Nevermind on the German kid, he's projected to go 1st round and I think he might be more suited on a 4-3, now if we were switching over to a 43 then the kid would be perfect for us.

Here's an article that lists the colleges that use the 3-4 as their base defense, could be a helpful scouting tool.
[http://collegefootball.rivals.com/c ontent.asp?CID=1089931] As of this article there were 14 schools. |

What a weak-ass effort from Dane Bugphuccer on the Risers and Fallers.
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/ risersandfallers almost like he watched 2-3 games and then short changed the fans looking for insight. Any information is a tool, and after reading it, I want to check out the RB from OK State, Joseph Randle. The Cowboys don't play this week-end, and half their competition outside of Texas and Arizona has been weak. But their next 3 games are @ Kansas, then Home vs. Iowa State and then TCU in successive weeks. If Randle enters the draft, he is a Junior, and that seems to be a favorable trait that Tomlin likes. |

Even before I clicked on the link - I knew Dana would have Geno Smith as his #1 riser.... sheez
My guess is tool bag Bugmuncher will move Bailey and Geno to the Fallers side after Texas shuts WVU out this weekend.. ![]() enjoy, bb |

Walter's football has his latest 3 round mock up... Steelers taking...
1) Jackson Jeffcoat De/OLB Texas.. I believe Texas plays WVU either this weekend or next - a real good game to watch Jeffcoat in - he is a pass rusher... 2) Marquess Wilson WR Wash St.. I think I talked about this last week.... 3) Stepfan Taylor RB Stanford. - Offense again? only if taylor is BPA.. enjoy, bb |

1) Jackson Jeffcoat De/OLB Texas.. I believe Texas plays WVU either this weekend or next - a real good game to watch Jeffcoat in - he is a pass rusher... The problem with mocks is that the person doing the mock is not a devote Steelers fan and has not learned how they draft. All 3 picks could be the BPA, but when they start saying crap like Wallace, Mendenhall have contracts up, and Harrison is about done, they really miss the boat. IMO I would use one of the first 3 picks on the line, either one, if they are BPA. Some guys I think could really help this team in the trenches that should be available early in the draft. Jake Matthews OT Texas A&M (son of Bruce Matthews) Barret Jones OG,, OT, OC kid does it all DJ Fluker, OT with good feet from Alabama Sylvester Williams massive DT out of NC John Jenkins monster DT out of Georgia, 6-3 358 Jesse Williams another wide body DT in Nick Satan's system. Later rounds, some kids that come in and compete. Mark Jackson OT Small school kid out of Glenville state Xavier Nixon OT(another FLorida kid that Pouncey might push for) Quinton Dial- Alabama. plays the 5, burried on the roster, think Brandon Deaderick. Baker Steinkuhler- Nebraska, looked good vs. the Wisconsin OL, could play the 5. Ziggy Hood is our best DL player right now, however he does not have the propensity for batting down balls, could be that he is a few inches shorter than Aaron Smith and Brett Keisel, this game is a matter of inches at times, and I wonder if he has Willie Colon arms. Watching JJ Watt dominate the LOS, seems to me the energetic DE with length is a better fit for the 5 than a guy stout at the point built like a bowling ball. I hate to get trapped into a number and measurement game, but a taller DE in passing downs is more likely to bat down a ball. William GHolston is a guy that is a tweener, not sure if he can hold the point, but he reminds me a heck of a lot of Calais Campbell, someone I thought would not fit the 3-4, but steelers=sb really liked him. Boy was I wrong.... but I admit to it., The draft is a crap shoot, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. That is why I adamantly hate Smell Diaper and ESPN, they do not have the co.jones to admit mistakes. Plus the coverage of the draft is pathetic on so many levels, I will leave that rant for another day. And before anyone starts wondering why I looked at OT so hard early in the post, I have some logic to it. Always upgrade your OL, and who is to say Marcus Gilbert will never be moved inside and Max Starks will someday not come back to save the day. Mike Adams is an enigma right now, I have no information other than he is struggling with pass protection as a rookie. I feel that he thinks too much about his footwork, instead of playing with natural instincts. Now the run game, he is pancaking people. With this team, it goes as Ben Roethlisberger goes, you need to protect your franchise from more injuries. Before I commit to any RB in the draft, let's see what Rashard Mendenhall looks like on Sunday. |

Would bring a lot of flexibility also... It's only 4 games and I'm thinking he'll play better - but - I'm not to wild about Colin at the LG spot right now... maybe there is some Karma at that spot - he seems to have developed Kemoprocedureitis and Chrisholdsyntrom enjoy, bb |

Watched the first 20 minutes of the USC vs Utah game last night and came away impressed (more than impressed) with Utah's Star Lotulelei.. Wow... He really is worthy of his first round grade. Over powered the USC OC who is the best OC in this years draft - Khaled Holmes... If you get a chance - Watch this kid... Unfortunately will be long gone when we pick..

Yep bb, Star is another possible Suh, I think he cannot miss, long gone as the best DT in the draft, kid will instantly improve the defense for any team because he will just blow up the middle of the line.
I continue to be unimpressed with Matt Barkley, is he the tallest midget in the carnival, remains to be seen. This years QB class is nowhere near what THe 2012 NFL draft had to offer. Keep an eye on James Harrison, is he back, doe they rest him and put in Jason Hot Tub. Of all the LB right now I am only impressed with Foote and Woodley. Taking a LB early in April seems plausible. I hear all the reports on Debo, Tasmo, and Mendy, but not much about Sly. WIll Adrian Robinson get a hat this year, another question I have. |

------------- Yeah - I only see Harrison playing maybe 50 - 60% of the snaps.... at most.. Also Mendy - been off so long - its going to take a few games to get it going too... Not wild about the "running back by committee" either that we have seen so far... I expect Mendy, Harrison, and Troy to contirbute but back 100%? na - going to take a couple of weeks and hopefully there are no set backs... My guess is David "Pat" Paulson will be released next week when Saunders comes back and A.Robinson may get released when ever they bring back DeCastro.. as much as I'd like to see Beachum catipulted out of here.... I guess it will depend on the health at certain positions.. we'll see enjoy, bb |

bb, I agree, Paulson to the PS if he clears, release some fodder. Robinson, probably the same.
OFF TOPIC: I normally do not inject politics on here, I won't disclose who I am voting for, not the place. However I did have a good suggestion for the next debate. Instead of a wishy washy moderator how about somone who can control the situation. I have three good choices. Ed Hocculi, R. Lee Ermey, or Mills Lane. Thoughts? And Clint Eastwood would have been a good choice but he is already spoken his intentions and is not impartial. Keep it fair, Keep it Fair - Rodney Dangerfled, Caddyshack 1980 |

Nybites,
I vote Hocculi... also the problem with Eastwood running the debates.. he would be talking to 2 empty chairs up there.. In the long run the debates are quite meaningless and I hope folks do research and vote on policy and platform vs judging on a 90 minute debate... or voting like my one grandmother who voted for Clinton in '92 because "He's good looking".... sheez I do need to find one of those "hats" from Caddyshack... make a good fishing cap.... besides scaring all the other anglers away... enjoy, bb |

Watched some of the UConn Rutgers game, great Defensive battle. One of those replacement refs must be the back judge, called "holding' on Byron Jones, who had his arm out for distance/guidance, never grabbed or pushed as he mirrored the WR down the field like a blanket. Really annoyed me, as Charles Barkley would say "TURRIBLE" call.

Early reaction to this week's games:
I still love DeAndre Hopkins. Monster game tonight and for the season 777 yds and 8 t.d.'s. Another team can have Watkins next year, I like Hopkins considerably more. Also in this game, Orwin Smith is a guy I've been following since week 3 of last year. He's listed as a RB, but that Georgia Tech triple-option is hard to translate to the NFL. If anything, this kid has shown more big play ability than Dwyer (while in college) and looks like a speedster with some bulk (not Dwyer fat) to him. Career averages (and keep in mind he's a senior): 9.73 yards per carry and 17.57 yards per reception (only 18tds). I think it was Burghball that mentioned Ezekiel Ansah from BYU a few pages ago and I've had a chance to watch him in three games thus far this year. Very impressive, but where would he play in the NFL? He's like 6'6" and about 270. Why can't he be an OLB in Pitt's D? Is height really the deciding factor? I don't think so. Besides, he plays DE in college, but he also ran track. Speed, size and ability - the Steelers could find a place for him. His teammate Van Noy shows up each game too, but seems better fit at linebacker in a 4-3. Mante T'eo = high character, high energy, perfect fit with the Black and Gold. But I'm not willing to sacrifice a season for anybody. Didn't catch much of the Stanford game, but that defense must have taken the day off. Still have high hopes for Chase Thomas, though. |

Stock up on Mike Glennon, he just upset the #3 team in the country. Florida State is no slouch and is led by E.J. Manuel who some scouts think is the second best QB in the draft.

"RODGERS!" doesn't seem like the same sharp QB without Jennings as his go to guy, and Driver basically being in the same capacity as Ward was last year.
I don't know who said it but, as far as the hieght concerns for our OLB's, you like to think it shouldn't be but I think they like the OLB's on the smaller side to get that low angle around the tackles and for leverage purposes to contain the edges, I think that's a Question you'll have to ask LeBeau and Colbert. Teams 3,4,5 all lost this weekend, big upset weekend. |

I was not sold on LSU, they struggled on more than one occasion. That Mike Glennon kid played very well vs. Florida State in the closing minutes. Walter has a UConn DE, going in the third round, Trevardo Williams to the Cardinals. This kid will absolutely light up the combine, fast and very quick. |

I only do draft, not free agents.
Safeties I like early on: Eric Reid TJ McDonald Robert Lester then later on: Ray Polk out of Colorado, sleeper pick. I discovered a good CB in Clemson last year named Coty Sensabaugh, he climbed up a few hundred spots over the course of the season. Will be looking hard at the secondary in the upcoming weeks. 2013......this is a weak safety class, the year to draft a safety was 2010, Seattle got half their secondary for years to come with Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor. I am with others, now starting to hate the Chris Rainey pick, available were: George Iloka, Justin Bethel, Markelle Martin. Not a big fan of Ryan Mundy, as are most of us. |

I was just going to post something along the lines of: we definitely need to address safety this offseason! I see Eric Reid is the highest rated on the boards, but dont know much about him, if he would be a reach in the first or if hes just the best in a crappy class, thus overrrated in the first round?
Inside linebacker maybe in the later rounds, I've watched every Penn State game this year and would love to see Michael Mauti and to a lesser extent Gerald Hodges in a Steelers uniform! Is it me or does it seem like Ike Taylor commits pass intereference on every play? Just an observation . . . Holding calls aside, Willie Colon is Ben's boy and may just need some time adjusting to a new position and new side. Ben keeps saying that he is pancaking guys all game long, so whatever that is worth . . . This may be the last year for the bloated salaries of the likes of Hampton, Harrison, and Polamalu |

You don't care for Jefferson?
Nope, I don't care for Jefferson right now. It's early on in the season and I like the other three safties because of their length, being able to battle the taller WR and defend passes is a must in today's NFL. I am not stuck on height, heck Polamalu is short and so isn't Earl Thomas, they are the exceptions not the rule. Seeing Troy and Bob Sanders punish themselves year after year, I think a bigger Safety might hold up longer, just an observation. Right now Jefferson is battling an ankle issue, but came back and played at a high level after missing a few games. I guess I am kicking the tires looking for dings and dents.
