He's just rightly calling out Elijah Johnson. We'll see how EJ responds. I can see why Self was going after Marcus Smart so hard on the recruiting trail. It makes me drool to imagine this KU squad with him at PG.

Maybe he can get one before the trade deadline.

Well, twocoach says its a call out for Elijah Johnson, and that's probably true. However, since strategy is the domain of the head coach, its just as much a "Self call out".
Can he and his coaching staff come up with a scheme which minimizes this Point Guard weakness with other team strengths. After all it was said all season in 2010 that Duke had no PG either. The media and message board posters made a big deal of the fact that Jon Scheyer was a converted Shooting Guard playing out of position. Coack K kept insisting in interviews that Scheyer was simply "a Guard", not a SG, and not a PG. Yet Scheyer did play the point on the 2010 NCAA Men's D1 championship team. KU has lots of strengths, and has 7 weeks left to armor this weakness, one way or another. |

Yes you do, his name is Naadir Tharpe. You refuse to let him start and you bench him at the first missed shot. meanwhile EJ can turn the ball over all game and continue to get the benefit of the doubt. This is how KU will lose in the sweet 16 if Self doesn't wake up (or stop being stubborn).

You are aware that Tharpe is shooting about 26% (and only 23% from 3) with 11 assists and 11 turnovers in Big 12 play, right? I know Tharpe had a nice stretch back in December when everyone else was also playing well, but he has taken a HUGE step backward in the last three weeks. Tharpe played 10 minutes in the first half against Okie State and KU was a -12 with him on the floor in those 10 minutes. He has only had one good game since conference play began and that was against Texas. [http://statsheet.com/mcb/players/pl ayer/kansas/naadir-tharpe/plus_minu s] |
