Scouting the 2013 draft

Who the hell did Lewan go against this year...?
Although the Wolverines lost, he did just fine against Ohio State's John Simon, as well as against Alabama and Notre Dame. You want to see just how good he is, tune in to the Outback Bowl on New Year's Day when Michigan plays South Carolina and he plays against Clowney...who is the BEST DE in college...period.

I will also add that you are one of the many who've fallen for the media propaganda on the SEC, and their supposed dominance. Let me tell you this, they are, IMO, a step above the Big 10 or 12, whatever, and the ACC, but they are not a better conference than the PAC 12, top to bottom. They are essentially a 4 or 5 team conference, and then a bunch of also rans. I will also tell you the biggest busts or disappointments in the draft this year will likely come out of that confernce percentage-wise. When it comes to the next wave of dominant NFL pass rushers from this year's draft...don't look for many, if any to come from the SEC. You heard it hear first.

Here's an initial 3 round mock that includes a comp pick for VJ of mine. I'm sure a lot will change between now and draft day, but right now here's what I'm "hoping" for.

1) Taylor Lewan, OT Michigan - Fills biggest need on offense
2) Anthony Barr, OLB UCLA - Fills biggest need on defense
3) Logan Ryan, CB Rutgers - Addresses the CB issue
3 comp pick) Aaron Dobson, WR Marshall - Very similar to Floyd and I would look for him to replace Floyd after this coming season. Amazing hands and is Jerry Rice's cousin.

Scouting the 2013 draft

I already posted this but I think this thread is much more appropriate for this subject, not to mention E put a lot of good work in at the beginning that is still of great relevance.

BTW, in case anyone is interested in what my thoughts are right now, prior to the Senior Bowl and other bowl games, my college OT rankings are thus.

1 - Luke Joeckel
2 - Eric Fisher
3 - Taylor Lewan
4 - Jake Matthews
5 - Oday Aboushi

OT rankings are fine. Lets hope someone comes in with a nasty tude... IMHO there is a softness about this team that needs to be changed. When LT had his best years the line was nasty, this line looks like they want to invite the opposing defense over for girl scout cookies and tea.

Both Fisher and Lewan are known to be OL with a, as you call it..."tude."

Scouting the 2013 draft

Thank God Te'o showed what I've said all along last night. There has been a lot of clamor from fans I know about drafting him if the OTs aren't there on our pick, but hopefully his performance last night finally put an end to that ridiculous talk. He doesn't react to the run well, can't disengage once a decent OL locks up on him, and he's a weak tackler. I do not believe he falls out of the 1st round by any means, but if he goes in the top 15 I'll be very surprised. I will say Notre Dame as a whole looked either flat...or flat out over matched, and I tend to believe it was the latter based on Kelly's comments after the game.

On the other hand, if Fisher or Lewan are not there, I'd have no complaints at all with us drafting Warmack at 11.

Totally bummed to see that Jake Mathews has decided to stay in school.  How do you guys like Lane Johnson or Xavier Nixon?

I have Johnson in a cluster with Aboushi in the 2nd if we miss out on Fisher or Lewan in the 1st. Nixon is not a NFL OLT, IMHO. Perhaps ORT or G.

Pugh from Syracuse is someone I really like too. The problem is his weight. I don't know if he can stay over 300 as there were rumors he had dropped down to the 290 range during the season. On the other hand, Jim Lachey was also about his size and he was an awesome OLT. One of the stars we had back then that Spanos didn't want to pay who left and went to the Redskins with Joe Gibbs and had a number of all pro years, not to mention SBs there before retiring.
