Do you guys have a top 3 wish list for the Steelers first round pick?  Or is it too hard this year to predict who will be drafted ahead of us.

Been reading some intell on Lattimore...  IF (big if) he clears medically - he may go early - mid round 2..  could he sneak in the back of Round 1?  let's see the medicals on him first.  If he hadn't got hurt - clearing the top RB in this draft class....

I will be moving him up the RB board on my next posting... - probably after the combine.

After the combine we can do that throw names by round exercise again. That is how we started our big board. Stock down on Allen, seems like there is no clear cut #1 WR in this draft. Guys I like: Patterson, Patton, King

Steelers Depot has a nice video up of one of the many small school players not invited to the combine..  Southern Illinois - OLB Jayson DiManche.  Good stuff - go look at the video..  Late round - undrafted player - great value - kid is quick - there is some tape at the end of him playing ST....

I wonder if the Steelers sign Steve Breaston, would fit perfectly in what Haley does. Makes the first 3 rounds open for other targets. Pittsuburgh still needs a LG, not discouting Foster, Legursky, Beachum, but everyone else is a first or second rounder on that projected OL. Wink

Steelers Depot really gives you crap as to WR rankings, cut and paste from draftscout, draftek, Walter, and God help us ESPN.  If you can dig and find it, Gil Brandt on nfl.com will give you a different look. I will be taping the combine. MIke Mayock doesn't always get them right, but he is a former player and much better at evuating the combine than either one of the Nuss brothers.

Asuming they sign a vet WR, keep Cotchery, although with the 1M cap hit, I dunno.. here is my mocking fess.

1. Kenny Vaccaro S
2. Kevin Minter ILB
3. Justin Hunter WR
4. Devin Taylor DE
5. Christine Michael RB
6.a. Michael Williams TE
6 b. Zac Dysert QB
7. David Bass OLB
U. Spencer Nealy DE
U. Earl Wolff SS
U. Moe Lee CB
U. Gilbert Pena NT

If they do not retain Keenan Lewis, obviously I would change my mock to Jordan Poyer in round two.  Then look at ILB later on, perhaps Kevin Riddick in the middle rounds.  I am convinced that Devin Taylor will be a steal if he does not go by the end of the third round. Earl Wolff hits like a truck, reminds me of Ryan Clark.  Minter may go end of the first round with Te'o and Ogletree falling like Enron Stock.  I wanted Brandon Williams in this mock, but could not pass on Devin Taylor or Justin Hunter, too much talent from the SEC.  Mike Williams being a combine snub is a good thing, he proved in the Senior Bowl he can catch, but his inline blocking will really help the Steelers run the ball down people's throats. I like Lattimore but where he goes, I have no clue right now, he is a big risk/reward. If Harrison is gone, then Jarvis Jones, if his spine checks out, is a no-brainer at 17.  Vacarro is a safe pick, and I think Warmack and Ansah are gone by pick 13.

too bad CBS/draftscout is so lucking fazy, they could easily do what draftek does and put a plus or minus number next to their updated rankings so we could view the changes.  That riser and faller portion on this site mucks soose, Bugphuccer is asleep at the wheel.

Nyb,

I really don't think Minter falls out of the 1st round especially to us in the middle of the 2nd round. Too many teams need ILB's Chicago, Buffalo, Baltimore, Pitt........just to name a few.

I would take that draft in a heartbeat, even the 1st 2 UDFA's

I noticed that Kawaan Short has a hamstring injury and will not be doing drills at the combine.

More info on Allen:

Cal wide receiver Keenan Allen is still recovering from a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will not work out at the Scouting Combine.

Agent J.T. Johnson told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Allen will attend the Combine and go through medical exams. But Allen is only about 70 percent healed from the injury he suffered during the 2012 season, and so he’s going to wait until April to run a 40-yard dash for NFL teams.

Allen won’t need surgery, but he did aggravate the injury while working out two weeks ago, and as a result he needs to slow down his recovery. Allen does expect to be in good enough shape to run some routes at Cal’s Pro Day on March 14, but he won’t be at full speed by that point.

Hey guys just wanted to share more pre-combine info on players one of the players mentioned happens to be NYB's 3rd round selection for us in his latest little mock.

- Word is Justin Hunter/WR/Tennessee has shown freakish athleticism in combine training and is getting rave reviews.  He’s expected to test great this coming Sunday.

- Another pass catcher who’s getting a lot of love is Vance McDonald/TE/Rice.  The quarterback’s at the IMG facility in Bradenton, Florida where McDonald is preparing for the combine have spoken highly of his skills.

- Its ironic but everyone we’ve spoken to say Tyler Eifert/TE/Notre Dame has not looked anything special during training.  That said most expect Eifert to run in the low 4.6-range at the combine and could break into the upper 4.5’s.

- Eifert’s Notre Dame teammate Manti Te’o is really not expected to test all that well on Monday, which should come as no surprise.

- I’m told Bjoern Werner/DE/Florida State has not looked like a super athlete in training the past few weeks and many are not expecting a great workout at the combine from the Seminoles pass rusher.  That does not surprise me.  On film Werner does not display great speed in pursuit and is more of a short (10-yard) burst defender.  Its part of the reason why I never considered Werner to be 3-4 outside linebacker material.

- Despite the fact DeAndre Hopkins/WR/Clemson has looked terrific catching the ball he’s unlikely to break the 4.5-second barrier on Sunday and won’t be graded as a first round pick.

- I’ve been a bit miffed by the lack of talk surrounding Logan Ryan/CB/Rutgers.  He’s been ranked as one of my top cornerbacks all season.  I’m told there is concern about his speed and Ryan’s forty time next Tuesday is important.  Sources close to the situation tell me Ryan will run in the 4.5-area but will turn in some of the fastest shuttle times of any defensive back.  Right now we hear teams grade the Rutgers junior as a 2nd/3rd round pick.

Blidi Wreh-Wilson/CB/UConn is all over draft boards.  Some teams have him ranked as a potential late 1st round choice while others as a mid-3rd round selection.

I'm telling you guys don't sleep on this Vance McDonald kid, he could've just had jitters during that week, it was after all one of the biggest weeks of his life.
