Welcome to New Orleans for Super Bowl 184February 4, 2013 5:15 pm
And tha'ts great that people want to knock Smith down a peg because he played behind a great line.
Let me know when you start knocking Montana back a peg because he played with the best WR of all time... ---- If you watched barry sanders run, and watched emmit smith run, you were never left with a debate on which guy was more talented.... Sanders chose not to stick with a mediocre team and compile his way to Payton's record. Emmitt did.... Smith was never once the best RB in the NFL durring his career....pretty tough to later claim he's the best of all time.... |

Dude, now you're just being ridiculous... --- He played against barry until 1998, and by then wasn't in his prime anymore... Sorry...Barry was better...give him emmit's line and he's prbably alone in the 20k club....give emmit his line, and he's probably not HOF worthy.... |

Emmitt wasn't some late draft pick that blossomed because of an offensive line. He is still one of the best RBs of all-time skill sets alone. |

--- I said top 10 all time....that's pretty strong praise dude.... Is this going to turn into a "you didn't call him the greatest, you're basing him!!" rants? |

I said top 10 all time....that's pretty strong praise dude.... For someone that seems to remember all the dumb things I have said, you sure have a terrible short-term memory. Try to stick with the words I write down. Imply nothing, that is the part you are bad at. |

Because Emmitt Smith played with a good line, you're basically putting him behind every RB who ever played that has even a remotely approachable resume.
---- no..he played behind the greatest O-line in league history...it wasn't just a good line...lot's of RB's have had good lines...none the likes of that dallas dynasty... But I'm still saying he's a guy that's a top 10 all time back... And to be honest, when it comes to sayers, brown and OJ, that's more by reputation....literally only 4-5 guys I've seen better at the position. Top ten? Emmitt Smith? That's just... ---- Reality with all things considered...look at VP's numbers on Faulk... Add Tomlinson from 03-07, 2050 total yards and 21 TD's a season. tell me you're taking what Smith did over that.....please...so I can call you completely full of shit****... |

Add Tomlinson from 03-07, 2050 total yards and 21 TD's a season. I would even argue AP's last 5 years, when you factor in that no RB in history (at least among the ones worth talking about) have played with as much garbage around him as AP - 1750 yards from scrimmage, 14 TD's, 5 YPC Want to guess what AP's numbers would've been if he played with hall of famers on his O-Line at QB and at WR? |

------ Almost ready to put him in this debate...1-2 years tops |

It's going to take a career ender really soon for me not to put AP above Emmitt And if he's proven anything over the last year, it's that it is going to be really hard to knock this guy out for good week 5 of his 7th season - that's the likely time he becomes the active leader in touchdowns |

Too bad Snoogins isn't around for this. This would've been good an hour ago:
Emmit Smith's average over 5 years - 1948 yards from scrimmage, 18 TD's, 4.5 YPC Shaun Alexander's average over 5 years - 1770 yards from scrimmage, 20 TD's, 4.5 YPC "Let me know when any running back in history has done anything even remotely in the same universe as Emmitt over those 5 years" So far we have 3 running backs just from the past 15 years or so. And it's not even including what AP has done which is arguably more impressive than all of them |

Shaun Alexander's average over 5 years - 1770 yards from scrimmage, 20 TD's, 4.5 YPC During that span the Seahawks had the BEST left side in the game. That left side was downright nasty and I bet you they ran to that side 75% of the time. The other portion of their line was pretty sick. AP has been blessed with a damn good running line as well. Still think AP will end up higher than Emmitt before my words get twisted yet again. |

AP has been blessed with a damn good running line as well. Snoogins whole point was that lines should be disregarded i.e. that Smith's 5 year run had numbers so far and away better than everybody else that even if it was somewhat inflated by the great line, he's still the best ever Alexander did have a super line, but no better than what Emmitt had in his prime, probably a drop off. And with all due respect to the 2 of them, Hassellbeck to Darrell Jackson ain't exactly Aikman to Irvin If we want to take into account extenuating circumstances beyond a RB's control? Then I would say that AP's last 5 years are more impressive No player in football is as much a focal point of opposing defenses as much as AP is to any defense taking the field against the Vikings.... maybe in history. Right now, the only other player in football who even remotely touches "I don't even care who else is on the field, just try to stop him" territory is Megatron. |

LOL, even Priest Holmes, when you have to count 1 or 2 garbage years as part of it.... has a 5 year stretch not too far off from Emmitt's best 5 year stretch
Holmes average - 1691 yards from scrimmage, 16 TD's, 4.7 YPC And that's with 1 of the 5 years being garbage |
