Landry Jones - Good kid, but very skittish in the pocket with a tendancy to over throw balls. Solid QB, but not a national championship QB
Blake Bell will be interesting. He should be bring an element of toughness to the QB position. How many 3rd downs will he pick up with his legs? Thats something OU hasnt had at quarterback since maybe Jason White was running around pre blown knees. |

I will say this first. I hope I'm wrong. I think we are in big trouble next season at qb. It will be 2 to 3 seasons before we have a good qb. Landry wasn't the best we've ever had but he is worlds better than what is coming.

Landry wasn't the best we've ever had but he is worlds better than what is coming. Not if they change the play calling to match the talent they have. Shaky Jones is a horrible QB and we will see just how bad he was next season when they finally give Bell a chance. Jones just has no heart, throws off his back foot because he is scared of contact. Jones has as much responsibilty for last night as the defense. How many damned 3 and outs can you have? OU knew their only chance was to outscore A&M. We get an interception and stop them, Landry gives it right back to them. THE OFFENSE cost OU the game as much as the defense and Landry is the captain of that ship. I am so glad this guy is done at OU |

Don't forget about the 2 young QBs, Trevor Knight and Kendall Thompson, Bell may have some competition.

By the way, do any of you chaps have anything to share about Kendall Thompson? I think I recall Switzer saying he was surprised KT went to (or stayed at) OU. I remember his dad playing there in the late 80s. Quite an option qb...
Anyhow, I don't get to watch games too much, but the Sooners will always be my team, and I don't know anything really about KT. Wondering how he might fit in the scheme of a revamping season next year. |

Thompson will bea redshirt soph next season, I've only heard that he will compete for the top job, whatever that means? Knight redshirted this year and worked on the scout team and has recieved high praise from defensive players. Both are dual type QBs.

Kendal Thompson should win the QB war next spring. Bell may still get playing time but he will not be the starter. Knight ran the scout team against our weak azz defense. Of course they thought he was great! You can not get a solid hit on Thompson and he has a great arm. I know you guys don't think I know what I'm talking about but just watch and see.

OkFootball.... I agree somewhat, Perhaps this Cody Thomas will be the starter. Hope he enrolls early. I have not been impressed with Bell. He has a great arm but no direction. He is a bully with no scramble finesse. Drew is probably the best hope. May have to platoon 3 QB's during games. But again, I hope Thomas can be the man. Look what Wes Lunt did for OSU as a true Rookie. Except for injury, he could have been really special this past year. But OU has more serious problems than QB. A defense that is desimated, a coaching staff in disarray, and an offense with no direction. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know after 3 times running a delayed handoff up the middle for negative yardage, THAT IT ISN'T GOING TO WORK !!!! so, why did you run it 16 times Heupel ???? Oh, and did I mention Recruiting??? There better be 25 JUCO boys waiting for OU to sign um up, cuz what is coming in is pretty sketchy....
As I have posted over and over, I like coach Stoops, but it is time for OU and the Stoops to move on... |

OKFootball,
I will take that bet. Stoops likes experience and Bell has experience. He will be the starter. Now if he doesn't play well Thompson may get the job but I don't think he will start the first game. Why wouldnt we want a QB who is 260 lbs that linebackers wont like tackling much less safeties. All the time I hear about everyone wanting OU to be more physical well here is the chance starting next season. How many teams have know the Belldozer was coming but couldn't stop it. And Bell has gotten a lot of those yards on his own! A dual threat QB is what we need but not a rookie who has never thrown a ball in college. |

Td.... Yes, Bell is a monster, but over the last few games he was not the same as early in the season. Teams figured him out and were able to stop him most of the time. He hesitates too long when running the Belldozer. Needs to quicken it up. I don't see him being able to run out of the pocket, just too slow. The offense is spread, unless it changes, and as spread it is not good for Bell. I see him being a better pocket passer and if need be good for getting back to the line of scrimage if pocket collapses. But the key for him or anyone is to get a better play caller and offensive coordinator. Heupel is a good QB coach, but as a play caller etc., I think he is a weak link. Shutting down OU's offense in the second half should never have happened. La Tech put up 57 points on TA&M and OU managed only 13 ??? A lot of changes have to happen in this off season or next year will be a disaster. AND, it starts with the coaching staff...

Pretty sure we have a star in the wings at QB. Not sure which one. We will look a lot different next year with a QB that has quickness and can run. The good news is we will not have to watch Landry Jones again.
Do you think Bell is going to emerge as a star. Landry jones was not a bad QB, i'll take Landry over bell any day of the week. |
