I hate when coaches already have their minds made up about the lines. Granted Babcock knows most of his players but who's to say that someone won't come in and knock his socks off and has drastically be improved or slowed down? Not to mention he's never even coached Brunner.

matty, let's see what happens. i think there's a lot of difference between "i'm gonna play these guys together" and "i'm gonna play these guys together regardless of what happens, and i'll never change my mind about it". ;)

he's got to start somewhere. since he's never coached brunner, what should he do? just let him sit on the bench?

I'm a fan of Eaves gutsy playing style too. Wings PK was a rancid 18th last season without him.

Patrick Eaves has been cleared for contact, though even Eaves isn't sure whether his post-concussive headaches are gone for good:

"It felt good, and I can do whatever we do out there," Eaves said. "It's more than anything I could have done out there a little while ago. It's a step forward and I just have to keep making progress."

Tom Renney as our new associate coach, a title that previously was just called "assistant coach" hopefully allows him to make changes to our crappy PP 22nd ranked last year and PK units. This team will miss the playoffs if they can't improve their special team units.

We haven't had a pest that buzzed around the ice since I think Sean Avery was a Wing briefly. Looking forward to Tootoo running clowns wreaking havoc.

Read Ilitch waving ticketmaster fees for Wings games sold in first 36 hours, boo. I don't buy my tickets from those price gouging crooks named ticketmaster so this news means nothing to me.
No news yet on free NHL Centre Ice. Owners and NHL front office  still owe us fans a lot more than ticket price fees and weak sorry.

Tom Renney as our new associate coach,
I should have talked about this hire more.

The guy has never finished above 3rd in his division.   He has one only 2 career playoff series.   He moved the Oilers from fun bad to crap on skates.    I'm not sure how he's been able to hang around the league behind a bench for so long.    Seems like the type of resume that gets a guy moved to a different front office position or something.

Anyway, maybe he could help out the special teams, but I'm not sure I would want a guy that's been around egos and kids to an organization of true professionals.

The Red Wings and their AHL-affiliate, Grand Rapids Griffins, will hold a Red-White scrimmage on Tuesday night, which is free to the public, at 3,500-seat Compuware Arena in suburban Detroit.

The scrimmage will feature 38 players – that’s 19 on each squad – from the parent club as well as minor-leaguers, who have played this season in the American Hockey League.(DetroitRedWings.com)

Sounds like some fun to me. Hope none of the Griffins injure any Red Wings. That would not be cool.

LOL...Yes, I was refering to the future vs. the current parent club members.

'Z' gets the 'C'. Only the 3rd team captain the Wings have had since 1986...36th over-all.

Now...beat the Blues this Saturday.

After pulling a muscle in his back Thursday, Darren Helm has not been on the ice again with his teammates. With Helm likely unavailable, Justin Abdelkader is expected to center the Wings' checking line against the Blues on Saturday.

I expect Kronwall to get hurt after a fluky year of great health.    Excellent player, but I don't trust him to be close to 100% for the whole year.    Shortened year is going to hurt him too, he gets some bad bumps and bruises from lining people up for cheap shots.

Helm is flat out speedy.

I need Kronwall to succeed for personal nerdy fantasy hockey reasons. if it makes you feel better, i'd also like to see Stalberg break out as i have him as a reserve. i know. i know. nerd alert.

look, i only do hockey if that helps. probably doesn't

I think Kronner will have a decent year.  He'll be on the top PP unit, which should help.  If Sammy can't go for the first few games, I'll be interested to see who Babs put at the other point?  Brendan Smith

If Kronwall is paired with Ericsson at even-strength as has been reported, it may help rein in his play a bit.  As a top-pairing defenceman, I would imagine it has been stressed to him the importance of playing position as opposed to going for the huge hit.  Will that stop him?  Not a chance...but it may make him choose his spots a bit more.

One potential negative...in two of the last three years his shooting percentage has been over 10%.  Can he sustain that?  If not, his goals may dip a bit, but he should make up for that in assists.

Ok, the Wings played pretty badly, but the Griffins more than made up for it . 11- 6 win and a full on bench clearing brawl with the goalies fighting too . I wonder how much the pink jerseys came into play .

I saw that lil fight. Det looked like it was a preseason game. They had no idea of where their teammate was going to be. It was a total debacle. Sad to watch. UInless you are a Blue's fan. Even still Det offered nothing offensively or defensively. It looked like the Globetrotters and the Generals.

Only a few Wings played in a league prior to the CBA signing, maybe 5 or 6 of everyone who dressed yesterday.    It'll take a couple weeks to get into game shape, hopefully they don't miss out on too many points prior to then.    Anyway, I think Detroit is going to have at least 2 or 3 more stinkers before mid-Feb, but I'm not going to read much into them.

Postgame interviews were not much better than the game. Kronwall answered questioned sounding embarressed and basically apologizing for the teams effort.

Eaves starting tonight vs the bj's Mursak out. Ericsson is fine and can play but THE MONSTER tweaked his groin and says he won't be able to play for a few games...whatever.
McCollum called up to back up Howie which scares me since he is far from NHL ready imo. The Griffins goalie that got pummelled is more NHL ready me thinks at least from his OHL games I've seen him in.

Tootoo running Boll and Dorsett should be fun to watch.

Who is going to lead the bjs in scoring now that Nash is gone? Jack Johnson their defenseman, lol.

Kenny should call up Tatar. Read he was one of the Griffins that started that donnybrook in Rockford and he's a little guy.
