"Graves is 9th on the all-time list in games played (772), third in goals (280), 10th in points (507), 8th in penalty minutes (810), and second in single-season goals (52) with the Rangers."Fair enough. |

Speaking of diving. Edzo is getting a little goofy lately. He suggested that to rid diving they only penalize the diver, not the initial offender, I laughed. I thought it's a fun idea, but something tells me that's not going to happen.
Which Atlantic team leads the universe in dives this year? |

Retiring Graves number is the equivalent of retiring Pascal Dupuis or Chris Kunitz. Or Tyler Kennedy
That comparison may be the stupidest thing I ever read here. That says a whole lot. And why the hell do you even care what numbers the Rangers retire? And while I know Graves was no Syl Apps, we still love him. |

I kind of hope to see Jagr hanging from the rafters in Pittsburgh one day. Not his jersey, but his actual body.

I hope that is not the prevailing opinion in Pitt about Jagr. |

Y'know, even though hes gone, I think Philly likes Jagr more than Pittsburgh at this point. Trippy.

Retiring Graves number is the equivalent of retiring Pascal Dupuis or Chris Kunitz. Or Tyler Kennedy NYR2206 you shouldn't be responding to morons. Anybody who compares what Graves accomplished in his career to any of the players that guy listed is on some serious drugs or simply the biggest fool on the planet. Adam Graves was an excellent all around player who did a lot of great things in the NHL. He could score goals, pass the puck, play on the PP, kill penalties, check,,,, whatever you wanted him to do is what he did. One of those guys his peers never complained about and somebody people were happy to call their teammate. Off the ice he was nothing but a good ambassador for the game of hockey and helped a lot of people. Retiring his shirt makes perfect sense. Unless of course somebody doesn't know the difference between Tyler Kennedy and Adam Graves. In that case no, it doesn't make sense because anybody who makes that comparison really doesn't get it. |

Funny. This ended up being a Pens Ranger Flyer thread.
For what it's worth, Mike Bullard learned to dive for years in Pittsburgh before he played a couple years as a Flyer. DiStallone, I brought up the Boyle dive to point out that the Rangers dive as recently as their very last game. 6'8" Boyle. Down like a Douglas Fir in an Oregon clear-cut. Besides, I picked Graves out of a hat. Mostly because he has a face like a d-bag. I could have inserted 100 other names. I figured I'd pick a player from the height of their existence. |

Having Graves number retiring would be like the Penguins retiring Kevin Stevens number. Not at all. Steven was only an offensive player and only a really good one playing with Mario Lemieux. I looked it up just because I'm bored right now. He had 251 goals and 527 points in 450 games with lemieux with a plus/minus of minus 27. Yet in 347 games without Lemieux he only had 78 goals, 199 points, and a -73 and a minus 100 for his career. Graves rarely had the talent Stevens had to play with in his career yet he was only a minus 25 in almost 300 more games. And he killed penalties. And he hit people. And he fought plenty of people. And he scored a bunch of short handed goals. Stevens did none of that. No comparison whatsoever. |

Saw this article by somebody last year.
I forgot ex-ranger Avery, Pavel Bure, the list goes on and on. http://www.anecdotage.com/articles/ 11799/NHL-Diving-Championships Everybody dives, it's just that the Rangers are so exemplary in leading the league. The Flyers lead the league in maybe crosschecking and head shots, the Devils have in their short history led the league in hooking, especially now they are in Newark some more interesting hooking, the Penguins lead the league in fortunate linemates like Dan quinn or Rob Brown, which isn't bad. The Rangers are the Greg Louganis, lead the universe in diving team. |

Caufield didn't need to dive, he usually fell to the ice every shift on his own.

Do you know who Kevin Steven was? He didnt hit people or fight? I would say Stevens was a better hitter, and better fighter. In 93-94 Stevens put up 41 goals, 47 assist for 88 points. Mario played 22 games that year. Graves never put an 80 point season in his career.

Mario played 22 games that year. Graves never put an 80 point season in his career. I know exactly who Kevin Stevens was. I also know he was nothing without Mario Lemieux. I know he was barely a 40 point player without Mario on his team. I also know he spent 2 season playing on the same team as Graves and combined in those 2 seasons scored less goals then Graves scored in one. Ever heard of Bob Errey? He wasn't a good goal scorer yet scored 20 or more 4 or 5 times with Lemieux yet without him averaged about 5 goals a year. Lemieux made everybody look good, he was the Pens franchise. Before Lemieux they were awful, and right after Lemieux left not only were they awful but almost bankrupt. It took 2 or 3 number 1 overall picks including the lucky breaks and timing to draft Crosby and Malkin or there is no team in Pittsburgh today. |

Didn't Graves get to play with the 2nd leading scorer ever in the NHL and one of the highest scoring defenseman of all time? As well as the all time leading scorer ever in Gretzky for 3 seasons? Since you know exactly who Stevens was I'm sure you know drugs and breaking his face had an effect on the latter stage of his career.
