Did the trash talk and ejections get Sapp in over Bettis? Sapp was good, but not a hall of famer...definitely not a first ballot guy...and i think coaches and owners and commissioner etc should have their own category, shouldn't take a spot away from a playe. ...

Really, what the hell did Sapp do, don't think he's really in the top of anything, all he did is win one SB. So besides him being just a good player he' s done really nothing. He won DPOY in 1999.

I'm pretty sure the Bus will get in but what about Kevin Greene? Third all-time in sacks (160) and he can't even make the Top 10? I don't understand it. If you pull up the all-time lists at every position every player ranked 3rd is even in the Hall of Fame or is a first ballot HOFer when their time comes (Tomlinson, Owens, Harrison). How can they continue to ignore how remarkable it is to record 160 sacks?

Strahan made the final 10 in his first year of eligibility. He has 20 less career sacks than Greene. Derrick Thomas got in with 126 sacks, Rickey Jackson 128. I just don't get it.

Thomas was at the time considered one of the best Linebackers of the time and  you have to facto in that his career was cut short by his death.  I think many would say had he played 5 more years (making him the same age as Green)  his sack totals would be more than Green.  

As for Rickey Jackson you are getting to caught up in sack totals and not looking at other numbers Jackson had 1173 tackles  to go along with his sacks.  That is 500 more tackles than Green is credited with.  Also it is worth noting that when Jackson retired there would have been only 2 guys ahead of him in sacks and those two are Reggie white and LT.  

Dont get me wrong I think Green should be in the hall of fame based on his sack numbers and he may get there in time Im just pointing out why those 2 (Jackson and Thomas) are in with what you consider inferior sack numbers.


Couple of things could be hurting Bettis.  One and this sucks but it has been mentioned before is the number of Steelers in the HOF already (this is proabbly the number one reason Donnie Shell is not in) and Two during his Career he was never considered the It back.  You know that guy that automatically leaps to the top of the list when you talk about running backs in a given era.  I know I know Martin isnt exactly on that list either but one thing that helped Matrin was cracking the top 10 in Yards from Scrimage.  He currently ranks 8th and at the time of his retirement would have been 7th I belive. Bettis will get in its only a matter of time.  In fact next year may be his year.

Warren Sapp was a good player at DT, but nowhere near some of the other first ballot DL in Canton. Think he is anywhere near Randy Joe Greene, Reggie White.. no way. His first ballot HOF induction is a steaming pile of Dinosaour Excrement.  What is this a new rule, if you get a job at nfl network, it boosts your stock????? Curly Culp is a heckuva lot less deserving than Jerry Kramer, if you have to elect one old phart per year.

I agree Bettis will get in, the voters are looking at highlight films, and forgetting to take into account a full body of work, they are looking at Adrian Peterson types of backs.  Cris Carter deserved to be a first ballot HOFer moreso than Sapp, that guy had some of the best hands I ever snatch balls out of the air.

Ding ding.  Greene was never thought of (and rightly so) as an intimidating rush defender that could also hold the edge or take over games.  There was another guy on the other side that did that, but his career was cut short by injuries.
