2009 Steelers Draft and Mel Kiper Sucks Thread

They have either Keenan Lewis or Cortez Allen in the wings for Saftey if need be, so to me OG and ILB is probably the biggest hole we have at talented depth.
Dale Lolley made a comment that they were actually replacing Ryan Clark with Cortez Allen in some dime packages yesterday.  More as a way to get Allen on the field than as any kind of effort to make him a Safety, but I found it interesting.  I think the team sees Allen as a future starting CB and I haven't heard anything about Keenan Lewis making the switch to Safety either.  If those two players continue to develop, along with Ike Taylor and William Gay (who is better than most people think), this is a very deep group of CBs.

While I agree that OG is much more of a priority than Safety, I think this team really needs to start looking for replacements for both Clark and Troy.  I have serious concerns about Troy moving forward.  These  head injuries are becoming too common.  At what point does he just say enough is enough and that his family is more important than his career?

The Steelers will have another late selection this year in round 1, but if there is a super-talented Safety available at that pick, I wouldn't be disappointed in the selection.

See!!!! The coaches do read this message board!!!! I've been practically begging for the Steelers to replace Clark in obvious passing situations! Gay was not the weak link in the Super Bowl last year. Rodgers abused Ryan Clark and Anthony Madison all day!!

I was looking on the risers/fallers on the cbs site and was reading about this kid from pitt, Brandon Lindsey OLB 6-2 250 played with his hand on the ground and standing up, has a good motor, good change of direction for coverage purposes. What do you guys think about this kid? Is he a good fit for our system? Anyone see this kid play? Where is he projected to go?

Same Questions about the FS from Arkansas, Tramain Thomas.....replacement for Clark??

Roc, Brandon Lindsey is rated mid second and Tramain Thomas is rated 5- 6th round. . A lot can change, Devon Still is flying up the boards, just a month ago he was a late first to early second rounder, now a top ten talent ??? The all-star games and the combine/pro days will help sort this out. Half these kids will still Play again in a bowl game, more chances to move up, down, or suffer an injury. And how many Juniors declare is going to Help Push guys back to Pittsburgh, The FS I like is Markele Martin, probably goes mid second.

After last night, you got to think OG, man Kemo stunk up the place on pass protection.

Other than DeCastro and Konz in round one, I would not touch Osemele or Glenn as a first rounder, they remind me of Trai Essex. We already have one guy who is a swing man.  I would not be surprised, in the cap year, if they do not cut #68 the Penalty machine.  I guess we start looking at the OG who are rated in rounds 2-4, that is my best guess.

You have to admit Mike Mayock is a HUGE improvement over anything ESPN puts on the air, he understands the game, the players, and how the structure of each team works. How many broadcasts on CBS or Fox do they even discuss Kevin Colbert? The answer is NONE because they are clucking fueless.

Funny that you say that.  My wife was wrapping Christmas presents for the kids and sorta watching the game.  Out of no where she asks,  Who is that commentator?  I like listening to him.  He explains what happened really well and doesn't seem biased like most of the other commentators.

She is a casual fan that is subjected to a whole lot of football! Made me proud!

I gotta agree that Kemo is going to be gone next season.  He is a turd!Willie Colon is to injury prone to count on and he's due a over 4 million as well. Hopefully they let both those guys go keep Starks and pick up a couple young talented linemen in the draft.

I like Mike Mayock. Every channel except the den of McShart has its commentators I like, actually. FOX has a pretty good play-by-play guy in Kenny Albert, CBS has it in Ian Eagle, and Solomon Wilcots may just be the finest color commentator on TV now. On the other end we have turds like Joe Buck, Phil Simms, Jon Gruden, Randy Cross, etc. Of special mention is Gus Johnson. He's awful, but in a hilarious way.

Mayock is great at the combine too, Deion is useless and once he starts his ghetto rants, I really have trouble comprehending his analysis. When he talks slow and shares information, then he is like Micheal Irving and Shannon Sharpe, both whom I like for their candidness.

ESPN College Football halftime is so LAME, how can anyone listen to McShart and his dweebish jibber jabber, HE KNOWS NOTHING and ADDS NOTHING TO ANYTHING. And then then Beth Mowins as the play by play is just mind-boggling, she makes me want to put my ear muffs on. Simms sucks he is in Brady's jock for the most part and probably dreams about spooning, it's sickening. Then John Gruden, every single guy is great, and should be going to the pro bowl. Jaws talks like he has marbles his mouth and took one to many blows to the head in Philly. And the other MNF muppet, Tirico just flat out goes bloats. I do like Moose Johnson, he is fair and honest. On NFL network Sapp is a big clown, but I like Jamie Dukes. Paul  Burmeister should be selling insurance instead of hosting an NFL show. and Tom Waddle mucks soose, as does Andrew Siciliano and Jeff Darlington.  I also like Willie McGinest and Heath Evans, they are somewhat impartial and as former players I respect their opinion.

At the bottom of the link, someone had a good point, too many bowls. It's become little league, everyone gets a trophy, no losers. But for me, I could care less of the trophy, the players I did not see during the year I may get a shot at now, albeit most of the games are on NUSS network.  The thing that bothers me is how everyone sold out, no more Tangerine Bowl or Cherry Bowl, now it's the Papa John Bowl, or the Chick Fil'a Bowl. Ad revenue and sponsorship has taken over football, even the Steelers play at Heinz Field. Don't forget to put ketchup on your burgers, like anyone red blooded American doesn't use Heinz Ketchup on their burger. Hot Dogs, that is a sore subject with me, if you are over 15 and still put ketchup on a dog, that right there is a violation of condiment rule 01-1. Yell

In case anyone missed it, Chad Spann is now on the Steelers Practice Squad. FOrgot which poster liked this kid, but I remember this video. Keeps his pads low, keeps his feet moving, great vision, breaks tackles, can catch out of the backfield, good on special teams. The only thing the clip does not show is if he can pick up a blitzing LB.

also Elsha Joseph is back on the PS, glad to know some of the guys we liked are on the short list of Kevin Colbert.

nybites, great vid on Chad, thanks.  Reminiscient of  Redman, but from a pretty big time conference.  Too bad bb isn't here ... it'd be something like " well, with good football you can never have too many RB'S" ! WinkTongue outLaughing

I would just like to comment on this guy. To me he seems like the perfect safety for our system. He typically hangs back for OK State and is always playing centerfield and keeping plays in front of him. For some reason he's knocked for his lack of run support capability, maybe because of his typical assignment as a pass defender, but he can lay the wood. Add to that he could be this class's fastest safety - not the most important stat in the world, of course, but draftscout has him at a low 40 of 4.38. Can easily upgrade Ryan Clark. If he falls to us in the second, I'd snatch him up.
