The Daily Top-25 with Analysis

UCONN fan, I NEVER said Connecticut was less deserving of being in the rankings! if you read closely, what I said was that the official voters did not give them a single vote last week, and that is a fact. On a positive note, if you keep reading my last comment you will also see that IMO that will definitely change this coming week. Although I believe that the victories over visiting Seton Hall and Syracuse alone will not be enough to get them up into the top-25 I do think they will be very very close. Losses by the teams just above them combined with a thumping of visiting Villanova would probably be enough to make the difference.

OK, thanks for the Clarifaction on UConn. Ohio State was ranked by the AP, but was prohibited from being ranked by the Coaches' and the BCS.

Oklahoma State then goes into Lubbock and destroys the Red Raiders, just enough to let the now #15 Cowboys switch positions with idle #16 Pitsburgh. New Mexico, Notre Dame, Memphis, Oregon and Colorado State all take care of businnes with unranked teams - no direct effect on the rankings. Finally, now # 25 Missouri´s destruction ¨as visitors¨ of hapless Mississippi State is probably just enough to let them enter the rankings, switching places with now #26 Minnesota and replacing them (at least temporarily) in the Top-25 for the final position (vacated by Kentucky the night before).
15 Feb - #4 Gonzaga´s resounding victory @ St Mary´s demonstrates why they indeed belong in the top-5 - no direct effect on the rankings. Arizona´s ¨away¨ loss to Colorado is the story of the night, after two losses in a row to unranked teams makes the Wildcats take a big fall, all the way down to #13 - while Kansas, Louisville, Syracuse, Ohio State and Georgetown each slide up one position to fill-in the hole. Louisville (over St Johns) and Ohio State (over Northwestern) take care of business at home with unranked opponents - no news here, no direct effect on the rankings. Wisconsin´s ¨away ¨ OT loss at the hands of Minnesota brings the Badgers crashing all the way down to the final spot, letting the Golden Gophers enter the rankings in the #24 position (Idle Missouri slips out and falls to #26) - Marquette, Notre Dame, Memphis, Oregon and Colorado State each take one step forward to occupy the hole left by Wisconsin.
16 Feb - Georgetown retains their #12 spot with a nice ¨away¨ victory over Cincinnati - no direct effect on the rankings.

The Jayhawks thorough ¨home¨ pounding of the Wildcats causes the teams to SWITCH positions in the rankings - Kansas rises to #10 while Kansas State drops first to #14 then to #15. The Hoyas close home victory over Marquette is just enough to move them up a single spot to trade places with ¨just demoted¨ (now #15) Kansas State - Georgetown ends the night at #14. Marquette falls 2 spots to #20 and #18 New Mexico and #19 Wisconsin each move up one spot to fill the void.
13 Feb - The Spartan´s spanking of the Wolverines causes another shakeup in the rankings - Michigan tumbles to #8, while Michigan State (and the rest of the teams previously ranked #5 to #8) move up 1 spot. The Gator´s home victory over Kentucky is nothing more than what was expected of them - no direct effect for Florida (although they move up a spot because of the loss by Michigan). In Kentucky´s case, the loss is just enough to knock them out of the #25 spot and end their 24-hour visit to the Top-25 rankings - For the moment, Minnesota (no thanks to any merit of themselves) moves into the #25 spot.
14 Feb - The #1 Hoosiers (over Nebraska) and #2 Blue Devils (over North Carolina) both win at home, but only Indiana does it in exemplary fashion - no effect on the rankings. The #3 Hurricanes get the ¨W¨ at Tallahasse, not in impressive manner but then again it´s another ¨away¨ victory and continues their impressive ACC domination - no effect on the rankings. One of the big stories of the night is the Orangemen´s loss at Connecticut which bumps Syracuse all the way down to #11 - while Michigan State, Michigan, Arizona, Kansas and Louisville all move up a spot to fill the void (the Cardinals actually move up 2 positions thanks to Butler´s loss). The biggest story today is the ¨at home¨ loss of Butler at the hands of unranked Charlotte, which is enough to bring the Bulldogs tumbling all the way down to #18 - letting Ohio State, Georgetown, Kansas State, Pitsburgh, Oklahoma State and New Mexico each move up one position.
