprising that some here think this type of behavior from a player is acceptable. Time to grow up or at least act like you are a little bit civilized.

I'll wait and see on this one. If the fan was out of line, then that should be taken into account. If it comes out that Romero just snapped? Then the punishment will undoubtedly fit the crime.
