What Jay is saying is right.  The fit of the club is by far the most important thing, and you need a pro to help you with it.

The loft is actually the last thing that should be done in the fitting.  The loft you need will be dictated by many things.

For example, anyone can look at my driver and see that I play an 8.5 degree loft.  Well, not true.  My shaft is x-stiff, with a high kickpoint.  Also, my driver is 3/4 of an inch shorter than standard (which raises the kickpoint even more).  Also, my driver head has a high center of gravity.  Finally, my clubface is 1 degree open, which makes it (counter to popular belief) actually play 1 degree lower.

With all this into account, I am effectively playing with about 6 degrees of loft.

No way you can figure all this out without a pro helping you.

Hizzle, based on what you said above I'm hoping you're a single digit with a club head speed above 100mph (in the 110mph range???)!!!!

I'm curious, what's your launch angle?  Hopefully its somewhere around 10-12 degrees!!!!

As I and Hizzle have both eluded too. loft and shaft flex are crucial to longer drives.

Regardless of these two factors, you're looking for a launch angle of roughly 12-14 degrees with a spin rate of somewhere between 2800-3200 rpms....whatever shaft and loft combination gives you these numbers is what you're looking for!!!

You really can't get the right club for you unless you get professional help.  The golf pro at the course I used to play (granted it was a 9 holer and I am not a good golfer) had me get Ping's and set me up with his clubs... As soon as I switched to the driver he recommended I hit the driver really well... Granted now I haven't played in a while and my game is terrible but I still recommend getting help.

It's honestly been about 5-6 years since I hit on a monitor. My speed was around 114-117. My spin was the only thing that was a little low around 2500ish. But I found that I have to use a higher kick point or timing is off. They tried to talk me into going a degree higher but I was stubborn.
