i was just looking at the Franzen/Perron incident and i really don't see why that's a match penalty. He slammed his stick into a guy with a nice old-fashioned spearing. I don't think it gets much clearer for a match penalty. He deliberately used his stick as a weapon, it's usually frowned upon. Mule should have kicked him instead. I don't blame Mule for getting ticked off, but he's supposed to throw his gloves and stick down and start pummeling him instead. the NHL is getting soft.We passed the weaponized stick era, I don't want to see it again. Bertuzzi needs to teach Mule how to fight. |

as much as I love the fights the stick work crap is garbage, and anyone who uses it to spear or hurt someone is a pansy. wait until my man Don Cherry gets a hold of this. hes gonna light up Franzen on Coaches Corner and rightfully so. the Mule is a big boy but hes Swedish and doesnt fight and I guess in Sweden thats how they handle confrontation - pretty chickens&%t if you ask me Bertuzzi needs to teach Mule how to fight. how sad is it that your only legitimate enforcer is a 39 year old - thanks again Holland. not saying that wouldnt have happened anyways but if Parros was on the bench I think Perron wouldve atleast gave it a second thought just like all the players who continually take liberties with the Wings players |

There are a lot of players his size in the league who would have made Perron regret that hit from behind about 2 seconds after it happened. Guys who are that size and who can fight would have pounded the crap out of Perron on the spot. Franzen has about 3 inches and 20 pounds on Perron too.... but it doesn't matter because Franzen can't fight anyway. What REALLY BUGGED ME is what happened after the Franzen spear though. Look at the video carefully. You'll see a Blues player go right at Franzen and number 23 Lashoff from Detroit behind him with his stick in his hand pretending to try and pull the guy away from Franzen. Didn't drop his stick, didn't do sh**. On the other side if you pay attention you'll see Ericsson put his arm around a Blue's players neck and rip him away from Franzen.... THAT'S HOW IT'S DONE !!! I don't like the stupid crap after a play, it drives me nuts. But if a team is going after your player, whether your player deserves it or not you have to defend him. And the Wings really suck at defending people. |

Wow, Ellerby traded from Panthers for a 5th rounder.
He was a first rounder in 2007. He's not a good offensive player or skater but he may develop into a very solid stay at home type on the bottom pair and pk. I think a 5th rounder is a terrible underpayment to the Panthers. I think this is one of those screw ups I was expecting by Tallon. With so many teams needing defensive help, I really don't get this. Even with Gubranson's injury, he still could have signed a low end veteran and probably landed a much better return over the summer. Ellerby is a legitimate 6 or 7 dman, 8 at worst on almost every roster in the league imo. Tallon signed 7 dmen on 1 way contracts and has Caruso on RFA status at the end of the year too. I guess he picked Caruso over Ellerby. He was going to lose one on waivers. Way to waste assets Dale, you only knew since last summer this was going to happen. I may be wrong about Ellerby hanging around as a 5-8 on rosters for a few years (which is worth more than a 5th), but I don't think I'm wrong in my assessment that Tallon screwed up putting his 50 contracts together. This was bad asset management and the reason I bash him so often. Maybe I'll eat some crow later, Dale did put together a 38 win division winner last year. He had plenty of roster slots open for signings next year, so it's not as if he needed the space. |

This was bad asset management and the reason I bash him so often Yeah, that isn't much to give up for a big dman who can play some hockey. No, he's not a superstar and never will be but as you pointed out he's anywhere from a 5 to 8 dman on all of today's NHL teams. And in my opinion on most he's probably closer to somewhere between 5 and 7 and if healthy in the bottom pair 80 percent of the time. Thank God Holland didn't go after him though. Whewwwwww. That would mean Lashoff or Kindl or Colaiacovo might lose a roster spot. With studs like that holding onto a 5th rounder is a great idea. And he's way too big and maybe a little too physical to play on the Wings D. We like to finesse people out from in front of the net in Detroit. |

I don't think he would be worth much on Detroit since he can't pass. Most teams in the West could have used him though.

I should clarify, he can pass, he just does it very poorly.

I was being a little sarcastic but even though he doesn't move the puck out like the Wings prefer dmen can, I still think as a number 7 option he's worth a 5th round pick for anybody and certainly a better option then what's going to happen to Detroit if there are any more injuries. Short of rushing a couple young dman prospects that are in the minors Detroit has few options on the back end.
Then again I guess it really doesn't matter. What it comes down to for Detroit this year is scoring goals. As long as the top 2 lines stay completely healthy and the 3rd and 4th lines occasionally do something they'll win enough games to keep people interested. But the real question is what happens if Detroit suffers a couple injuries to their top 6? If so in my opinion it's see you later 2013 season. |

Probably would have been able to flip him for a 4th at least when all the ponies are healthy. For a 5th, he would have been worth it. |

you guys are right, Franzen is soft and a big squishy wuss. i stand corrected. he should've pummelled Perron, or at least tried.

Halo normally I hate the after the play crap and waste of time pushing and shoving. But if a guy stares straight at the number of your back and proceeds to hit you into the boards face first you go after that guy. Win or lose, its gotta be done.
Last year Weber pulled a WWE move on a Wings player trying to smash his face into the boards yet only one player stood up to him, I think it was Bertuzzi. Weber should have paid for that move couple more times then that. |

This is from mynhltraderumors.com about 3 weeks ago.
[] [Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press]: The Red Wings aren’t interested in Wade Redden, but could look at Maple Leafs defenseman Cody Franson. St. James thinks that Franson could be had for a 3rd or 4th round draft pick. Why would the Leafs give up Cody Franson for a 3rd or 4th round draft pick? And if so, why on earth would the Wings even hesitate? |

Nice work Killer, I didn't recall that one.
Mule the Swashbuckler? He needs the name of a swordsman. What was that sci-fi movie where you cut the guys head off and get all his power, mid-80s,? I can't remember the name, Sean Connery was in it. There must be a good character name in there for Mule. |

Yeah. I don't know if he connected by he tried to spear him. The player he tried to spear is an idiot though. He grabbed onto Franzen at the bench and wouldn't let him skate away. I forgive Franzen for this one because he didn't even have the option to fight him. Not that he would have fought him but the only option he had was the stick or nothing.

Cutter, "the Last Gladiators" is out on some cable providers now. You better be watching it this weekend. There's nothing you need to do that can't be put off for another week or more.

what is the last gladiators and why would it interest me? is it goons from the 80's and 90's making it happen? Tallon is more of an idiot than I thought- a 5th really! and just when I thought a 1st for Quincey wouldnt be topped...... |
