Good Morning All!

"Don't Wake Me" - Black Crowes

"High In The Morning" - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Man, I miss those days.

"Crying" - Roy Orbison
One of the best vocal melodies of all time. His voice is a little slice of heaven in this tune.

Hey Koy, did you see the Stones documentary Crossfire Hurricane on HBO last week? Amazing footage in it, though I didn't know it was only part 1 of 2. It ended around 1981 and I was so confused because they didn;t say they were breaking it into two parts. Still awesome though, well worth a look.

"Who Is It?" - Michael Jackson

"Have You Ever Been(To Electric Ladyland)?" - Jimi Hendrix Experience

"Ways To Be Wicked" - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
This song was a minor hit for the band Lone Justice, featuring lead vocalist Maria McKee-who come to find out is the "Maria"in Counting Crows biggest hit "Mr. Jones". Phew.

TOM RUSSELL:  "Touch Of Evil"

The night my baby left me I crossed the bridge to Juarez avenue
Like that movie "Touch of evil" I got the Orson Wells, Marlene Dietrich blues
Where Orson walks in to the whorehouse and
Marlene says "Man, you look like hell"
And Orson's chewing on a chocolate bar
As the lights go on in the old Blue Star hotel
"Read my future" says old Orson, "down inside the tea leaves of your cup"
And she says "You ain't got no future, Hank,
I believe your future's all used up"

[Chorus]
Why don't you touch me anymore? Why don't you touch me anymore?
Why do you run away and hide? You know it hurts me deep inside
Why do you close the bedroom door? This is a brutal little war
What good is all this fightin' for if you don't touch me anymore?

They shot "A touch of evil" in a Venice, California colony
And I grew near those dead canals
Where they filmed the longest pan shot ever made
Now I'm thinking about the movie, the bar I'm in, the bridge, the Rio Grande
Now I'm thinking about my baby and the borderline 'tween a woman and a man
I was drunk as Orson Wells the night I crawled backwards out the door
I was screaming "Baby, baby how come you touch me anymore?"

[Chorus]

Oh, someone rolled the credits on twenty years of love turned dark and raw
Not a technicolor love film, it's a brutal document, it's film noir
And it's all played out on a borderline and the actors are tragically miscast
Like a Mexican burlesque show where the characters are wearing comic masks
Oh, it's love and love alone I cry to the barmen in this Juarez waterhole
As we raise a glass to Orson and "A touch of evil" livin' our souls

Hello LD, working off the laptop today in sacramento downtown.  I am a non-cable/satellite person,  strictly a rabbit ears TV watcher, with a digital decoder so I can watch over the air for free.  So no HBO, although I do miss out on alot of good stuff like that stones' documentary.

I'm more angry when I miss stuff like Townshend on Letterman, like I did last night.  Damn!  Unfortunately, I pay no attention to schedules for TV, so I had no idea about the Letterman show last night.  I've been hooked lately by Jack Benny reruns, I'm ashamed to admit...

Hey ld.  How've you been?  Did you see Pete last night on Letterman?

Doing well, thanks brother. Just getting ready to host about a dozen friends and family for Thanksgiving. I'm grateful I get to spend time with them, and that we don't have to travel anywhere.  How are you? Are things getting back to normal in NYC?
I missed Pete on the Late Show. Bummer, would have taped it if I'd known he was going to be on. Will definitely be youtubing it.

I am thoroughly enjoying his bio. The development of The Who is absolutely fascinating to me. How far are you into it? I am at the part where he is discussing the evolution of writing "My Generation".
