The Bears would be best served by getting a top end free agent left tackle like Jake Long or Phil Loadholdt... Then draft best offensive lineman or tight end available in round 1.

We talk about Brian Urlachers replacement. What if hes already on the team? Not Shea McClellin but Lance Briggs. Slide Briggs to MLB and then draft a OLB in round 2. I am certain Briggs would like to step out of 54's shadow and have his chance to lead the defense.

Briggs himself has said multiple times that he does not want to do this and has no intentions of ever doing this.  I personally think if Briggs played next to Urlacher his entire career he would have absolutely no problem with that.  He is viewed as one of the best LB's in the game and the combination of the two of them has been beneficial to both.

By moving Briggs you may somewhat plug one hole but then leave another.  He is pro bowl caliber at his current LB position, no point in moving him because there is no replacement for him either.

All of that may be true but it is much easier to sign Nick Barnett and have him play OLB and have Briggs at MLB and Roach as OLB. I give 2 shytes about what Briggs says about playing MLB. He gets paid a ton of jack to play off the ball in coverage and not get sacks. Time for him to be a team player and step into a role until a more suitable replacement can be found if Urlacher departs.
