Well, you are half right, TD. But Boston is going to trounce Miami come ECF. That is, if Miami doesn't get upset in the second round. I could totally see a team like New York, Brooklyn or maybe even Philadelphia using size to defeat Miami. Its unlikely but in any event, Miami won't get past the ECF against Boston. The games start soon, you'll see. 15 days, boys! Enjoy tonight's preseason exhibition against Philly at 7 EST, 6 CST. We'll get to see the kids fight it out for the last spot on the roster. Word. How you plan to beat the Heat without Ray Allen is beyond me. I like the support of your team bro. But face it, your run is over. Pierce is a shell of himself. When he turns it on he goes off. But it doesnt happen as often. Pierce is the go to guy. But who else do you have? Rondo cant lead a team to the Finals on his own. He had the help of a prime Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and K.G. before. Now they're all old and Ray Ray is gone. You replacced Ray Ray with JT Smooth. I like JT Smooth. But what you will see the whole season is a bunch of old guys getting carried by inexperienced young guys who can't carry such a load. On top of that you just mentioned everyone in YOUR respective division as a threat to Miami. You cant use size to defeat Miami. No dominant centers in the East period. And even so, they'll just run you. Put Lebron at the 4 and Bosh at the 5. Now you can put Wade at the 3 and Ray Ray at the 2. Now that's lights out all day. Sick. Celtics dont stand a chance. I see some teams improving in the East. But there just isn't a team I see knocking the Heat off. They play damn good defense and have two of the top scorers in the league. Now they have the best pure shooter in the league. to spread the floor. There just isn't a team in the East with the defensive intensity paired with the offensive talent. All of the teams have one or the other. Brooklyn has a chance. But it's just their first year together. And Pacers have a punchers chance. Outside of that thats it. |

How you plan to beat the Heat without Ray Allen is beyond me.i stopped reading after you somehow thought ray allen was more important then KG and/or Pierce... all ray did was shoot threes on a team no longer operating in a half court offense, ray couldnt keep up with rondo or pierce or even KG and played worse D then all of them combined. if we are talking the ray allen of 5 years ago then obviously JT and Courtney Lee wouldnt be anything but a downgrade... but did you watch ray allen play in the ECF did you watch JT smoke the heat in the finals the year before? to insinuate that at this move was anything less then breaking even is shear stupidity |

but did you watch Ray Allen play in the ECF did you watch JT smoke the Heat in the finals the year before?I'm sorry but it's not fair to compare the two and how they did against Miami in different years. Why don't you compare what Terry did to Miami in 2011 to how Ray did against Miami in 2011? Is it because Ray avg 16 PPG, shot 47% from the field, and 50% from 3 that year against Miami? Those numbers are very simliar to Terry's numbers vs Miami in the finals that year |

Wasn't he playing injured?Yep and that's why if you want to compare the 2 and how they did against Miami you should compare the 2011 playoffs when both were healthy. Wouldn't surprise me if Ray Allen avg close to 15 points with Miami this year. |

So, Jamar Smith and Dionte Christmas were cut yesterday. That makes it a 16 man roster with one more guy to cut. It'll come down to Micah Downs and Rob Kurz. I don't know enough to say which should make the team. I say cut both of them, go with a 14 man roster and wait for Bradley to get better to see whether or not we'll need to pick up another point guard (which I doubt). Anyway, we are looking ready to do some things out here. Can't wait for 10/30/12. The Heat will be tough but I'm not convinced they should be favored against this edition of the Boston Celtics. LeBron James is the best player on the planet without question but we are solid and deep at every position and our chemistry is as close to perfect as a team can get. This is my projected rotation:
Starters: C) Kevin Garnett - Garnett will start and be our defensive anchor. He'll score and he'll rebound. His minutes will decrease. PF) Jared Sullinger - Sully is not that athletic but he plays with energy and intelligence. He will rebound and score. SF) Paul Pierce - The Truth gives us a top notch goto man on offense. His minutes will also decrease but the 4th will be his time. SG) Courtney Lee - Lee is going to give us that defensive wing who can hit the bomb, drive and cut to the basket. PG) Rajon Rondo - Rondo is the crown jewel of the Celtic machine. He is the offensive anchor. MVP candidate. Rotation: C) Darko Milicic/Chris Wilcox - Darko will operate in the high post and be a triple threat on offense while giving us a bigtime interior presence on defense. Wilcox will run the floor and give us hustle and energy. PF) Brandon Bass - Bass will be an ideal backup 4 who can come in and not skip a beat in the event Sullinger is in foul trouble or having an off game. He will earn every penny of his contract and could be a 6th man of the year candidate. SF) Jeff Green - Green will play the 3 and 4 on offense and he will guard 2's, 3's and 4's on D - another 6th man candidate. Guard) Jason Terry - Terry will be a ballhandler, a veteran voice and a scoring threat. He is our third 6th man of the year candidate. X-Factor) Avery Bradley - Once Bradley returns he gives us that pressure D and that backdoor cutter. He allows Lee to come off the bench with our phenomenal 2nd unit. The difference between last year's team and this year's squad is simple. Our bench will look to build on leads. They will run. Rondo will be in the game with the second unit an awful lot and give team's a different look. This team is going to be a beast to deal with. Celtics for #18. Word. |

Obviously, you've never picked up a basketball in your life, bam.
Doc Rivers doesn't use the preseason to win games. Doc Rivers uses the preseason to experiment. I don't know if you knew it or not but there are 82 games in the regular season and preseason games don't count towards any of them. I notice your fear and its to be expected. Especially when you consider that Kobe is up to his old shenanigans and Dwight Howard is close to being a cripple. Oh yeah, I read the reports of how much worse Howard's injury was than you think. It ain't pretty, playboy. Get ready for a whole helluva lot of underachieving this season, dingbat. Heh. Word. |

The offseason overhaul of the greatest franchise in the history of professional sports has just been consummated and it has left The Mighty, Mighty Boston Celtics with the deepest, most formidable roster in the National Basketball Association. The Celtics will win the 2012-13 NBA Championship. Here's why:
1) The OKC Thunder just aren't deep enough to contend with the Celtics when the finals rolls around in June. 2) The Miami Heat just aren't deep enough to contend with the Celtics when the ECF rolls around in late May. 3) It doesn't matter what the 3rd reason is. Let's look at what we're working with here: Starters: The Celtics field a top 5 starting unit. They will get Boston off to great starts and set the tone. C) Kevin Garnett - The Big Ticket doesn't HAVE to play this position but he dominates here at this stage of his career. PF) Jared Sullinger - AND a rookie shall contribute. This kid can rebound, shoot and make plays. He will shine. SF) Paul Pierce - The Truth is, #34 is still the most underrated superstar the league has ever seen. Mr. Fourth Quarter. SG) Courtney Lee - Lee is young, he hits the deep ball, he slashes and he DEFENDS. Great acquisition by Danny Ainge. PG) Rajon Rondo - The best point guard in the league will have more options at his disposal than ever before. MVP. Bench: Boston has the BEST bench in the NBA. They won't be playing to keep leads, they'll be trying to increase leads. C) Darko Milicic, Jason Collins and Fab Melo - Darko will be a highpost revelation. Collins will defend bigs. Fab will be a Red Claw. PF) Brandon Bass and Chris Wilcox - Bass will bring energy and scoring off the bench and so will Wilcox. Great rotation. SF) Jeff Green and Kris Joseph - Green is looking to have his best year in the league and will be a multi-position threat. SG) Jason Terry and Avery Bradley - Bradley can take his time getting back to himself. Jet is on the business of doing Jet. PG) Leandro Barbosa - The Brazilian Blur completes the best bench in the league. The Celtics have BY FAR the best 5 guard rotation in the league. Pierce and Green make up a top 3 small forward rotation. Our Big By Committee strategy will more than hold its own. Rondo sets the hook, Danny Ainge reels them in and Doc Rivers gets 'em ready for the grease. Y'see, to beat the MAN, you have to BE the MAN. And to BE the Man, you have to BEAT the man. Let me tell you something - you don't have to go to Disney World to ride Space Mountain. Space Mountain is right there in the TD Garden. And you know what else? It DOESN'T MATTER what you think. FINALLY, the Boston Celtics are BACK in the NBA FINALS. And its SO SWEET. You don't know nothing about hard times. HARD TIMES is when you run out and try to buy what you think is gonna turn into a title. Not earn it, not build it but buy it. But everybody don't have a price. HARD TIMES is when you do all that just to find out it was a phenomenal waste of cap space. And WHAT YA GONNA DO brother, when the Green Machine for #18, the best roster in basketball, the greatest franchise in pro sports and CELTIC MANIA runs wild on youuuu!!!!!!!!!!!???? ;^)> Word. |

Darko Milicic, Brandon Bass, Jeff Green, Jason Terry and Leandro Barbosa? Think about that for a second. Word. |

Boston Celtics Fans Roll CallOctober 18, 2012 10:13 am
Darko Millicic and Leandro Barbosa at this point in their careers are awful basketball players. If you think these guys can contribute to a second unit, then here, we will also give you the AMAZING Steve Blake AND Chris Duhon!
If you are playing Sullinger at the 4 your going to get burned defensively. An undersized rookie who isn't really known for his stout defense isn't going to fair well. The Celtics are deep. But, it doesn't matter how deep your bench is when LeBron is playing 40+ minutes against you in the playoffs. |

I think if you look at the Lakers bench you will see something much more ghastly. But not to worry as least you have a spry young starting lineup that can eat up the lion share of the minutes. What, no, older than the Celtic, cant be. A back court older than time and no back up point guard(that you want to keep)? Cant be.
I do subscribe to the theory that stars win championchips. But if those stars are old, they better have a good and deep supporting cast. Too bad the Lakers didn't take that approach. I don't know if this team can over come the Heat, but based on the last spring it should be close. The Heat needed to upgrade their bench to compete. Now Ray may be an up grade but he is 38, he will not get starter minutes in Miami, he will not average 15 a game. Wont happen. He was pretty inconsistent off the bench for the Celtic last year, he wanted to start. Father time wins , and we saw that last year with Ray. Rashard Lewis may find the fountain of youth too but he fell off the face of the earth a couple years back never to be heard of again. |

I think if you look at the Lakers bench you will see something much more ghastly. And the Lakers bench ineptitude applies to Boston's second unit making for a ghastly starting lineup (that was the issue being addressed) how? Way to grasp a subject matter and bring in something completely unrelated. Then again, I probably shouldn't be surprised. Official Celtics CBS Board Member logic: Player old = player per se inferior without actually looking at the player. I'll leave you to continue on in your alternate universe where the Celtics are actually a title contender, and the likes of Barbosa and Darko MiLOLcic are superstars. And the rest of us will continue on not taking any of you seriously but thoroughly enjoying the irrationality nonetheless. |

Celtics Bench playing Nets starters and expanding the lead Then he brings back in the old vets who are well rested and ready to keep the defensive intensity up I just love what this team's roster now allows Doc to play depending on oppoenent Big, Small, Fast, Slow It just dont matter with this roster Sully playing so well, a steal my friend I smell the fear, its a fear of the years ahead with this great group love it |

Congrats your bench is better than ours. But lucky for us, Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and Pau Gasol play in the starting lineup. Best starting lineup in the league (unless the Heat somehow work Ray into their starting lineup). |

all ray did was shoot threes on a team no longer operating in a half court offense, ray couldnt keep up with rondo or pierce or even KG and played worse D then all of them combined.Man, do you know your own fuck****ing team? The Celtics are an all half court offense. Just because you have a pg to run up the floor doesnt mean someone runs with him. Ray Allen spread the floor for Pierce, Rondo, K.G., the whole team. You gotta be kidding me man. He probably was the most important because just his presence on the floor opened the offense up. Nobody in their right mind forgets to stay home on Allen. That gave Pierce, K.G., and Rondo more room to operate. Lol. I cant wait to see a healthy Ray Allen spreading the floor for Lebron, Wade, and Bosh. The only knock on Ray Ray is health dude. Shooters can last a long time in this league. And he is the best of the best. I always thought he was the most important to the offense because he spreads the floor and you could always count on him to knock clutch 3's down. to insinuate that at this move was anything less then breaking even is shear stupiditySo you call J.T., a guy that is NOT going to the hall of fame, replacing the hall of famer Ray Allen breaking even? I wouldnt dare call it breaking even. More so like throwing a band aid on a wound. Man, you guys are going to suck bad and see that Ray Allen was the glue on that squad. The Celtics are just lucky to be in the East. By them being there they probably will get a late seed. Anywhere from 5-8. It's going to be a long season for the Celtics. Besides, one injury and your whole season is finished. One injury to any of your top guys. With Miami, Wade can sit out half the season and they'd still be number 1 in the East. Without Ray Allen if Rondo, Pierce, or K.G. get hurt which is pretty much guaranteed to happen, it's a nail in the coffin. As if it was needed since you're already dug into the hole. |

TripDub, you didn't pay much attention to the Celtics last year. Ray was the disruptive elelment. They got better when Avery Bradley started. Jason Terry isn't Ray but he is 3 years younger and when you are talking about a 37 year old Ray, that means something. And Jason Terry isn't replacing Ray, Courtney Lee is. and he is in his prime. Logic is right, this is a running team with Jet, Green, Lee, and Rondo (and Wilcox and Bradley eventually). They getting the fast break points in the preseason. Ray doesn't play the defense that he use too, he didn't talk to his teammates last year, he wasn't the glue on the Celtics. Ray was replaceable last year, healthy or not. And the Celtics were very good inspite of him.

If you are really going to run, you will lose to the Heat in 4 games. You don't want to run against a team that can run better than you, defend, better than you, and is more athletic than you. You want to limit the Heat possession not give them more by creating an uptempo game.
You need to play great defense, get in a halfcourt offense where Rondo eats the Heat defense alive and kicks to his 3 point shooters. Running against the Heat is a recipie for disaster. |
|
-
Boston Celtics Fans Roll CallOctober 19, 2012 11:18 am
Lakers570, that may be the Lakers prescription for beating the Heat, but is not the prescription of a deep athletic team like the Celtics. The Heat got older and less athletic by adding Allen and Lewis. The Celtics need to tire out the big three in Miami, by making them run and play defense. It is true the Lakers cant run with the heat, too old and no depth.
