This is true, so why do we need to hear about Ray Lewis' born again status or that Ben Roethlisberger got married or that Jay Cutler proposed to his fiancee or that Tiger Woods cheated and then became buhddist? 

We don't, but we do hear about it. Why? because for some reason the american public likes to know more about athletes than just what they do on the field. Unless they are gay. In that case, "keep that ish to yourself because it makes me queasy." Screw that.

I find it funny that those who think they are "open minded" really aren't. They have no problem throwing insults like don't reproduce at folks who don't see it their way. Assuming what you say is true as to how Jefferson (or any other founding father) felt about homosexuals, then his opinion was indeed ignorant, and on the wrong side of history. And, it's ironic that his own tenets would be used to create equality in areas where he thought it couldn't exist.

Again those people decide to allow the media to release said info and they don't like the reaction don't cry foul. Now I'm let you in on a little in sight here. One I have no problem with homosexuals. Two I have been a business owner here in the bay area since 02. Three 7 years ago my business struggled like many others in the U.S. I happened to do a job for a gay couple work did advertising in a homosexual mag and asked if I would be willing to advertise there. Because the community is always looking for unbiased companies. Today probably 60% of my business is through their mag. Im not homophobic, I don't hate homosexuals, frankly I don't give a rats arse. That said you and people like you do nothing for any bodies cause but make it worse. Your high and mighty all knowing stance s nothing more than ignorance and bigotry. Sad thing is you realize it and justify it because people don't see it your way, that's comical.

I'll add my two cents:


As a Christian I believe that homosexuality is a sin.  I would have a moral obligation to share the Gospel with my teammate.  Having a gay teammate in the locker room would make me uncomfortable, and I am fully aware that me informing my teammate of the sinful nature of homosexuality would probably make him feel uncomfortable as well.


With that said there is no "right" to not feel uncomfortable....my feeling uncomfortable about his homosexuality is irrelevant just like his feeling uncomfortable about about my proselytizing.  Playing in the NFL is just like any other job....being professional in the work place is part of the job description.  It wouldn't change the purpose of what we are trying to accomplish and it wouldn't change my duty as a teammate.  Just because I don't agree with his lifestyle decision doesn't mean I punish or persecute him for it.

That said, I suppose you have some points regarding the "reaction to the reaction" and I am sure that this negative expectation is why an NFL player hasn't come out already. They should be willing to deal with the negativity, just as Jackie Robinson had to deal with the racists in the crowd and on the field when he had to play. People just weren't ready until they saw it. Now we don't blink an eye at black athletes, interracial marriage, and women voters. One day maybe we won't blink an eye at homosexuality. 

It will take a brave guy to do it, but it will get done. Then 50 years later people will wonder why it was ever an issue to begin with. They will have evolved as a society.

I disagree here, because sometimes people need a 2 x 4 upside their intellect to get the fact that the world is going to move forward, with or without them, and they will become dinosaurs if they stay in their old, worn out thinking. If you truly feel how you do toward homosexuals, then the ranting about equality really doesn't concern you, now does it? So you can just let us progressive types keep working on the dinosaur types, since you are pretty much ok with things as they are.
