Atlanta Hawks Venting Room!

You have to look at the big picture.  The Hawks are not going to resign Josh Smith...atleast def not at the maximum.  So you either let him walk and get nothing in return or at the VERY LEAST you get expiring contracts and ATLEAST a guy who can contribute next year for this team...the Hawks need alot of pieces next year and they are not winning a title this year so you might as well start chipping away at next year's roster.  You then take that money that Smith would of been payed and you invest it in free agency and build this team right.  Horford needs to go to the 4..the Hawks were built with some pieces but they didn't go together...Ferry hit the reset button with a couple of big thank u's to the Nets and Jazz for taking Johnson and Williams money off the books....which also leaves the Hawks still with the amnesty clause.  I truly believe Horford can be a 20 and 10 guy...if he is given the looks at the PF position which will enable him to post up more...he already has a nice mid range jumper.  Horford is being payed good money and honestly his numbers don't reflect what he should get payed...which is less than he is making now...but move him to the 4 and max his potential out.

Lost in all of Josh Smith highlight dunks and blocked shots is INCONSISTENCY...and he has hit his ceiling.  His numbers are down across the board.  Josh Smith...nice player...but not a building block for this team in the big picture of things.  Agree to disagree.

I think the Hawks are trying to trade josh because they know he does'nt want to be here. Josh has wanted to leave for the past two years or so. So instead of just letting him walk, they are trying to get something for him. I think ferry would keep josh if he could, but josh wants the max. Josh is  a hell of a player but not worth the max.

Now i agree that we will miss his defensive presense something awful. but on the offensive end he tries to play more like a two guard, jacking up way to many three's and 20 feet jumpers when he should be posting up more. I always thought josh could become a poorman lebron if he let the game come to him and not force the issue.  Maybe he still can, a change of scenery might help.

But i will say this, if he keeps playing like he has played the past two games, then show him the MONEY.

I say if he keeps playing the way he has the last 2 games...you deal him...his play in the last 2 games can only help his value especially when it coincidentally came against 2 teams that are rumored to be making a play for him.  Don't get sucked in by a couple of games...he has a large body of work to look at...he has done this his entire career.  Looked good for a spurt and plays like a rookie at other times.  His improvement leveled off and like you said...he jacks up way too many long distance jumpers.  He has complained about making all star teams the last 2 years...but yet has shown no improvement in his game to get him over the hump.  This year...his numbers are not getting better...they are down across the board.  He peaked seasons ago...hit his ceiling.  In the end...good player...solid player...but not a max dollar player.  Let's not go down the Joe Johnson road again.

I don't believe he can substain that type of play either. Another disturbing trend that i have noticed about his game is that he puts up those huge numbers, usually, against weak competion. But when he plays against the elite teams he struggles alot. The Hawks play the Heat i think WED. It will be interesting to see how josh performs. He had off games against the heat the past two times he's played them. So he's do for a big game against them.

It's now being reported that the Bucks have jumped in the j-smooth sweepstakes. The report was saying that the bucks are willing to depart with Monta Ellis, who's contract is also expiring and one of their big men, someone like dalembert or john hensen. The report also said the Nets might make it a three team deal as they are looking to acquire Ersan Ilyasova.

Anyway i think the bucks can make us a better offer than brooklyn. Monta ellis starts and lou can give us his sixth man heriocs. Dalembert would finally give us a dominate defensive  center, as you can see when given minutes, he's a baller. I also like john though he's younger and has more upside than dalembert, he also will average 18 and ten with minutes.

This trade talk becomes more and more exciting each day as the deadline draws near. I hope ferry really chops it up with the bucks, as i think we would get more for our bang with them.  What do you think Rock and streetcar?

Monta Ellis are you serious, he sucks, he shooting percentage is way worse than Josh Smith. He shoots 40% and 23% from the 3 point line. Horrible. The reason why Golden State is doing so well; is because they got rid of his garbage a**. Josh Smith is the best player on the team, ask his head coach. He does everything on the floor, hes allowed to take jumpers. He needs to work on getting to the line more often and having a better free throw %. J Smooth is shooting 35% from the 3 point line which is great. Anything over 33% equates to the equilavent of shooting better than 50% from inside the arc. You guys don't understand how much more he contributes to the team besides raw stats. Rebounds, Points, steals, blocks and etc. If they trade Josh Smith for Monta Ellis. Monta Ellis by the way is due 11 million next year. I rather pay Josh Smith his 17 million, than to give Monta Ellis 11 million. Danny Ferry will absolutely get some hate mail if he pulls that one off. Josh Smith doesnt get his accolades he deserves because he needs to get to the free throw line more often. I really believe you can build around Josh Smith. You bring in another caliber playerwho has a similar Rapm (regularized plus minus adjusted ratio) to Josh and you will be a contender. You get rid of Josh, you will have to bring in two guys to become one of the top teams in the East.  The rest of the Hawks players are role players, bottom line! There are much more important aspects of the game besides raw stats. If you play 35 mpg, you better be doing something.

Honestly I rather gamble and get nothing in return; then for them garbage a** players, that are being mentioned. Monta Ellis (11 million), Marcin Grotat (7.2 million), Kris Humphreys (12 million), MarShon Brooks (cheap), should not be mentioned in the same sentence as Josh Smith, period. You guys are delusional. And you said Hortford is a great deal, he gets paid 12 million a year. If you dont think Josh Smith deserves more than Al Hortford; you are delusional and just pure dumb. If Al Hortford is getting 12 Million, Josh Smith atleast deserves 15 million, smh. And if Chris Humprheys gets 12 million, Josh Smith deserves 24 million. That is probably one of the worst contracts in the NBA. He is stealing money! If Josh Smith would get to the line even remotely close to that of Lebron, I guareentee you, he would be an all-star. He gets foulded a lot and doesnt get many of the calls he deserves. I believe, he deserves it(making the all star team) over Jrue Holiday(losing team), Kyrie Irving(losing team), Luol Deng(inferior player), Paul George(poor mans Josh Smith), Chris Bosh(Rapm no where in the same ball park as Josh). THe coaches in the NBA are just haters; all of them refuse to vote for Josh Smith so they can potentially have him for themselves at a bargain price. And if Ferry falls for it, hes as dumb as he looks.

Horford is in absolute beast mode right now.  Knew he could be a 20-10 guy...now he needs to sustain it.  Would like more touches...he isn't jacking the ball up...just being very efficient and hitting the boards like he is on a mission.

I'am disappointed at the way the season has gone. The Hawks started out strong and gave me false hope, but even so, i'am shocked at the 180 they have done. It looks like they are just going through the motions, they don't seem to have that drive and fire they had earlier in the year.

Hopefully they can get their swag back before the playoffs, or it's gonna be a short series for them.
