What team has the most bandwagon fans?December 30, 2012 1:06 pm
Lakerfan32 congratulations you're a bandwagon fan. You're exactly what we are talking about. Though I guess living in SD, you have no teams. What is the nearest pro sports team near you? Why are you just a laker fan and not LA fan for all teams. You are a bandwagon fan.

The T'Wolves is the closest team in our area. But the Lakers originally came out of Minneapolis, which is one reason's I'm a Lakers fan(The T'Woles didn't exsist back in 1979 when I bacame an NBA fan). The other reason I became a Lakers fan is because of Magic Johnson, who was a rookie the year I started following the NBA. So I was a fan of the Lakers before Showtime even began. At that time, the Lakers hadn't won a Championship(or even been to the Finals) since 1972, so I'm no bandwagon fan. Obviously, you don't know what the hell you're talking about. So as I said, stick to worrying about your own team and their fan base.

I can grant you that Lakerfan32, you seem to be a solid Laker fan, but I guess you would have to be a bandwagon fan of the Braves then, how come you don't support the Twins, they had some very good teams in the '80's and '90's. RIP Kirby Puckett, Paul Molitor was great too, Jack Morris. Then you're also a Chargers fan, why not the Raiders? |

I'm still curious how everyone views a Spurs</a> fan, who spent his entire life in New York City and started liking the Spurs after they won their first title in 1999. I understand that the initial act is jumping on the bandwagon, but if this person has stuck with the Spurs to date, is this person still considered a bandwagon fan?

In my opinion it is a bandwagon fan. The only way I would give them a break is if they went to Wake Forest, and they were there the sametime as Duncan. Also they better not have been a fan of some other NBA team before. Other than that, it is bandwagon jumping.

See, I agree. Even though the original act was considered a bandwagon "jump" in 1999, the fan is still considered a bandwagon jumper in 2013, to me.
Because of that, I don't think there is any question that the Lakers have the most bandwagon fans. Every city you go to, there are lots of Laker fans. Sure, they could have tie to L.A., they might have grown up there and moved, but I have spoken to many, and the usual response is "I started watching basketball in the 80's, and it was 'Showtime' that got me hooked". Meanwhile, the dude lives in New Jersey or New York, for example. I think people might just have the definition of a bandwagon fan being the recent attachment to a franchise because that team is starting to win alot... (ex: Heat, Clippers). So I guess it all depends on what everyone's defintion of a bandwagon fan is. |

Hondo,
I'm a Braves fan because they played on TBS almost every day when I was a kid. I watched them all the time. Was a big fan of Dale Murphy. As you probably know, for the most part the Braves sucked in the late 70's and pretty much the entire decade of the 80's(sans a 1982 division title), so there is no way you can call me a bandwagon fan. I am also a fan of the Twins, but the Braves have always been my favorite. When they played each other in the '91 series(best of all-time in my opinion) I was cheering for the Braves but I admit I didn't hate seeing the Twins win. As for the Chargers, my uncle is from San Diego and got me hooked on the Chargers at a young age. They were fun to watch with Fouts and company. I've been to San Diego and LA a few times. I even got to shake hands with Magic Johnson when I was out there one time. He had a talk show that only lasted a couple of months back in like '98. I attended one of the shows and got to shake hands with him. Never forget it. Any other questions? |

I also must add since I was accused of bandwagon jumping...I'm from Cali but started watching sports in 87 consistently...at that time I made a decision...Lakers, Raiders, Kings, Dodgers, USC...since my 7th grade decision I began to hate what Davis was doing to my favorite player Marcus Allen and when Napolean Kuafman left I stopped watching and vowed to stop being a fan until Davis was gone which took like 20 years...so I began to root for Mike Anderson whom I played against in college and used them when I played Madden...but in all honesty I'd now say I am a RG3 fan so would probably go with the redskins but don't care enough to change it...as for the Nationals...I don't watch baseball at all but when Strasburg got drafted out of San Diego it caught my interest...but again I'm not a fan of baseball but of Strasburg...the other teams I was with from 87-now so if I'm a bandwagon fan I don't see how especially since 1 never won and the other hasn't won a ring since before I followed and not since...but hey you are the bandwagon police so please go easy on my sentencing...lol

Didn't want to highjack the Celtics thread...so what is fraudulent about me posting 2 teams that field 2 players in 2 sports I don't really follow...I watch USC when they play and will watch an NFL game depending on if its interesting or not.. I don't watch MLB never did...but I found myself reading and watching things Starsburg related...I've never once posted in here about either team besides now and really only follow USC and the Lakers...have flowed both since I started watching/playing sports...how is that a bandwagon fan...? On top of that nobody has won anything just prior nor since I followed either player...WCF is from Boston from his posts...and claims to be a "Suns fan"...but once Lakers fans start talking he runs and hides behind the Celtic Green...WCF stands for WildCats Fan as in Arizona Wildcats...and he goes to Clemson...ironic Wildcats have been pretty good when it comes to college hoops Clemson not so much...there's your fraud.. by the way he's the one that posted something about USC being terrible this year

I understand that the initial act is jumping on the bandwagon, but if this person has stuck with the Spurs to date, is this person still considered a bandwagon fan?It depends because the Spurs have had 16 consecutive seasons of contending for a title and have managed to win it 4 times. Who would want to leave that? We can't really know until the team sucks again. All I know from experence is that the bandwagon fans will leave and find another team while the ones who fell in love with the team will stay. Not to mention, how many of them are just Duncan or Parker or Ginobli fans? When the Suns became really good in 04-05 thanks to Steve Nash it brought a lot of bandwagon fans in. They were all there for different reasons. Some liked their unique style of play. Others liked Steve Nash. Others just liked that they were good. Some left in 08 when Marion got traded for Shaq and when Coach D resigned and the rest of the bandwagon fans were "Nash fans" and they left last year. However, some of the bandwagon fans who joined in 04 or sometime during the Suns 04-10 run fell in love with the team and became true fans. Those fans have remained past Nash's departure and are now Suns fans. |

If someone is a fan of teams of different locations wouldn't those teams have to had won more than a combined handful of championships to be considered bandwagon?
If someone is a fan of the Bronco's, Indians, Philidelphia and Carolina Hurricanes....that's not considered bandwagon in my book. But when you see Yankees and Lakers or Steelers and Red Wings,...def. bandwagon |

If a young fan(no matter where they live) becomes a fan of a team because they're a good team, I have no problem with that. But if they do, they should stick with that team through the good times and bad. If they jump ship when things aren't going well, then they are truly a bandwagon fan.

At the rate I see people jumping on the Clippers bandwagon, it will be them in a couple of years if they can stay good and maybe win a championship or two. I never seen so many Clippers fans in LA in my life. If they can go a few more years going to the finals or winning rings, then more people around the country will jump on too.
