Two of my all-time favorite Petty tunes, and obscure ones at that. I love him for the same reason I love alot of my favorite rock artists-his catalog is so deep he has absolutely amazing songs that you forget about because there are so many good ones to choose from.

"Rainbow In The Dark" - Dio

"Star 69" - R.E.M.

"Shame In You" - Alice In Chains

Mine too, LD.  I remember when his first record (this one) was released, it sounded like it had been recorded in a single take. And he sounded so pissed-off, and the smirk on his face on the cover.  It was awesome stuff from the first time I saw and heard it.

seemed so logical, the Twilley following the Petty I mean.  I see alot of similarities in the crazygood musical times of the mid-to-late 70s and the current musical scene, esspecially in the South and in LA in particular.  So many great young groups playing all sorts of good stuff.  SF seems to have been left behind as a vanguard of the musical world...Bill Graham has never been replaced as a promoter of new music around here.

Koy, the firest time I ever heard "Breakdown"  by TP was on a Friday Afternoon, probably in '76 or '77.  That same afternoon, I bought a copy of Creem magazine, which had a story about TP, along with a picture of him in a bloack jumpsuit.  The jumpsuit featured the logo that appears on the cover of the first album, an arrow-shaped guitar piercing a heart.

The next day I was watching Saturday morning cartoons; at that time, CBS had a live-action comedy/variety show on Saturday mornings called Wacko.  The musical  guest that day was Dwight Twilley Band.  I was shocked to see that Tom Petty was onstage playing guitar, dressed in the exact same jumpsuit as in the magazine, complete with arrow-heart logo!

Creem magazine

Yeah, Boy Howdy!  Lester Bangs used to put out a really good mag back then, Crawdaddy was another one I used to chase around looking for.  Believe me, finding info in Moscow Idaho before the days of cable or internet was tough!  I used to have to read Billboard Magazine, for crying out loud!  And then walk in the snow to and from  school!

Ahhhhhh, good ol' Creem magazine. I am not ashamed to admit as a metalhead that I also read Circus Magazine and Hit Parader.

"Tell Me Baby" - Red Hot Chili Peppers

"Come Rain Or Come Shine" - B.B. King and Eric Clapton
Very excited for middle of next month-a good friend is taking me to see B.B. King. Never seen him, and I'm thinking if I don't go soon I won't have the chance. Looking forward to seeing him do his thang with Lucille!

Love Snake Farm,  and the CD is OK by me, also.  I haven't heard Ray Wylie Hubbard's version, though. Hello Rock.
