Nice choice Rhino.

When your spine is cracking and your hands, they shake,
Heart is bursting and you butt's gonna break.
Your woman's cussing, you can hear her scream,
You feel like murder in the first degree.

Going into the 90s for this one.  The artist is primarily associated with the 60s and 70s.

You wanna make Van Goghs
Raise 'em up like sheep
Make 'em out of Eskimos
And women if you please
Make 'em nice and normal
Make 'em nice and neat

Going to the 80s for this connection:

I went to the doctor, I went to the mountains
I looked to the children, I drank from the fountain
There's more than one answer to these questions
pointing me in crooked line

Closer To Fine - Indigo Girls.

Rhino, I think Turbulent Indigo, while very melancholy, is one of Joni's better albums.  She was (and still is, I believe) very jaded with the male-dominated recording industry, and the lack of recognition she received as one of the most influential recording artists out there.

I think the following lyrics from the song Sex Kills exemplifies her frustration.

I pulled up behind a Cadillac;
We were waiting for the light;
And I took a look at his license plate-
It said, "Just Ice."
Is justice just ice?
Governed by greed and lust?
Just the strong doing what they can
And the weak suffering what they must?
And the gas leaks
And the oil spills
And sex sells everything
And sex kills ...
Sex kills ...

Great point, mj!
I like that parrt of her songwriting - shows lots of edginess!
Kinda like Alannis did - to a much smaller degree - on Jagged Little Pill.

This connection is too good to pass up:
You were the restless one
And you did not care that
I was the trouble boy
Lookin' for a double dare
I won't apologize for the
Things I've done and said

Hi Slip!
I'm glad to hear that all is going well on your trip.
Are you looking forward to coming home?
Or wishing you had more time there?

I am doing excellent - in spite of the cold winter.
We have had quite a bit more snow than last year but it sounds like the East Coast has had it much worse than us!
Good luck to them with digging out of this latest blast!

This next song is definitely a "mood" song and on my recent trip to New York City I put this one on the iPod and had a nice evening stroll through Manhattan.

Hey vibes man, hey jazz man, play me your serenade
Any deeper blue and you're playin' in your grave
Save your notes, don't spend 'em on the blues boy
Save your notes, don't spend 'em on the darlin' yearlin' sharp boy
