OHL Player of the Month – Ryan Strome (Niagara IceDogs):

Ryan Strome of the Niagara IceDogs led the OHL in November scoring with 35 points in 13 games producing nine goals with a league-high 26 assists.  He also recorded the league’s best plus-minus rating with a mark of plus-18.  Strome picked up a point in all 13 games he played last Month and had 10 multi-point contests.  He is currently on a 14-game point streak which is one behind the OHL’s longest streak of the season set by rookie Connor McDavid.  Strome was twice recognized as first star of the game and received third star honours six times including back-to-back games where he recorded five-point performances.  On November 3 he scored a goal and four assists in a 9-4 win over the Guelph Storm then did the same to the Peterborough Petes on November 4 in the 6-4 victory. 

Strome, a 19-year-old from Mississauga, ON, is playing in his fourth OHL season and leads the league in scoring with 59 points in 30 games contributing 20 goals and 39 assists.  The New York Islanders prospect selected fifth overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft was also named Player of the Game for Team OHL on November 12 with a goal and an assist in the 2-1 victory over Team Russia in the 2012 SUBWAY Super Series.  A returning member of Canada’s National Junior Team, Strome will attend Canada’s Selection Camp for the 2013 World Junior Championship beginning December 10.

he feeling around the NHL labor talks has taken a complete 180 in the past couple of days to the point that people are losing the "cautious" approach in "cautious optimism." People like Sportsnet insider and former player Nick Kypreos.

Wednesday afternoon just before Gary Bettman delivered his 30-second update on the negotiations, Kypreos reported on Sportsnet TV that he's hearing a deal should be done very soon.

"Apparently Gary is ready to get a deal done," Kypreos said. "He wants this thing done Friday. Friday!"

Once again talks turn into nightmares, way to go guys. Going green, I am saving electricity from not watching my tv, since there is nothing to watch when there is no football. Feb and March Madness are gonna be brutal.

HF Prospect of the Month for November, 2012

This one was almost a no-brainer.

[Ryan Strome]’s phenomenal [performance] in the month made him the easy selection as the[Hockey’s Future] Prospect of the Month for November.

The [New York Islanders] first round, fifth-overall selection in 2011, Strome was simply dominant in 13 November games, averaging close to three points per game and picking up at least a point in all 13 of those games.

His totals were sparkling. Strome’s nine goals and 26 assists in the month has given him a[comfortable] lead in the [OHL] scoring race and has made him a top contender for CHL Player of the Year honors. His dominance also showed in the plus/minus column where he was a +18, upping his league-best total to +33. Always known as a player who makes those around him better, the 19-year-old Strome has helped linemate [Brett Ritchie] ([Dallas Stars] second round pick, 2011) become one of the top OHL scorers, with Ritchie having already established career highs in goals, assists and points. Much of the credit for Ritchie's success goes to the[elite] playmaking skills of Strome.

Up next for the highly skilled center is the 2013 U-20 World Junior Championship where he will be one of six returning players hoping to lead Canada back to a gold medal, something the team has failed to do in the past three tournaments.

Brock Nelson, C – Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL)

With six points in his past three games, Nelson is on a rampage for the Sound Tigers. The University of North Dakota alum is a top five rookie scorer in the ‘A’ with 22 points in 25 games overall. Nelson knows the game, knows where to be and has the talent to bury his opportunities when he gets them. Drafted 30th overall by the New York Islanders in 2010.
