And Rooters - where is the love and props for Papelbon?? 30 saves this season and first player in MLB to have 30+ saves in first 6 seasons according to MLB.com. Sox must resign him - but his price keeps climbing?
Stats - Beckett gets lucky win #13??? eerie......but 2.50 ERA as friendly as Casper.... |

Why do I have the sneaking suspicion that Bard (and maybe albers) are in cahoots with Paps? No better way to drive up the price. I just can't figure how Paps is going to repay the help. Maybe he droops later, after he signs? Tampa today vs. lester -is it like the last outing? Was there an issue with Umps last night? I heard rumbles. Frankly, both the Sox and Yanks have looked sleepy at the plate. Tired and little punch. Today, Yanks fell behind 6-1.. looked dreary. Couldn't stomache another lose after last night's snoozefest. Then Arod came thru (after a long while off) with a 3 run homer, Granderson a 2 run hr.. and it's 7-6 in the 8th. Shades of october? As to saves... 30 + in 1st 6, huh? Nice, can it last? I say that since I've been a Mo fan : 40 times 15 years = 600. incredible accomplishment. Also a humble guy, great teammate and good man. best athlete on the club, btw. Dream? to play center fiel for one inning.. and he could. The weekend could map the final stretch - stay away from the trolls, Hans.. it might be contagious or something. |

Stats - no doubt Mo is one of the best - if not THE best - closer in MLB history. Which makes it that much more special the few times when the Sox get to him in the 9th of a tight game. Yankees have breakout HR power at any time - makes them very dangerous - if they can stay hot going into October. Would just like to see the Sox w/i striking distance going into the Bronx series - keep it interesting.

another tough loss for the Sox. WP run key difference in this game - but the bats are asleep. I said a few posts ago - Sox bats need to WAKE UP and I was scolded that that was not the problem. I say again - Sox bats need to wake up. How many LOB in this game? how many in scoring position w/no R production? Top 4 batters 0-12?? Top 6 1-17 ?? seriously .... oh where oh where have the Sox bats gone - oh where oh where can they be? Amazing number of trolls and idiots on the glogs today. Seems to get worse each day? Yankees come from behind with HR power to pull it out 7-6. Back to 4 back - with 11(?) left - time to concentrate on winning the darn wildcard. Sox need at least a split of the series with the Rays and then sweep the Orioles - b/c if they have must win situation in the Bronx - it's going to be ugly - especially with these lowly bats. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....

Sox bats need to wake up
Hub: Agree. Hits. especially with men on. I've seen the Yank hitters the same way - swinging at a ball in the dirt, taking early pitches down the pipe and then swinging at crap instead, watching strike 3, foul pops on the 1st pitch, just plain dumb hitting. Crazy making. Tomorrow is tough with Price. Then O's who have a few good arms. Closer Yanks get to clinching, sooner they can rest and that's trouble for those final 3 with Tampa. Curious. |

e-rock: no need to take back kudo's for Mo. It's ok to respect an opponent - that's the only way beating them means anything!
(Unless your mouth/somtach was reacting to today's pitching... 8 runs.. ouch. Rays are fiesty.) Issue is those last 3 Tampa games. If Yanks have clinched, tougher for Sox. |

so can we NOW hit the panic button? 3 out of 4 to the Rays! For the love of Pete.... and although Orioles for 4 at Fenway - we have Lack(ing) pitching the first of the opening DH tomorrow. Chock up another in the L column? Yanks lose too - which delays the inevitable clinching for only a bit more. Is there a Plan B yet?????
Go Red Sox!! (I mean LET'S GO!!!)

I know Stat regarding Rivera, he is the best. This will be an interesting 10 days.
It wouldn't be the Sox if our stomachs aren't in our throats |

Ironic the way things are working out. Do the math:
Yanks have a magic # of 7 with 11 to play. 1 = Twins 2 = split with Rays 2 = split by Sox/Balt Leaves 2 for the Boston/NY series... So ONE win among those 3 games means the Yanks CLINCH at home in the big ballpark, with Mo's 602, having their good pals the Red Sox as company. priceless. What a nice gesture, I say. Colorful backdrop, great photos, rest the last few games. Imagine that. |

Not sure if the Sox really have any other choice but to re-sign Papelbon at the end of the season. They have the money, they can afford to overpay him. Bard has proven to be a good set-up man, a couple bumps along the way but what pitcher doesn't have them? Why break up one of the better 8th to 9th inning punches in baseball? Yanks forgot how to hit again yesterday, but given the lineup they put out there can't get too upset about it. Will be great to see Rivera break the all-time saves record at home (hopefully). If there's one guy that deserves a standing O at the Stadium it is Mo! |

Big day today with a Fenway DH and Twins@Yanks. Defense shakey to start as mcD errors, Weiland gives up 2 early. With Lackey in the nightcap it could be a long day. in NY: Granderson Hrs for 2. 3-0.
Issue as I see it is.. the faster NY clinches, the sooner they sit. The sooner they sit, Tampa may see the callups. Those 1st 4 NY/Rays may not be enough to hold off Tampa, much less those last 3. But, ya never know. Hard on the fans I bet. After all the lopsided games. Can Bard and the pen write a story line fans enjoy? |

Reading scores seen the Sox loss the first of a DH. Second John Lackey almost blows a big lead and Sox up 18-9 or something.
Lead back to two over the Rays. Yankees take the division and some help with the Rays. Will settle our who your daddy score in the playoffs. |

Yesterday was surely a day of Sox talk all around. Demise, resurrection, errors, inside the park hr, famine, feast.
Today another chance. Will they be "hoist on their own Bedard?" Will the Yanks (god forbid) help the Bostons? NY# = 5. Say the Yanks split (2). Say the sox lose 1 with O's. Then the 3 games in NY come down to one win for the division. ...and the last 3 with Rays are rest games. How does that impact the WC race? |

The Royal RootersSeptember 20, 2011 9:05 pm
Yanks up 4-0 on the Rays in the 5th.
Sox though are in another dog fight with the O's up 5-4 after a run scored when Mark Reynolds drop the ball from Matt Weiters after the ball went home with the bases loaded. |
