Shop Romo only if your going to make improvements in other areas of the team.I would`nt shop Romo though if it means just running him out of Dallas for no real reason.QB`s in themselves are hard to replace.Romo himself has to many positives.More often then not he helps keep the Cowboys in the game.He carried a lot of weight on his shoulders in the Redskin game trying to overcome a slew of crippling injuries.I would`nt just give him away.Make sure you get good draft picks in return and do it before he gets to old.I would let him play the one last year of his contract before I make a move.

Should Dallas Shop Romo?February 17, 2013 11:27 am
Gentlemen, do you realize that Tony Romo owns FOUR Cowboys CAREER passing records, and SEVEN Cowboys season passing records. He's the only QB in Dallas history to throw for over 4,000 yards in a season (done it FOUR times), and the only QB in franchise history to average 300 yards passing per game in a season (306.4 in 2012).
Why is it so difficult for a lot of you to understand that Tony Romo is the only reason that the Cowboys have been so competitive the last few years, especially last season. Remember how Romo had to run for his life every pass play, and still threw for 4,903 yards. Give Romo an upgraded o-line next season so he has some semblance of a running game, and an improved defense, and the Cowboys have a real shot at getting to the Super Bowl next season. Trade him and start Orton, and another 8-8 record would be an incredible accomplishment. So in summary, unless the Cowboys get a Herschel Walker type bounty of picks for Romo, they keep him. End of Story. |

All the more reason to trade him....if the rest of the team is so bad that only the heroics of Romo can get them to a .500 record then the plan should be to rebuild around a young QB. Give Romo an upgraded o-line next season so he has some semblance of a running game, and an improved defense, and the Cowboys have a real shot at getting to the Super Bowl next season. I don't get how you can say that Romo is the only reason they are able to even be a .500 team and then in the next paragraph say that Dallas could be a super bowl team next season with just a few improvements. 1. Dallas has no money to go out in free agency and upgrade their line. 2. Bringing in a rookie, even a 1st-2nd round pick, isn't going to improve the line that much more than what we had last season. 3. The running game might improve with greater continuity along the line, but it is not going to improve that much....best case scenario is finishing in the middle of the pack in rushing, which is not enough support for Romo. Same goes for pass protection: it will not be that much better than last season. 4. I do think the defense will be better. Trade him and start Orton, and another 8-8 record would be an incredible accomplishment. There is no difference between 8-8 and 5-11: in both scenarios you miss the playoffs. If Dallas can get a high pick or two from another team for trading Romo they get themselves out of salary cap hell, have more picks to build a team for the future, and are free to go out in free agency and be more aggressive, improving multiple areas of the team. Orton or whoever is starting would be asked to just manage the game, something that Romo has shown he cannot do, and hopefully they would be competative next season, but this would a more long-term appraoch than what is in place now. If they can't get those high picks for him though then don't make the trade. |

.Romo threw for 4900 yards despite a lousy OL.Imagine what he could do with good pass protection.Maybe Orton, but the Cowboys would have to be solid on both sides of the ball. That is something they have`nt shown. If I`m going to let Romo go I want something better then Orton though.

If it will help the team out in the long run, yes. Sometimes you have to suffer a little to get younger/better. It can't be much worse than the last three seasons. Young QB's are coming in the league and playing well now. But, the focus has to be on the offensive and defensive lines. Solidify those with those picks you would get.

If trading him makes the team better than I'm all for it; right now I don't think getting Romo will make us better.
