senators who are not bullies.As most of them are. Both Republicans and Democrats have acted similarly and taken a dump on cabinet nominees in the past.
McCain try to get Hagel to answer yes or no to a question and would not let Hagel speak unless he did. Hagel later explained that he called the Iraq war a very bad mistake that would affect us for years. McCain still believes that Iraq was a good war and anyone who disagrees should not be Sect of State.They knew Hagel wouldn't answer and back up his earlier comments. Thus the entire hearing was just about beating Hagel up a bit and a warning not to abandon our military commitments abroad or disrespect Israel (again, neither one would be his call anyway).
Session asked Hagel to name one senator who was influenced by the Israeli lobby. Answering that would be political suicide for any senator or dept head.
