Carving up Pats D has made Flacco elite? When I think of top QBs like Brady, Rodgers, Ben, Peyton.....Flacco comes to my mind as well.

The stats don’t lie. I mean today's game 3 TD 0 INT. I mean it doesn’t look pretty when you see him play. But, damn this guy gets it done. I became a believer last week with that 70 yard bomb.

exactly .... Ravens went to the spread and J.Flacco carved up the Pats ... if P.Manning 9 playoff wins and 1 SB is ELITE then WHEN the RAVENS win THIS SB J.Flacco is ELITE (though to me he already is).... he will have 9 playoff wins and 1 SB ring

The Ravens have won a playoff game every year with Flacco as QB. Can't say that about Brady, Manning, Rodgers, or any of the others listed.

The word elite is thrown around too loosely with no clear definition.

He played well and has a lot of good playoff performances now but has yet to win a Superbowl.

That is the only thing definitive.  He's only elite among QB's who have not won a conference championship, since he has.

he just won a conference championship .... Pats now 67-1 when leading at home at hf... ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO A END... outscored 21-0 in the 2nd hf .. BTW Ravens DEFENSE WAS AGAIN FANTASTIC.... beating LUCK,P.Manning and Brady ... only I THUNK IT

Quote the whole sentence, then learn to read.

I said since he has won one, he is only elite amongst QB's who have not won a conferenece championship.  He still has not won a superbowl.  so he can't be considered elite amongst QB's who HAVE won a superbowl.

So Flacco is not elite compared to Trent Dilfer? Wow. I guess Dan Marino was never an elite QB either. Rings are team accomplishments, and can be won by a kicker, as Brady has enjoyed for 2 of his 3 rings.

This is why I hate the word elite in the NFL.  It's thrown around way too loosely and with reckless abandon every time a QB performs at an elite level in the playoffs.  Career performance to date?  Disregarded.  Mediocre seasons?  Forgotten.  It was foolish to attach the elite label to Eli Manning and it's foolish to attach it to Joe Flacco.  They're both good QBs who can play great at times but they're also very inconsistent.  Neither one of them belongs in the same tier that's occupied by Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Drew Brees.  Too say (or even think) otherwise is abject homerism and idiocy.

With that said, congratulations to both the Ravens and the 49ers.  Harbaugh vs Harbaugh, the last hurrah for Ray Lewis, and SF going for #6 with a quarterback who wasn't the starter when the season began will make for plenty of interesting storylines leading up to the big dance.  Let's not ruin it with foolish talk.

sorry bro YOU place alot of emphasis on reg season stats without taking into accout the division and actual schedule of the team .. EX: P.Manning the Broncos beat 2 teams with winning records Bengals and the Ravens and played in a awful division.. in the playoffs you play good/winning teams every round P.Manning is 9-11 with a SB ring .. J.Flacco is 8-4 including 6 road wins and when the Ravens beat the 49ers  J.Flacco will be 9-4 with 6 road wins and a SB ring so how will P.Manning be ELITE but not Flacco?....

Probably has to do with Manning's four MVP's, Super Bowl win, Super Bowl MVP, 49 TDs, countless 4,000 yard seasons, one of the highest ratings of all time, most Pro Bowls for a QB.

And this is from somebody who hates the guy.

i'll break this down for you 4 MVP's ?... look at the division he's been in its a qb league he's faced Jacksonville (M.Brunell and David Garrad,) Tenn (Steve McNair,Vince Young), Houston (Scuab,D.Carr))... SB Win (Rex Grossman)... SB MVP (he was awful and didn't deserve it) ... 49 TDS (again look at the division and NFL rules ) ... 4,000 yrd seasons (NFL rules )... you make your money in the reg season you build your legacy in the playoffs ... he's 9-11 with 8 playoff seasons of 1 and done... JUST THE FACTS

It's not like he was doing this when there were 10 other guys posting such high numbers like they were last year or the year before, he was doing this consistently when only 1 or 2 guys a year were hitting the 4000 yard mark, when only a handful were reaching the 30 td plateau.  The league now is not the league from even 6-7 years ago.  The landscape has changed dramatically in the past 5 years.

Like another poster said, you're a joke. Please go join the Giants fans who think everything that defines a QB is about the post-season. Sorry to tell you this, but the post-season makes up three to four games a year... Hardly 20% of the season. Sure the playoffs are a bit tougher to win in, but regular season wins don't come easy either... But to ask how Peyton Manning is elite and how Joe Flacco is not based on their playoffs records is a pretty stupid question. Joe Flacco may very well end up getting his first ring in a couple of weeks, and may very well push his QB ranking up past Eli Manning with that ring, Joe is definitely not an elite QB. Being elite is based off of pure skill.

Broncos won 13 reg season gms 2 vs teams above .500 so playoff wins are MUCH tougher because you play only winning teams (except 7-9 seattle a couple yrs ago)

He is NOT elite.

Being elite is a mix of team success and own stats. Flacco's most TDs in a season is 25 touchdowns and he hasn't reached 4000 yards. He also hasn't won a Super Bowl. He can become elite if he wins the Super Bowl.

5 of the current QBs that have won the Super Bowl (both Mannings, Brees, Rodgers, Brady) each have better stats than Flacco. Roethlisberger doesn't have good stats but he's won 2 and been to another so I'd put him as elite for that.

I don't think a QB who wins the Super Bowl is automatically elite, so if Kaepernick wins, I wouldn't put him there. But I'd put Flacco currently as the 7th best QB in the NFL after the 6 current QBs who have won the Super Bowl.

Of course, we can't always go by wins. If the Saints had better defense, Brees probably could've been to at least one more Super Bowl. Flacco's wins are supported by the Ravens having a good defense.

Mark Sanchez led his team to two AFC conference championship games, so is he close to elite status? I don't think so.
Flacco is basically just a little bit better than Matt Hasselbeck. Hasselbeck has been to a Super Bowl, 5 playoff wins total and has stats that are similar to Flacco.
