Broncos reportedly interested in Derrelle Revis?January 26, 2013 3:54 pm
Oh, forgot another gem. You argued with me a couple of seasons ago when I said that Mark Sanchez sucked and was a turnover machine. That was classic. And when it comes to that and your made up generalities about the Jets cap situation, aren't you from the area? Do you even pay attention to what's going on around you? Jeez.

There is more insight to this possible trade fromnm the posters on this board then I have read online or heard on TV or radio.
For example, this NFL.com article is what any average fan has said about moving Champ to safety since Namhdi was available. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10 00000130940/article/darrelle-revis- which-teams-will-go-after-jets-cb?campaign=Facebook_atl_rosenthal [Denver Broncos]: John Elway is in win-now mode because of[Peyton Manning]'s age and doesn't seem afraid to make a bold mood. With promising youngster [Chris Harris] in place, the[Broncos] would have a nice-looking secondary. [Champ Bailey]could potentially move to free safety. It's all speculation at this point but there are lots of factors to consider. Salary Cap, resign key players to contracts, Free Agency, etc. Would I like the Broncos to sign Revis? Of course. Just not sure we can afford it and don't think it is the biggest priority. |

My favorite part of the article.
The next three names were mentioned by Mike Freeman as teams that are "highly interested" so they make a great starting point for the following irresponsible speculation and dot connecting: |

I agree Morph. I'd love to have him too but signing our key FAs is priority #1. After that, with the cap room left, we have to sign whoever we end up drafting. Sure it could be chump change if we were to deal away a 1st and possibly 2nd or 3rd but it leaves us with little room. Can it be done? I think so but we'd also have to lock up a lot of money in extending Revis and what about any other FAs we may be looking at? I think it's a HUGE gamble unless we were able to restructure a few contracts including Dooms. Who knows. On the surface it looks dicey.

Honestly, the only free agents that I'm at all for signing are Bannan and Vickerson (with one year deals, two at the most).. With a priority on; Clady, Unrein, Carter, and Colquitt. IMO we should have enough to fill any other need through the draft or our own developmental players. In order to keep a responsible cap number we need to keep on building through the draft and resigning our own star players.
Another point I would like to make is the possible dead money that will be on the books for the next few years.. From my understanding the dead money also follows with trades too. So if for instance, Kuper was traded we would have dead money in terms of his contract for the next few years. Andre Caldwell 1 million C.J. Davis 555,000 Mario Fannin 483,000 Caleb Hanie 1.25 million Joe Mays 4.167 million, 4.6 million Julius Thomas 651,000, 741,000 Manny Ramirez 715,000 Chris Kuper 5,915,000, 6,415,000, 6,915,000 D.J. Williams 7,732,500 Plus the 4.1 million in dead money already. This is unless they can restructure some of these contracts. |

It's only dead $ if they cut them or trade them. If the Broncos don't do either to any of the above the dead money issue is irrelevant. The real issue is cap savings vs dead $. If the corridor is big enough then the dead $ issue is a non issue. I haven't researched each player you listed but only DJ, Kuper and Mays look like possible problems based on the amounts you provided. Keep in mind that the bulk of dead money the Broncos carried leaves the books after the Super Bowl. The only dead $ I see for 2013 is Goodman, Paxton, Coffey, Miller and Remers.
