We can all agree that Ray is one of the best LB's to ever play the game and he's going to be a first ballot HoFer, but all attempts to make him 'better' than either Butkus or L.T have been shot down.Really...do explain. Dick Butkus according to Pro Football Reference had 22 interceptions from 1965 to 1973 in a time where linebackers stood their ground and hit people. According to this same source he had ZERO sacks and ZERO forced fumbles so in reference he was a 1 dimensional player. On 1 ocassion has he been in the top 10 of players in a single year. Ray Lewis revolutionized the game through sheer raw determination and a keen eye for the game. Ray in his 17 years according to Pro-football Reference has 41.5 sacks....31 INTs and 19 forced fumbles and 3 TDs. Ray has been in the top 10 of players 6 times. The game has changed drastically from when Butkus played to now. The pace, the passing complexity and the speed of it....Ray even though he is 37 years old has stayed with it and has taken his team to the big game twice. |

Love how this kid keeps deflecting. He said L.T. never won a ring, he said L.T never had any fored fumbles. Both those things mean he never saw the man play. L.T. was bigger than Ray Lewis in his day - the man had *that* much impact. So anyone that saw this man play would never say he had no forced fumbles. RM never saw him play therefore he's a puppy. He's about 12. Probably started watching football just a few years ago. There's just no way - NO WAY - anyone that saw L.T. play would say he never had any forced fumbles. We know better because we saw him make them.

According to this same source he had ZERO sacks That might be attributed to the fact that the QB sack did not become an official stat until 1982, long after Butkus had retired. I remember him absolutely leveling Unitas during a game, probably in 66 or 67. |
