2013 offseason

I just read somewhere that DJ Williams is set to make 6 million next year.  How much of that can we get if we dumped his drunk ass?
If I'm reading this right, if DJ is released he would account for about $2 MM of dead money for 2013.  The $6 MM base salary wouldn't count, and he would only contribute dead money for this season.

The Broncos would save $6 million in salary cap space by releasing LB D.J. Williams. It's the same number as his $6M base salary. Williams served two NFL suspensions in 2012, appearing in only seven games and starting just one. We'd look for the Broncos to cut ties with Williams as soon as this week. Feb 10 - 6:04 PMSource: [Denver Post]

I hope they get rid of him.  Save the money and fill his roster spot with someone that can actually avoid drinking and driving.

I am really excited to see what Elway has up his sleeve for this offseason.  Do we pick up some bigger name FAs?  Who do we draft?

I might go nuts.

When you take a look at DJ Williams, it speaks volumes about how much better the Broncos have gotten.  A few years back he was one of our top 3 defensive players.  Now, he isnt even a starter.  He will likely be gone shortly.  I wouldnt be surprised if they ask Joe Mays to take a bit of a pay cut as well, he is making $4 million, I would think it will be dropped to $2-2.5.

I wouldn't be surprised if they jettisoned Mays as well as Williams.  Mays lost his job to a 37 year old MLB past his prime.  They probably have a better shot at keeping Brooking and drafting/signing a MLB (probably draft).

The more I think about it, the more I think Denver's FA period will be fairly quiet.  Probably will be more for value than for splash.  Still, there's some good value players out there.
