If Holland is looking for D help telling him to call Shero. The Penguins are carrying 8 right now on the NHL roster and lost one the other day trying to sneaky him through waivers which had about a 2% chance of happening. The 2 heathy scratches probably wouldn't clear waivers either so they are kind of in limbo. 6'4" 215 lbs, 23 years old Robert Burtuzzo is one of the scratches. Nice defensive defenseman who is ready for the 3rd pairing now and might be able to work as a 2nd pairing if he has the right partner and the team absolutely needed it, but that would be a bit of stretch at this point in his development. The other is 6'2" 215lbs, 28 year old Ben Lovejoy who I would say is a good 6/7 d-man. I don't think it would cost to much to get Lovejoy. Burtuzzo would cost more since he is younger and higher upside. However I wouldn't be shocked to see Shero send Despres down since he doesn't have to clear waivers soon and switch Burtuzzo/Lovejoy in and out of the line up at that spot. Despres is only averaging 10 minutes of ice time so he would be better off developing at the AHL and playing 20+ minutes in all situations. But down at the AHL level the Baby Penguins have been rotating defenseman in and out of the game day roster since there is a logjam of talent there as well. The Penguins might not have very many forward prospect close to being ready, but defense is the complete opposite of that.
