I guess Jon Heyman tweeted this about Reyes today. Not sure how reliable of a source Heyman is though.

I can't believe Duda hasn't hit a HR in the majors yet, he's a big guy. In the minors he has no problem jacking it (yep, in the minors).Duda's shaping up to become another AAAA player, like Nick Evans. Too good for the minors, not good enough for the majors. And with Fernando Martinez getting injured AGAIN, it looks like we'll be signing a free agent to play RF next year. |

But if you're interested in lowballing me like the Mets, I'm going to wait it out till FA. Saw something posted from the Boston Globe advocating they put together a crop of prospects and trade for Jose Reyes because you don't sign Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford just to finish in second, time is now so go for the gold, and Reyes can make that happen for the Red Sox. I still think at this point it would take an OVERWHELMING offer to get Alderson to trade Reyes because of the fan uprising. |

I note that cbssports has altered their format. The word Links has been replaced by Bookmarks and we now have an addition called Stream.
I can understand the Link/Bookmark change as pressure from the site users who have difficulty with the word Link since it reminds them of all those times held in bracelets by the authorities while Bookmarks holds no such bad karma since they have never read a book. Stole one perhaps, but never read. Stream, I don't know what to make of yet, It seems tied to the Mets and to my fantasy players. |

If we are truly set to pay Beltran's contract for the remainder of the season he has to bring back a prime prospect in return. Wise move here by Alderson, he knows it's the opportunity to convert Beltran into another organizations top 5 prospect. I was actually very happy to see that tidbit.

If that comes to pass, it would be a job well done. But you can't eat until it's on your plate. |

NAVY, left you a ? sometimes back, assuming that you were still active duty. Do they still use the term snipes for the engineering crew, ie machinists, boiler tenders, IC, etc.? |

-
Mets Daily ThoughtsJuly 19, 2011 6:21 pm
You are actually talking to a snipe Yogi, or Machinist Mate nowadays. Engineroom guy regardless. That word still is thrown out there, but I find my self using it more with the old school guys. When I was on recruiting duty I used it all the time when talking up the retirees. You didn't need to say BT, MM or anything like that, just call your self a snipe and they knew exactly what you were talking about. Yup, I got almost 13 years in and a little more than 7 to go until the glorious check for life at the ripe old age of 41! In the words of Bart Scott, CAN'T WAIT! |

That was a good all around game tonight for the Mets, one of the better wins they've gotten this year. They did leave something like 13 men on base in the game but they out-hit St Louis 14-5 in the 4-2 victory.
Dillon Gee, who was kind of shaky in his last few outings, turned things around tonight and pitched a fantastic game. Gee took a no hitter into the 5th inning before allowing the Cardinals to get 2 hits and score a run. Overall Gee only allowed 3 hits and 2 ER over his 7 IP. The Mets were also held scoreless until the 5th, but then the 1-2 combo of Jose Reyes and Justin Turner both singled to get things started, Pagan quickly followed with a 2 RBI double to give the Mets the lead. Jason Bay came up a couple batters later with 2 on base and only 1 out but once again he failed to get the runner home from 3rd. Luckily the Mets were already ahead at that point. The Mets added more to their lead in the very next inning when Turner singled again and Beltran walked, and Daniel Murphy came through driving them in with a big 2 RBI double. Parnell came in throwing hard and got the job done in the 8th, and Izzy looked even more impressive coming in to save the game 1-2-3 in the 9th. Good stuff from the Mets as a team tonight. More positive notes from the game: -Jose Reyes made some outstanding defensive plays tonight, probably saved the game on a couple occasions. He also went 2 for 5 with a run scored in his return from the DL. He looks to be healthy again. -Justin Turner, taking over at 2nd for the recently demoted Tejada, went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored in the game. He also made a couple fine defensive plays. -Murphy had a big double and is now batting .310. Who would have thought his average would've held up like that to this point in the season and that he'd be batting cleanup successfully? The guy has impressed at the plate thus far this year, I like the improvement in his game from the previous years. -Beltran went 3 for 3 with a run scored and a couple walks in his return to the lineup. -Paulino went 3 for 4. --David Wright is set to return to the lineup this Friday, so we'll see how that goes. |

Great post ATW with a lot of good recap on the game...my only comment is:
WHAT Mets FAN WOULD HAVE THOUGHT ONE YEAR AGO THAT Jason Isringhausen WOULD BE THE METS CLOSER? WOW!! |

The guy has impressed at the plate thus far this year, I like the improvement in his game from the previous years. I am playing Daniel Murphy at U IF this week and can tell you that although he is only 1-9 in the past two games he has hit 7 ball hard including the line drive caught by Ryan Theriot that had Murphy discussing the play with his helmet. |

MrBMG - I was thinking the same thing about our beloved "Izzy"... Jason Isringhausen.
When you look at the rest of the team and consider the expectations in the spring, there are some guys that surprisingly have Value. Alderson picked up Isringhausen off the scrap heap, now teams are inquiring about him as the deadline nears. Chris Capuano was acquired on the Cheap, now he would be a great fit for a team looking to round out it's starting five. Daniel Murphy has hit well this season and may also have some value. |

In the bottom of the 10th, tied at 5-5, and 1 out, Angel Pagan crushed the first pitch he saw over the right field wall. Giving the Mets a nice dramatic 6-5 win over the Cards. And also the Mets first walk off HR of the year (bout time). This win puts the Mets back over the .500 mark again.
It was pretty neat to see that ball head right towards the booth with the SNY bros. Overall, great game to watch, I only wish for more soon! |

Very enjoyable game to watch again tonight. Mets were resilient, showing fight, showing they wanted the W bad enough. They came back twice, once down 4 runs to tie and then again to tie it at 5-5. And then... the bomb from Pagan. Mets win.
Niese on the mound tomorrow, bring out the brooms. |

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Mets are now 100% sure they will not trade Jose Reyes this July..
http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/sto ry/_/id/6786992/sources-new-york-me ts-convinced-deal-jose-reyes?campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines Carlos Beltran has reportedly been given a list of teams by the Mets and asked which one(s) he would prefer to be traded to. |

Mets Daily ThoughtsJuly 21, 2011 11:19 am
If Carlos Beltran is dealt and I regret that that is likely, I would think that the Indians or Pirates would be better partners for the Mets. Both would want the cash the Mets are offering in a deal and both through years of selling likely have better prospects to offer than the Phillies who have been buyers.

Made it to the game last night, and besides the Braves and Phillies (and of course the Yankees in interleague) there's nothing better than beating St. Louis. Way too many Card fans in the stands...although in all fairness the group behind my brother and I were actually from St. Louis. Gee looked great last night, had his rhythm going and mixed up pitches well to keep them off balance. Hey, if it wasn't for that infield single that he gloved and missed by inches, who knows what wouldn't happened? |

Well, unfortunately no sweep. That was not a good game for the Mets today.
Reyes did get another triple but ended his long streak of 87 at-bats without a strikeout. Pagan looked like a dufus in centerfield today, made a couple lackadaisical mistakes. Perhaps a little cocky after his first ever walk-off homer yesterday. Pagan also went 0 for 3 today at the plate and is hitting only .170 overall in July. Duda made a big costly throwing error. Beltran went 0 for 3 and popped out in what many people consider his final at-bat in NY as a Met. Big Pelvey up tomorrow night in Florida. |

We may end up trading Carlos Beltran and we may miss the playoffs, but I would willingly give up both if by some way, shape or form if Mike Pelfrey would at some point take the mound and throw that first no hitter. Now that would make a lot of folks FEEL EVEN WORSE!! but I would rather enjoy it.

By the way the Mets just announced that their plan is to have Johan Santana join the team and pitch his first game of the season 1 month from today, August 21st.

ATW,
Where did you see that about Santana? I guess that's good news. I'm anxious to see how he performs after all this time. I haven't heard much about him in a while. I'm wondering when he does come back and pitch if he'll be treated with extra care. You know certain pitch count, or if he's completely good to go full force. I was just on Metsblog and didn't see anything concerning him. Was this news on TV? All in all, I'm glad to finally hear a set date of Johans return. |

CBS New York: The timetable is fluid, but Santana would be slated to pitch in Brooklyn for the Cyclones on August 6 when they host the Staten Island Yankees. There then would be a couple of starts at Triple AAA Buffalo on August 11 (vs. Syracuse) and August 16 (vs. Toledo). The Bisons begin a 10-game homestand on August 10 that runs through the 19th. That would put Santana in line to pitch in New York on the 21st. Santana has been throwing bullpens and feeling great immediately after, and also in the days that have followed those pens. He did experience some shoulder soreness about a month or so ago, but that was considered a natural by-product of serious shoulder surgery. There’s a possibility of a rehab start in Port St. Lucie where Santana has been working out, but that is undetermined at the present time. Santana’s spring training “officially” began on July 11, so if you project out 6 weeks the timetable is pretty much in sync. But all dates are subject to change depending on how Santana feels after each outing. More time could be built in. But if he can go every five days – and that’s a big if – he could possibly make two more starts at Citi Field after the 21st – against Atlanta and Florida – during the month of August. Stay tuned. |
