Interesting question.  I'll admit I found it odd that this movie drew so much criticism for use of the n----word.  Though maybe I have some of the criticism wrong too - wasn't it because 1) how the movie depicted slavery and 2) how white folks were using the n-word?

I have no idea about #1, not having seen it.  But #2... did none of these people see Pulp Fiction?  Tarantino himself uses the word like 4-5 times.

But again, I might have the specific complaints not exactly as they were put forth, only having heard them 2nd and 3rd hand.

I did not like Jackson's character.  I liked his acting, but hated his character.

Haven't seen it either yet. I did see DeathProof for the first time a few days ago on pay-per-view. That was a bit of a letddown.

as for the Lance Armstrong brouhaha ,

he , like Rose, Joe Jackson, Clemens , Bonds, McGwire , Sosa , Palmeiro ...  will have to build their own hall of fame.

I'd go see it, some of the greatest players in sport will be there. Soon I can field a lineup with these guys and beat any other tem out there. 

Look at the talent above, they won the battles, set the records, and gained massive fame and fortune where others did not. Was that their crime? That they were better cheaters than the others? We're to sit in judgement and deny sure fire first ballot HoFers because of that?

...no I'm not a voter, just a fan of the game, and someone with an opinion....we all know the numbers say they are all HOF'ers, Rose maybe the greatest player ever to some, but it doesn't mean he has to get the ceremony, his bust on the wall, and a HOF jacket before he dies either...he did serious damage to himself, the game of baseball, and he disappointed tons of fans of the game...so there is a penalty to pay...more than the actual indiscretions that were a real problem, its the lying about it for so long, and the arrogance that has been displayed that folks have issue with most...for the steroid crowd, those that admitted to using, offered a sincere public apology, and showed contrition, many folks have moved on from them....but for the Lance Armstrong types, that have remained defiant and continued the lies for years as if everyone is stupid, well folks will never forget that, and will never fully excuse that type of behavior, and never see that individual as someone deserving the highest honor...if you can't rightfully honor your sport, your game , your fellow competitors, with TRUTH about what you did, and why you did it, then why should the governing body of said sport, and the voters, HONOR you???...if Mike Vick doesn't come clean, in the full way that he did, he never gets back into the league, he continues to be the most hated, the most despised, etc...but 3-4 years later , by telling the truth about what he was involved in, he's now better for it, and people have for the most part, moved on and have allowed him to get on with his life.. 

...if Bonds or Clemens or any of the others had simply said, hey guys, I USED, we were all using this stuff, it gave us all an advantage, and though we all knew it was wrong, we did it, and I'M SORRY, becasue we know, in the end we disappointed all of you, it hurt the game, and its unfair to the guys that have played the game clean and with honor...the steroids worked, it made us better, bigger, faster, stronger, it allowed us to put on a great show that you guys love to see...and since it wasn't against the rule at the times, we all did it.....had that been said, all would have been forgiven, instead we got, lies and unbelievable testimony, and trials, and a big mess that could have been prevented...

Players like them, Sosa and McGwire were all great players and I would say their steroid use did not make them great, they were already there.

A great memory, so what do I care that he cheated to be able to do that? He hit that ball I'll never forget and for that I thank him. I'm not going to get down on the guy because he used steroids to get better.

..sorry, but Rose, McGwire, Clemens , Bonds, lose the most....every one of those guys want to be recognized by the Hall as one of the all time greats, its what you play for...but without the ceremony and without your name on the wall, you aren't there...they are not HOF'ers until they get the votes...PERIOD....Barry Larkin going in last year didn't do anything for me or the fans, it was a validation for Barry Larkin...it tells him WE think you're one of the best ever...and once you're in, you're in, no one can take it away...don't tell me Rose , Bonds and Clemens don't care one way or the other....they didn't put in 15-20 years of hard work, just to be left out of the party, and forever looked upon "negatively" first, then their highlights mantioned later...they didn't play the way they did to be brought up every year as an asterisk, and having their past wrongs continually being brought up...but thats the price they must pay, given the choices they made to cheat and to lie about it...

....big deal, he hit a ball a long way...if the all time homerun leader (Aaron) did it in a fair way, and another guy comes along and does it in a less fair way, then yes, I have a problem with it...this isn't about changes in the game that changed the record books, like lenghth of season, 14 games a season vs 16 games a season, or 156 vs. 162, or extended playoff games, smaller parks, etc....it was about individuals using PEDS which we know was not fair going back to Olympics of the 70's and 80's, when athletes skills dramatically changed, and the reocrds books changed...and we protested greatly about those athletes and stripped the records and titles...whats the difference here?? ....I suppose you're ok with Armstrong using, and lying too, because he did something great huh??

Great, they were very good without the PEDS, like most of the greats of the past....would MCGwire, Sosa, Palmeiro have been in consideration before or without using??....sorry, but Bonds and Clemens get lumped in with all the rest...and sure we know they would have put up great numbers without, although Bonds probably doesn't play as long or get anywhere near Hank's mark, but its the defiance, and continually lying about it, that makes folks come down so hard on them today...we come down hardest on our kids, not for making mistakes, or doing or saying something stupid, but for LYING ABOUT IT...we all knew A-Rod would shatter the HR mark, with 800+ years ago, right?..anyone still on that bandwagon??...

As for the rest, you make some good points, but I am sorry - any HoF without Bonds Rose McGwire Sosa (3 of the top ten HR hitters, and Hitking) is not legitimate. No matter the reason they are there or not.

Thomas once spoke out loud about  refusing to take his drug test in an effort to trigger mandatory testing for the rest of his teammates   ----  he eventually relented so the issue never became too well known.

dude, you lost all credibility with this statement...lol...there have been some crazy arguments offered in this thread, but this one borders on one of the worst ever...it makes absolutely no sense at all...

Yet let Hank Aaron juice up the way Bonds did and he would likely have far more HRs than Bonds.  The 'roids completely tainted the integrity of baseball.  I can hardly stand to watch MLB anymore.  This whole 'roid mess should have been squashed from the beginning and was allowed to carry on for far too long.  Since the commish decided to turn a blind eye because of the popularity of all the ridiculous HR records being set...the abomination continued.

Now the mess is too big to clean up and the MLB HOF will always be a huge question mark.
