The Pac-12 Thread....

Not too bad...I got all the winners this week, but went 1-3-1 on the spread.  The home team underdogs could not get it done, but be wary of same next week.

Utah 14 @ UCLA 21 - UCLA just looked like the better team out there.  Utah made it tough after the first quarter, and scored a late TD to make the Bruins nervous, but they were able to run out the clock and take home the victory.

Oregon State 42 @ Brigham Young 24 - For all of us that were expecting a close low scoring game, we were wrong, although it was pretty close for most of the game 14-14 at the half, 21-21 at the end of the third quarter.  The Beavers exploded for 21 points in the fourth though, and are taking their top 10 ranking back to Corvallis.  Cody Vaz came up big with a 20-32-332-0 line against what had been the nation's fifth ranked defense.   A trip to South Bend should get the Cougars mind off of this whoopin' and after they beat Notre Dame, OSU's victory will look a little better.   The Beavers host the Utes next week.

Stanferd 14 @ Notre Dame 21 - A closer game than I had thought, going into overtime were the Cardinal had fourth tries on first and goal, but could not punch the ball in to tie.  Looking at the replay of the final try, they were pretty darn close though, it looked like they made it on second effort, but the officials had already blown the play dead.   That's still a loss, I'm betting that if Luck was at QB, they would have thrown into the end zone, and ND would have had to honor that threat.   Congrats to Trojanfan12 on calling it "old man football" and giving a 20-14 prediction....that pretty much nailed it.  Stanferd comes across the bay to CAL next week.

USC 24 @ Washington 14 - The Trojans rolled up a 24-7 halftime lead, then the offense went a took a second half nap and left it to the defense to win the game.  They did, pressuring Keith Price, and generating four turnovers.   That was all that was needed.   USC goes back home to face Colorado, while Washington has a sterner test at Arizona.

CAL 31 @ Washington State 17 - I was wrong about the weather, but I wasn't wrong about the rushing game being the difference.  CAL had 318 yards to 36 for WSU, with C.J. Anderson having the most, at 112, but Maynard (73 yds), Sofele (63 yds) and Bigelow (59 yds), all contributed.  384 yards passing for the Cougars kept them from being demolished, but CAL pretty much was in control the entire game.   CAL hosts Stanferd, while the Cougars face a mirror image of their team in the bye week.

Utah 14 @ UCLA 21
Really impressed with the defensive effort by the Bruins after getting destroyed at Cal they allow 1 TD late with just about 3 minutes left to play in the game.
Oregon State 42 @ Brigham Young 24
The jury is in and the Beavers are for real, look out Duck fans there's someone around the corner who can steal your thunder!
Stanferd 14 @ Notre Dame 21

 USC 24 @ Washington 14

I was one Husky turnover at the one yard line or so away from nailing this one on the button!

CAL 31 @ Washington State 17

Wow I have no idea why a few sentences are missing from my post.

As for the Sanford game, the Trees are better than I thought and Notre Dame is not as good as I thought.  Sanford played well enough to win, more than I gave them credit for.

And the Cal game, I nearly nailed that one too, just 4 Cal points away from hitting it dead on!

Well with Luck (meaning the QB not karma) they would have beaten ND. Early interception would probably been a TD instead. Badly underthrown. Cost Stanford a minimum of 3 points. That would have maybe meant Stanford 16-10 winner or ND would have had to forgo the tying FG and go for a TD.  If we could have eschewed the loss to Stanford, life would be much easier, but maybe desperation is a good motivator.
