If USC had any other coach besides Lane Kiffin, I'd put them at the top of the list.

I am guessing Oregon is going to take a step back but I could be wrong.  Stanford has put together some great teams but they play the same ball as Bama, but Bama has better athletes.  I agree about USC.  Texas could but they may need Brown to step down to get back to where they could be.   We will see if all those top lineman can help scUM get over the hump.  Urban will not be able to out recruit Saban so if they play he will have to out coach him. I dont see any other teams stopping the SEC or having a chance.

The biggest threat to SEC dominance is the SEC teams knocking each other down the polls.  Ohio State, a team that has a very weak schedule next year could very easily be ranked number 1 at the end of the year very much the same as the earlier Boise St and BYU teams.  It should have happened last year as Alabama was very lucky to get into the NC game, thanks to K-State's demise.  There is a certain amount of luck getting into the NC game and playing a weak schedule increases the odds of getting there.  Doesn't do much good once there as we have seen some beat downs when one team shows up unprepared.

I think Louisville is going to win a NC either this fottball year or the following year.  Why.....because of Teddy Bridgewater and Charlie Strong and the recruits from the south snubbed by the SEC.   Charlie gets those guys and he takes a couple off the top on his own.

Look out SEC.  You let Charlie get away and he is the reason Urban has the NC's he has.

lol....please ellupo.  Don't be so damned sensitive.  He's a good coach...no doubt.   But don't act like Charlie Strong didn't win him games with that Florida defense either.

tOSU hasn't played anyone since he's been there.  The B10 was down last year.  Let's get him a major bowl win with tOSU before we crown Urban Coach of the Year.

I am not sensitive but to say Strong was the reason Urban won NC is a little over the top.  Urban did pretty well and BG and Utah and was smart enough to get good coordinators at FL.  Isnt there a possibility that Urban taught Strong some things?

Well, that's overstating things.  He was part of the reason, sure.  Strong was a great DC, no doubt, and they did a number on Ohio State in the BCS game.  (At least that's what I'm told, anyway.  The self medication started early that night and did not let up.)  But the offense was responsible for 370 yards and 34 pts in that game.   The 2005 D wan't a top 15 unit on the season, but they were better than the offense and they did wreck that game, but the offense did its part, too.

In the 2009 game against Oklahoma, the Gator D only gave up 14 ponts, but surrendered 360 yards while the offense racked up 480.  In the 2008 season vs. ranked opponents (LSU, UGA, SC, FSU, Bama, and Okie) the offense averaged 42.6 ppg and 451 ypg.   Three of those schools ended the year in the final top 15 ranking.  They put up 30 points or more on all 5 of the teams in the top 30 in total defense they played.  So the D didn't exactly drag the offense along to a championship here.

Over the top?  Maybe a little....no more than the tOSU fans crowing they have the best coach in D1.  He was one piece of a puzzle.

But no matter....the thread was about who/what was in the way of another SEC title.  I threw out Louisville.

I liked antler spray.....berr and jugs....the NCAA.....all funny responses.  I'm sorry I stuck with a team and didn't say something like higher SAT's.

The biggest threat is the word dominance itself.

Even if we look at just the last 7 years of "SEC dominance", the SEC is only winnning 60% (104-69) of its games against fellow AQ conference competition, and has a losing record to the soon to be defunct Big East.  If we include all of Missouri and Texas A&M's games against their old Big 12 rivals, then that number dips to 58% (161-114).

Now, if we want to talk about the SEC's current superiority, then I would say NCAA sanctions and coaching turnover would be the biggest threat to SEC superiority.
