I agree, Mariota is an outstanding talent, and he will get his chance soon, but it all boiled down to Manzeil beating Bama.

Nail meet head. Often, a "signature win" is what makes the difference. Example, it has been said that Matt Leinart won his Heisman from a "signature win" vs. Notre Dame.

Unfortunately for Mariota, he did not have what would really qualify as a "signature win". His 2 best opportunities were Stanford and USC. Oregon lost to Stanford and we know how USC's season turned out and why that would not be considered a "signature win"!!

Very well said TF12...

If he were to have set the world on fire vs Stanford I think he may have gotten an invite.  Johnny was a freight train this year though.  He was gonna nab the Heisman despite what anyone else did I think.

Bring Mariota to the Sec and see if those stats hold up.

BTW GB2,

Andrew Luck PAC
Russel Wilson ACC/B1G
RG3 Big 12
Kaepernick Mountain West

are all young QBs who are doing just fine and posting great stats against NFL defenses that are littered with SEC talent..

and last I checked... NFL defenses are a little better than SEC defensesSmile

Hey Dummy, that is what your coach is.  Nice play calling in the 4th quarter to lose to a basketball conference team.  At least LSU got past the 50 yard line in that game.  Keep rooting for Team SEC and sound like a dumb waterboy...cheers dooshy!

Yet as dumb as my coach is he still hung 40 points on that squad of little Duckies to beat them by 2 TDs !

Let's let history be our guide.   What happened the last time the Ducks faced a top tier SEC defense...hmmm...

Oh yeah...they lost to LSU by the score of 40 to 27 !   They didn't put up 28 then so what makes you think they would have this time ?

Oh yeah...conference wishes !!!!!

Dummy,

Interesting time to go a trolling when your team couldn't hang on the field for a quarter against Oregon.  The LSU defense Oregon lost to has been gone for years.  This years defense would have been used like a ten dollar hooker by the Ducks.

Your team was beaten by Clemson in a second tier Bowl.  Oregon is ranked ahead of every team in the SEC except Bama, and Oregon has the same number of losses as Bama did.

The difference being Oregon lost in OT to the PAC Champion and Bama lost in regulation to a team that was a mid level Big XII team playing its first season in the SEC.

LSU has fallen to the roadside since their scoreless beatdown by Bama in the NCG in the previous year.   You can sack swing on Bama's domination all you want, but everybody knows the Ducks are the only team that can hang with Bama, and we will never know if the #1 at the end of this year can beat the #2.  And, you just saw what the #2 did to #1, right?

Keep sack swinging next year as your team is not in the mix.  Oh, and I like Miles, he is serious entertainment, I can see why you guys let Saban go.

congrats ducks on your second place finish.

ED, no one said it is insignificant that the ducks ended up second or winning a BCS bowl. A few USC posters may have said it means you didn't have a great year, but the rest of us have said it was a great year, just not one for the record books. Just an opinion. Be as happy and satisfied about your season as you want. I know mamba had a great time at the game with his kids and those are memories more valuable than how much hardware the team brought home. I've had awesome days at games UW didn't win just because of the people I was with or the family who was there. This is a sport and games are events meant to be enjoyed no matter the outcome. The season is over now, put aside your hate long enough to drop the platitudes and just enjoy what was the 2012 season. It will be a long offseason and there is no reason to rehash this same nonsense over and over until fall camp.

Oregon and Stanford had great years and both still have a lot to look forward to next season. A few Pac programs saw real advancement this year and have every right to be optimistic that next season will see more improvement. Even the programs that were down have made enough changes to give hope that next year will swing back in the right direction. No matter what you think of your teams chances next year it is true that anything is possible at this point.

What I know about next year is Seattle will once again have the best view from their home stadium in the Pac and will have an outstanding new venue to host games and tailgate in and every game I get to attend will be awesome because of it. We have reason to believe things will improve next year, but no onw knows for sure until the games are played. That is part of the game.

I will mothball my hate of the ducks for now and resist the urge to call them names until someone forces me to pull it back out again. We are all Pac brothers/sisters and have our love of college football in common. I say it is time to celebrate that for at least a week before spitting out more taunting.

Oh, and as for the how everyone in the conference finished their ranks as a representation of the rest of us? I think we have been over that, but who the hell cares lol. Again, the only fans who really should care about the ranks of the rest of the conference are any on a run who need help from their conference schedule's strength. What? all two of you this year? Well, scratch that as Stanford got their CCT and RB bids no matter what their SoS was so only one team cared.

To everyone else, enjoy the offseason. No matter how we taunt during the year I hope you all have a happy and healthy year with your loved ones.

Well said Wiz, bravo!! For the record, I think that the Ducks had a great year, just as you said, not one for the record books. Still, if that had been USC's year.......you wouldn't hear me complaining about it.

Look forward to the off-season to see what happens and how our teams all try to get better. I look forward to Spring and will likely take my son to USC's spring game as we had a blast at the last one.

August sure does seem a long ways away though!!Laughing

If you don't get the nickname then you are very dense.  I mean really fella....he plays football...they call him Johnny Football because he plays it so well.  He is "football" !

A couple questions

who had the higher completion %??  Mariota
Who had the better overall QB rating?? Mariota
Touchodwns vs INT?? Mariota 32 vs 6 Manziel 26 vs 9
who won more games? Mariota

But I would guess Manziel is the better scrambler... what? no?
Sacked 22 times Mariota only 17.

Regardless of stats, I'd opine that if you put JM in Oregon's offense, I'd bet he'd do better than MM.

Johnny Football decomitted from Oregon because he knew that a bigger, stronger, better armed QB whom is just as fast was in his same recruiting class.

Johnny woulda been on the pines at Oregon if he wanted to be a QB....

Your opinion and as stated before that's what message boards are for. Maybe Sumlin and his staff are just better at elevating QB talent or maybe JM was juat a perfect fit what the team/scheme they had at TAMU this year.

No No No.

Johnny is the most electric player in CFB and I mean that.  His talent is off the charts.

I do think Super Mario-TA is the better [layer long term.

If one is to deny Johnny's talents they certainly arent paying attention.  Kid is the real deal....

2 losses in 1st year of freakin SEC play???? WOW!  Nobody and I mean NOBODY saw that coming.

Johnny has aTm as real legitimate NATTY contenders for the 2013 season...

As does Super Mario-TA led Ducks

With Manziel and Marriota, it must also be remembered that Texas A&M is more dependent on Manziel than Oregon is on Marriota. Marriota, with the way he played this year, may well have been a Heisman candidate himself. However, Oregon also had De' Anthony Thomas and Kenjon Barner that he was sharing the spotlight with.

I also think that there is so much fascination with Oregon's "system" that it actually works against their players when being considered for individual awards because many think it's a product of the "system" rather than the fact that those are some darn good players.

TF12,

I agree with you in the system thing.  I think eventually Super Mario-TA will seperate himself from that popular belief.

He is a really good QB.  I think he could be a good NFL player.  I think he could do what Kaepernick is doing possibly....  MAybe more if he gets a good HC in the NFL....

Mamba, I agree, the kid can flat out play and I think he will eventually seperate himself from the system. Right now, it's easy to overlook him because of the system, DAT, Barner and the fact that he's a freshman!! But within the next couple of years, people will start to see just how good he really is!!

What's your problem man? I put aside my hate for the ducks long enough to congratulate them on their season and #2 finish and you call me names? Did you read the part where I said specifically I know you had a great time at your bowl game with your kids and that was special? I didn't even slam ED who pretty much does so to me every chance he gets, but rather wished him and the rest of the Pac posters a great offseason and you respond with that?

I haven't got into things much with you directly mostly because you have at times said some kind things and I take note of that no matter what fan base they are in. I stayed out of your name calling to other UW fans. Now you call me rude names when I'm trying to call a truce for the offseason?

We were having fun at out own expenses on  a thread created by nlburrow called your troll Pet name.  It was basically a "give good posters troll names" thread.  To join the actuall trolls pet names like allblowing, c@sshole****, buttshave, and shortbus....  I had to try urs out.  SHoulda explained myself.   i was TightMomma and WhiteLarva.  IronHorse was IronWhores...  There were many good ones....  Just having fun but like I said I certainly shoulda explained myself.

They moved the thread to that toxic waste dump of a message board for Star Wars nerds OFF TOPIC....

I hope you see the humor in this as it was not intended to be malicious....  You know I like to agrue with you but I do have respect for your vast amount of football knowledge.  No hard feelings....
