Found thid iteresting article at Steelersdepot on Brockers:

http://www.steelersdepot.com/2012/0
3/lsu-dt-michael-brockers-being-men
tored-by-bills-dt-williams/

It basically tells how Kyle Williams NT of the Bills has been mentoring him on 3-4 technique. That's a really good start but it's the lack of arm strength and a poor combine that doesn't sit well with me, was he the product of the people around him or is he the real deal?

It also mentions how he bulked up from 250 and now weighs 320, which seems like its all fat wrong kind of bulking up. He is a redshirt sophmore though.

Folks,

I want you to think about this one...  What do you think of a Zack Brown at ILB?   I saw an article somewhere stating that he can play any LB spot and could in fact play ILB in a 3-4....   Kid is a tremendous athelete and has to speed to cover any TE in the league....  Kind of interesting...     how about at #24 if he is the BPA?

Zach Brown is actually a pretty intriguing prospect. ILB is not his primary position, but he can play every position and the kid is FAST!! He's 244 right now and having him in the middle with Timmons would be great. Also, Tomlin likes guys who are position flexible for depth and injury purposes so he may be a guy the Steelers are targeting. That being said, i think they grab Hightower if he's there. He is a pure ILB and a vocal leader on offense which the Steelers badly need.

The Steelers are clearly getting their roster younger and today has been a sad day as we watch many of the big name players of the past decade get cut as cap casualties. James Farrior seems to be the biggest player that we cut that has almost no great replacement. Foote will work this year, but he is older as well. This is why I think Hightower is the guy. He is an awesome player and I am obscenely high on him as the first.

Lyman, good point try running on Cleaveland w/ Taylor and Poe. In the middle. Cleveland also needs a QB badly, forget Brittle Bambi. Browns have terrible luck drafting QB's starting with Couch, Quinn... Zachary Brown @ 24 nice option!

Cool, what makes you think that is the case?  Keuchly was more productive and his measurables are quite impressive (i know measureables aren't always relevent but his production in college would suggests that he made use of his athelticism well).  Is it mostly because Hightower has more experience in a 3-4 defense? or do you think that he has a higher ceiling in terms of how his game will translate to the NFL?  Maybe it's because he's more versatile, i saw him play with his hand in the ground as a DE as well as his natural MLB position.
He is an effective blitzer from the limited amount of tape i've seen.  But Keuchly is a bit faster than him and probably more effective in coverage which is now becoming more and more important with TE's like Gronk and Graham.

Hightower does have the higher ceiling. luke is more polished now, with better fundementals, hightower is more physically gifted, aswell as having very good instincts and leadership potential, right now, luke is the better player, 5 years time...hightower may be that new linebacker pro bowl type player, but he needs the right system, the right coaches, he will flourish in pit or bal. luke is not faster on game day, there are only 2 lb;s who i saw that could explode and pursue quicker than hightower, one is a moron and the other will probably declare next year.

Im also pretty sure that hightower can play the mike, will and even jack in a 34.

1. Hightower

2. Kendall Reyes NT Uconn

3. Lucas Nix OG Pitt

4. Matt Reynolds OT BYU

5. Isaiah Pead RB Cincy

6. Shaun Prater CB Iowa

7. Jacquis Smith DE Mizzou

7. Chandler Harnish QB UNI

7. Greg Childs WR Arkansas

Right now I'm pretty set on Hightower for 24 and after that I think they go for a starter at guard and someone for a backup and future starter behind Hampton. After that I think it's about filing out depth areas for RB, CB, and OT, getting another developmental guy for the DE position, a tall receiver, and a possible 3rd QB to battle with either Troy Smith or Charlie Batch. I could see them going kicker in th e7th to battle with Suisham, but for now I'll leave that for PFA. I don't think punter, Kapinos has earned that and I think OLB is fine with Carter and Worilds.

Adrien Robinson (6-4, 264 pounds) was not invited to the combine, so the tight end had to prove his NFL worth at Cincinnati’s pro day. Robinson — a first-year starter in 2011 — worked out impressively in the position drills. In workouts, Robinson clocked 4.56 and 4.55 40-yard dash times. In the jumps, Robinson excelled, going for 39.5 inches in the vertical jump and an 11-foot, 3-inch broad jump (each would have been tops among tight ends at the combine). Robinson ran 4.40 in the short shuttle and a 7.01-second cone drill, and did 15 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

Hey guys this guy could be a nice sleeper pick up late in the draft, numbers are pretty good during his work out.

If invited to the combine he would have been first in the vertical, first in the broad jump, 4th In the three cone and middle of the pack in the short shuttle. Ran the 40 around 4.55, not bad. Imagine a TE with that kind of vertical in the red zone to go up and get jump balls.

Roc,

Yeah maybe jumped to conclusions, it was more or less predicated on the sucky suckfest of blocking that Ben gets on blitzes, Sure he can be a target in the red zone, but he may need to chip a LB and 15 reps is wimpy. Yes he can improve, and a lot of my anger is still percolating from Airbrains has his no brains schemes.

I hope John Martin makes it back to Pittsburgh, we need OL that can get out ino the next level. Foster and Legursky are marginal backups, if we had a few more guys like Pouncey and Gilbert who were more athletic, I think Todd Haley could institute someting other than trips right bunch on two. Yell

Nyb, here's Gronk's numbers at his pro day just to put things in perspective. Gronkowski (6-foot-6 1/4, 258 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.65 seconds with the wind and 4.73 seconds against the wind. He had a 33 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 11-inch broad jump, a 4.47-second short shuttle and a 7.18-second three-cone drill, and he stood on his bench-press number from the combine. He did all the position drills and looked good catching the ball and running routes. He had just two drops. Adrien only has 1 year starting experience, where Gronk was more experienced coming in.

Kuechly is Jarod Mayo, Hightower is Lawrence Timmons. One makes tackles, one makes plays. I watched a lot of BC games, he tackles everything, but he is more of a fit as a 4-3 MLB, where he stops the ball carrier instincltively.  Hightower is more of a 3-4 backer, more versitile, you can move him around,  Tomlin will like that. Kuechly can play in the middle, that is it and I am not convinced he is a 3 down player. Hightower can cover the backs and TE's that I have seen.  Luke's  teamate,  Max Holloway I like a lot as a converted DE into a OLB, I would bring him into camp and see if he could surplant Chris Carter. You can pick him up late, he was a Shrine Game standout. When I look at both Keuchely and Hightower I look past their tackle total bedcause that is what the BC player does, tackles everything, but watching the games I just don't see a guy that LeBeau can move all over the field and confuse the Offense. He will stay in the middle and tackle people.

The other thing to consider is this, the talent surrounding Kuechly. Of course he makes a billion tackles his talent level is way above most of his teammates whereas HIghtower is playing next to a bunch of guys getting drafted in the top 100.  You can also look at it where the O keys on blocking Kuechly and he still gets to the ball. BOth players are going to be pros, I just see Hightower as a better fit and a higher ceiling. Which player is going to only get better. What I don;t like about Hightower is his DNPs at the combine, sort of like the top QB's who have agents telling them not to throw.

Another ILB the got the snub at the NFL Combine was Jerry Franklin from Arkansas..  I saw him in the shrine game and he made some plays...  Not sure if he got hurt in the game - but didn;t see him after the 1st quarter..    Will be watching for his pro day and he is a 3rd day pick with some value...
